After blistering coverage in the likes of the Hollywood Reporter and US business magazine Forbes, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking to reset their brand, but have they become too toxic? That’s the question asked by the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English on Palace Confidential.
She takes aim at the pair’s ‘very arrogant statement’ about their future plans ‘that they’ve done the last of their lookback projects now - ie the ones that are attacking the royal family - and now it’s all about looking forward,’ she tells our royal talk show. ‘But in doing what they’ve done they’ve lost so much credibility, there’s a lot for them to claw back. And it will be really interesting to see how toxic they are or not as a brand.’

As an American, who always cheered for Prince William and Prince Harry, I watched their marriages to Katherine and Megan with much excitement. For years, I have grown to love, respect, and admire both the Prince and Princess of Wales, for their love and loyalty to their families and service to the people of Great Britain and the Commonwealth. However, as far as H&M, there is such a lack of true authenticity and honesty, as well as superficial content in their documentaries, books, articles, and speeches. It is so sad to think they're always looking for ways to betray their own families, while attempting to bring honor and relevance to themselves. 🇺🇸

I agree. I was so hoping that Harry had found his happy ever after when Harry and Meghan’s engagement was announced. Now it’s just unbelievable what the two of them have done over the past three years. The Prince of Wakes has spent many years piloting rescue helicopters, so has had to be responsible and careful about alcohol intake. A very different culture to the rugby drinking fraternity. In Sweden, they have a law that states that in order to stay in the Swedish Order of Succession, the person needs to be raised in Sweden and can only live in another country for five years (or less). So that's a way to limit the British succession to people living and/or raised in the United Kingdom. I do think that's important because obviously the sovereign represents the United Kingdom and should be intimately familiar with British life.
ETA: A peerage is different than the title of 'The Princess Royal'.
🙏 UK Parliament regulates Sovereignty so it would be logical that similar rules apply.
UK Counsellor of Estate must be a Resident which Harry is not. This must be a Royal Parliamentary concern. Moreover UK Monarchy is Head of Commonwealth but not absolute. Any alteration in the law of Succession, Royal Style and Titles require the assent of 15 Parliaments & Realms. It is frustrating to see many comments on weak King Charles remove Titles! when Monarch & Parliament are bound by UK & International laws.
British royalty should have the same rules. Something needs to change regarding Harry and the wifes shocking hateful behavior.

When I was a small child my mother told me to pray for the Queen in my nighttime prayers, it was a given how very special she was. Now I pray for the Royal family because they too are very special to me. Now at 75 years old I still admire and love the Royal family, and I think that the work they do is wonderful and selfless. The whole point of the ad was to have a running gag that Meghan does every job at the office. I agree it’s getting publicity, but does anyone want to buy the product? It might even tarnish the brand, knowing that she’s a major investor in it. The only problem with that is that if only the heir to the throne is allowed to keep their titles, then Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis would also have their titles removed. At the very least, I think the King should issue Letters Patent setting out that, in order to use titles (Prince/Princess, Duke/Duchess), people need to reside in the UK. If they live in any other country, they will have to simply be Mr. or Mrs. and use the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.
Exactly right! Just as when people receive knighthoods, they cannot use the title when they live abroad, only in the UK.
The thing is the current title holders would be Grandfathered in under current LP. He would specifically have to name Harry and his children. As it stands, the P/P titles end with them though, not passed to descendants.

The question is, what have Megain and Hairless produced themselves after signing entertainment contracts worth $100,000,000+ more than two years ago? Little to nothing. And the things they have produced were completed by others. Even the things their charity claims as their good works were initiated, implemented, and completed by the organizations they included in their report put there to cause the reader to assume their charity had initiated and fully funded the project. Even the coffee company is the work of others while Megain seems to want us to believe she's the main driver of the business.

Edward was insistent on abdicating though, and many historians have speculated that he was looking for an excuse to renounce the throne. It is very odd you believe Wallis Simpson to be some sort of victim here given she was a nazi spy and even when involved with Edward was Von Ribbentrop's mistress.
Contrast, however, to the treatment that Meghan Markle received - the late Queen changed the rules to allow Prince Harry to marry a divorcee in a church of England ceremony. How you imagine this was her being treated badly, given then expense to the public purse is a mystery.

Here in So. Cal USA 🇺🇸 just finished making tamales 🫔 and Christmas cookies along with my gingerbread. My mom is Irish/British ancestry and my dad was Mexican so I’m honoring both my cultures! We also read the Christmas Carol every year during Christmas. It’s a lovely book and sadly doesn’t get enough attention IMO.

He was clearly desperate to have what his brother did -- a happy marriage and some children. MM ticked a lot of boxes -- an attractive, independent woman with a career, interest in philanthropy, causes, energy to do something. Her being older, American, divorced and mixed-race must have ticked some unadmitted ones -- she was a built-in rebellion against something he had always been ambivalent about. He is not that bright, and did not dig any deeper, whether because he wasn't capable or because he painted himself a picture and didn't want to rock the boat (To mix a metaphor). Else he would have grasped that she would never bend to the royal protocols, and that her ambitions lay elsewhere.
But the plans for their exit -- of which she was surely the architect -- were inauthentic from the off -- financial independence, by which it appears she, or they, meant considerable wealth, being primus inter pares. If they had been sincere in their proclamations about wanting to do good and to live privately, they would have high-tailed off to Sentebale for a few years and continued work that Harry had started, about which he appeared to feel genuinely passionate. They would have received financial support from his father, and emerged with their reputations burnished, after which they would have been able to do whatever they wanted -- return to Royal life, move to California or Canada, have public or private lives as they saw fit. It is the insincerity as much as the ridiculous abuse of both their families that has doomed them. The thing that finished them was not Netflix, or even the book. It was South Park.
