  • www.bradydrums.com.au/walkabou... - The Walkabout Series is the personal project of Brady Drum Company founder, Chris Brady. Chris travels deep into the remote deserts and forests of Australia to hand select small amounts of rare, indigenous timber species' previously never seen in the drum industry which are then handcrafted into limited editions, rarities and one-of-a-kind snare drums.
The Australian continent has a land mass of 7.6 million square kilometers (almost 3 million square miles) and has diverse growth environments and climates. These "walkabout" excursions allow Chris to hand-select an individual tree from any location, while evaluating the unique characteristics of each species and their different growth environments and, in turn, how that effects or impacts its use in a musical instrument.
By employing unconventional "hands on" methods to tailor both the sound and look of the instrument while in the wilderness, the Walkabout Series brings extraordinary elements to Brady's exceptional drum range. This rare line also includes occasional limited edition exotic veneers for Brady's ply shell snare drum and drum kit range. Traveling for days in some of the most isolated land in the world for such small quantities of any given species guarantees that availabilities in the Brady Walkabout Series will constantly change. So if you've ever wondered how a Brady snare is made, it is here, in nature, where it all begins.
In a copycat world where so much is becoming the same, nothing sounds like a Brady because nothing is built like a Brady. We have remained relatively small and fiercely independent for 30 years. It's essential to who we are. As one of the last autonomous well-known drum companies in the world, we can avoid the bureaucracies and red tape that strangle new and innovative ideas. Perhaps that is why - in a world of homogenized instruments - Brady drums are so remarkably, refreshingly different.

I can remember as a 14 year old school boy heading down the stairs of the old musgroves music store in hay street mall to visit the drum department and listen to the wise words of Mr Chris Brady . i'm glad he found his true calling and like many drummers and lovers of our beautiful unique hardwood trees its good to see them used and shared with the world .

This is a full BRADY Jarrah ply drum kit. And yes, that is the legendary Jeff Porcaro on the backing track for "Calling Elvis".
