What would you do for love? Would you buy a bouquet? Breakfast in bed? Move your entire house?
Our walk starts in Falmouth, Cornwall. We hop on the Truro Falmouth branch line to Penryn to follow the creek to Flushing.
Flushing is a beautiful, Cornish harbour village. Over the centuries it has had many influences. Dutch engineers built the villages quays because of their skill in reclaiming land in marshy areas and renamed the village.
In our walk we explore the social history with the help of a wonderful book written by a local man. Within the book, there are some amazing stories including a love story that will make your heart sing!
We are delighted to be asked to include a sponsorship in our video and we will be removing the mid roll adverts for the first few hundred views after publishing.
    The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on TH-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
Unfortunately we cannot answer comments coming in more than a week after the publishing date of the video.
    Frequently asked questions:
    Do we do meet ups?
We regularly receive requests to meet up from viewers and subscribers, but unfortunately we do not have availability to be able to do this.
The channel is a very time consuming hobby, fitted around our employment and family commitments. Setting aside time for meet ups, means that we are not able to film and edit our weekly videos that you love to watch.
If you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!
    Sarah and Andrew
    What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
    What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dog, perhaps you can make up your own name for him.

Another connection between Flushing and the Dutch, which is not in the books: my Dutch dad married a girl from Flushing in 1957. They lived in the Netherlands all their lives and had 3 children. And I’m one of them.
As a child I spent most of my summer holidays in Flushing.

Hi. Here’s a little romantic story for you.
My now beautiful wife was on holiday with her family in perranporth. She was a young 19 y/o
While stood by the beach having her photo taken, in the background is a bunch of bikers (me being one of them) I was staring at her with stary eyes 🤩.
We lived 200 miles apart back then and discovered this photo years after we were married.
    Keep up the great videos

Its an old English tradition that bakers would bake the bread or even meals in their ovens centuries ago, while the residents were at church. After church they would pick them up to take home to eat. The phrase 'A Bakers Dozen' was because centuries ago when bakers were sending out a dozen loaves or rolls to customers, they had to be of a certain weight. If they weren't the bakers could be prosecuted under the 'Weights and Measures Act' so they always put in an extra one, hence the phrase a 'Bakers Dozen' or as Michael Caine would say, "Not A Lot of People Know That!" 🤪😂🥰

Hi Sarah and Andrew! Lovely and interesting video again 🥰 And a familiar sight of Falmouth train station where I have been a few times 😊 I am so fascinated by all the stories you manage to find and tell in such a great way. And the video makes them alive. I have no idea what I would do for love but I am very impressed by this man who dismantled the house and assembled it again so far away 😳👍🏻 Thank you for this great video. Torunn 🥰

I loved the sunflower fields, both from your walk and the man who planted 80 acres of them for his wife on their 50th anniversary. Sorry to say, my husband isn't that romantic. Every October we visit Door County, Wisconsin: a peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan. Fall colors, Victorian B&B's, lakeside cottages, fish boils. We never get tired of it. This year we stay in a Victorian B&B. Scofield House in Sturgeon Bay was probably our best stay: the room at the top. If he were truly romantic he'd book us a place in Cornwall and we could go hiking as much as we wanted.

I live in Perranwell Station and feel very lucky that I don't need the car to get to Truro or Falmouth. I quite often get the train into Falmouth and then take the ferry over to St Mawes or Flushing, have a nice lunch and drinks and get the ferry and train back home. Two of my school friends got married at St Gluvius Church. Crikey, where do all those people on the beach come from? So noisy. Flushing used to be so secret and tranquil. There was never anyone on the beach years ago as it's quite polluted and smelly due to the docks being opposite. I believe someone from the Cadbury (chocolate) empire lived in the old Tudor house one time.

The skull and crossbones death head depicted on headstones were commonly used as ‘Memento Mori‘ symbols in the 16th to 17th centuries. They were a warning to us all that we cannot avoid death and no matter what our status is in life, we are all the same. "

Lovely walk and ride trip. I always love stories about interesting houses, and one moved 400 miles for love is a treat. And once you've trained a parrot to say something, don't ever expect to hear the end of it, lol. The Dutch began trading along the what is now the Hudson River in the early 1600s, taking advantage of the fur trade. The settlement begun on Manhattan Island was called New Amsterdam, but the colony was called New Netherland. Both became known as New York, and were taken over by the British. Some of the oldest houses in the United States (dating back to the 1600s) were built by Dutch settlers. The Hudson River Valley boasts some of the most beautiful historic homes, though most were built in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Flushing is located in the borough of Queens, in New York City. Isn't it interesting how these influences turn up all around the world? Delft tiles are so charming!

We once watched part of a series about architecture on S4C, the Welsh language Channel (this series helpfully with subtitles). They showed a house similar to the one in your love story. It , similarly to yours, was pegged. It too was moved, hence the phrase , "moving house" was coined. It wasn't unusual for families to do this, at least in Wales. Each piece of the house would be numbered so that, just like the old Airfix kits, it could be reconstructed!
