That whole bay curve from Penzance to St Michael's Mt is one of my favourite places to walk & beachcomb ~ enormously cheering to see & hear it again :) Love old Cornish churches. They always seem so imbedded into the landscape ~ something to do with the weathered granite and lichen. You're such a good story-teller Sarah ~ I was totally entranced by your recounting the legend of the well. Reminds me of Madron Well visited 2yrs ago ~ an incredibly atmospheric place (tied clouties for my wishes). PS. I love the smell of old books too!
I definitely enjoyed the video ❤ Quite familiar area for me now. We walked the St. Michael's Way from St. Michael's Mount to St. Ives via Ludgvan in 2019. Luckily no traces of wolves 👍 And in 2022 we walked from Penzance to Marazion with a detour to Tremenheere Sculpture Garden. And there, to our surprise, we saw a pilgrim sign which said the St. Michael's Way went through there, but we never walked there in 2019. So then we understood that the path was perhaps split somewhere. Thank you for clearing that up 😊 Lovely storiy about the Gulval holy well 🥰 The word "foss" in Norwegian means waterfall. And I believe that the small creatures you found on the beach are called barnackles. And your art piece is beautiful. Thank you for a really lovely video 🥰 Torunn.
Hello, I've friends coming later to watch this. Thats after we've met up for a Coventry Cornish Pasty lunch. I'm going to make a couple tomorrow, hopefully! God Bless & thank you.
Every day is a ‘school day’ We learn something new every day none more than in this charming video. Gentle, interesting & fun to watch. Loved the content and the stories - keep up the good work. Your paintings are quite delightful and you are truly talented Sarah.
I saw four wolves hunched over a deer kill near Jackpot, Nevada on the Idaho border. I’ve seen other wolves in Montana and curiously a wolf in Alabama. But I’d love to walk in Cornwall!!
Lovely walk and a great video. Not watched any for a number of months, so it was good to see what you've been up to. I remember trying to find a camp site in Gulval back in the mid 1980s . Never found it, so stayed in St Margaret's Hotel in Carbis Bay. Great days. Hotel now long gone and now redeveloped 😢
Lovely painting Sarah! I have some of your wonderful paintings on my wall …from your collection! I love them! So thank you again for your fun video! Be well 🌹ana🌹
Another great adventure! That book is amazing! What a find! Sometimes wells or natural springs are in odd places. I was surprised to learn there is an actual spring in a residential neighborhood near me, not realizing "Spring Street" was named for it. I wonder if during the plague days (not sure how it was in Cornwall...only a theory) it became overgrown and no one was still alive remembered where it was. Those sea creatures are a kind of barnacle...picture online says 'gooseneck' barnacles. I've seen them at our aquarium. It's fun to watch you watercolor, Sarah. It takes so much skill to know when to stop, not like oil paints. Beautiful piece. :)
Thankyou for another old book recco..Actually I have abig collection now.. and I sniff them regularly!, Another wonderful video. Thankyou so much.I’m missing Cornwall Joy Thompson
Wonderful video with more interesting Cornish history and myths & legends, love the story of ‘Gulval Well’ with its happy ending, beautifully narrated Sarah, just imagine no smart phones to let your loved ones know you are alive and ‘well’ did Andrew ever find that wise old woman I wonder 😅 watch out Andrew Sarah is getting pretty good at answering a pun with a pun. Well what did you expect! I wasn’t impressed with the thoughtless driver not slowing down on that partly flooded road 🥴 the sound of the wind and surf with St Michael’s Mount in view where you related the story of Sir John Arundell gave me goosebumps:) your portrait including the sea glass is stunning Sarah 👏 you are an amazing artist, thanks 🙏 for sharing your wonderful travels around Cornwall 🥰🥀🤗
Just for the record Michael Van Wijk (aka Wolf) has lived in Auckland, New Zealand for years. I seem to remember him pitching up in an episode of Wanted Down Under, giving advice to the couple who were thinking of emigrating
Always enjoy your videos 👌. I love hearing about all those myths and legends.. I can definitely understand the mother wanting the well to give her some good news... must have been so hard back then 🙏. We had a coffee in the same shack on the beach at Marazion... beautiful spot.. and that little dog was there too... so friendly 🐾😁⛱️🤗😘
We touched on boring our own well this year as we have huge water pressure issues which are going to cost tens of thousands to fix, but we don't have enough garden! Sarah :)
Ouch! Yes, pricey. Our copy is a bit battered and didn't cost as much, about £30 I think. We prefer a cheaper copy because we know it is going out with us and might get wet or damaged! Sarah :)
Love your videos. My partner and I was over in uk from Australia and we took our Granddaughter, 4, to Cornwall she loved the sea side. We were there in August and visited st Michaels Mount it was a magic day your painting captured the memory of it so well. Do you sell any of them? I love watercolours perfect for that scenery.
Hello! Thank you and yes, I have an Etsy shop. Here is the link, cornishwalkingtrails.etsy.com. The international postage is shown on each piece. I hope you find something you like. Sarah :)
Always enjoy watching your walk around. I visited Ludgvan church a few years ago as I have direct ancestors connected to the church. So lovely to see it again.
Your vids are very informative,Cornwall is such an amazing part of the world and the wife and I are definitely visit as long as I can sedate her 😂she doesn't do well especially when it comes to driving distance on the motorway. My ears hurt from all the screaming and crying she does😂😂😂😂😂
Gosh! Must admit I am not a fan of motorways anymore, the 'wink and weave' manoeuvre scares me! Have you considered the train? It may a bit less stressful. Sarah :)
Wonderful video. Your enthusiasm for these old stories is infectious; it’s important to keep these histories alive. It’s only a week since we left Marazion, you made us feel ‘homesick’ . We never got our cream tea on the Mount, the day we visited they closed early because of Storm Ciaròn 🫤 Still a fantastic week.
......and a good weekend starts....
They are called goose barnacles and tend to get washed up after storms 👍🏴
i always love the stories you tell to accompany your walks
Great video. I loved learning about the siege of St. Micheal’s mount.

Great episode (as usual 😀) a wonderful mix of history and fun, amongst other qualities 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Sarah :)
Love Andrews reaction to his new friend in the café, Brings back memories. 💔We spent time on Long Rock beach on our last Cornish holiday.
Fabulous place and always a favourite of mine! Sarah :)

Thanks for watching. The food was very good! Sarah :)
Talking wells , now we have these things called ALEXSA. I love the walk alongside the railway line, great film as ever.
It's a special walk, great views! Sarah :)
A lot of wells and springs dried up once deeper mines lowered the water table.
We touched on boring our own well this year as we have huge water pressure issues which are going to cost tens of thousands to fix, but we don't have enough garden! Sarah :)
Sarah and Andrew..just looked on e bay and vintage a copy of the Robert Hunt book is £100…abit steep for me.!!
Ouch! Yes, pricey. Our copy is a bit battered and didn't cost as much, about £30 I think. We prefer a cheaper copy because we know it is going out with us and might get wet or damaged! Sarah :)

Much easier to get around! Have a great time, Sarah :)
Always enjoy watching your walk around. I visited Ludgvan church a few years ago as I have direct ancestors connected to the church. So lovely to see it again.
Goose barnacles from the Mediterranean.
Which way are the stones in Ludgvan church pointing now? We weren't told. I think you'll find that there are Wolves still in the Midlands!
You found barnacles on the beach! Apparently they are edible, tasting a bit like razor class, not sure myself, but I do like mussels.
Nice walk, that.
Thanks 👍
