  • Lifejackets have pockets for a reason. Put stuff in yours.

Great video - love these tips. One addition I’ve added to every life jacket are small loops of high visibility nylon cord around each shoulder. That’s so if someone goes in the water and we toss a throw bag to/past them, then can hook the clip on the throw bag to the loop. If they’re really cold and losing dexterity and grip they may accidentally let go of the line we’re using to haul them to the vessel.
Be safe and have fun out there!

Great info. One thing that has changed since you made this is you don't need to decide between PLB and AIS anymore. They now make combo AIS & PLB so best of both worlds.

Great vid. I kayak but same principles apply. I work on “what do I need if I get separated from my vessel” and redundancies.
I can get a dumb phone, VHF, E-flare, laser light, day flare, whistle, signal mirror and some energy gels in my PFD pockets, as well as a water bladder in a back pocket and a rope cutter attached to the straps in the unlikely event I both capsized and get tangled up. My PLB/EPIRB is also permanently attached to one of my straps where it will sit antenna up if I’m treading water or floating on my back.
I’ve seen some kayakers carry repair kit on their personal, but it seems a bit silly to me as if you still have your kayak with you to repair then that kit can be kept on the kayak!
