Hmmm... Are you advocating paddling with all this stashed/attached to your pfd, or adding this stuff after you get out of your boat? I wear a snug sling while paddling and have my knife and a couple 'biners clipped to my harness. More 'biners, pulleys, prussiks, saw, cheap pliers-multi-tool, duct tape, etc is in a stuff sack beside my throw rope (pre-rigged with a pulley and biner for a 2:1 haul system) behind my seat. I might clip the bags to me to keep my hands free for scrambling after I'm out of the boat, but I'm not likely to paddle with them clipped to me. Always having lots of stuff attached to snag in the event of a personal swim seems like bad karma to me.
Hello David, Every boater sets things up a little different. This video is just giving options. If your pfd has pockets and you're able to store biners, prussiks and pulleys inside its not a bad idea to have those items on you. If there isn't space in pockets its better not to have those items clipped to the outside. Ideally you come up with a system that works for you and practice using all of your rescue gear so you're ready if it ever needs to be used in an emergency.
Jim is probably the best SRT instructor. 1:20 He said "he is ready to perform a rescue". So, he will not paddle with this throw bag hanging like that. It's just to access the rescue scene.
