This is a short segment, but it's thought provoking. Thanks for the clarification on the six conditions of Person-centered counseling. It's a good reminder. I can see how the three core conditions: congruence (genuineness), accurate empathy, unconditional positive regard are used across other modalities. It was slightly difficult to recall the other conditions: psychological contact (awareness), incongruity or vulnerability with the client, understanding or receptivity to empathy. I like that you point out that these conditions are considered necessary for change with Person-centered counseling. When considering accurate empathy, thoughts that surface are that in Psychoanalysis empathy is considered neutral and Gestalt Therapy distinguishes confluence from empathy. These differences lend credence to my understanding regarding listening skills where empathy is classified as subtractive, neutral or additive.

Its infuriating, I am going through a social work program right now and people treat this concept as if its the holy grail. I like trauma based approaches, but they are horribly flawed as well. I find the further and further I go the more I run into people trying to create a blanket treatment method that can be applied to all rather then tailoring treatment to the specific needs of an individual. *rant. Thank you for the video though, it answered a few questions for me.
