While the finish to the main event was disappointing, I think it's safe to say that the outcome that we ultimately got with Roode turning heel and winning the title was much better.
We not only got one the best heel turns in Company History but heel Roode was a much better champion than babyface Roode plus he had a long reign with the title so there's that

    • @maxpokebruh27

    • @james_the_animator
      @james_the_animator ปีที่แล้ว +7

Exactly. These fans freak out whenever their very specific fantasy booking doesn’t come true.
If you want to see what would have happened if Roode won here, or if Cody won at WM39 earlier this year, go back and look at the reaction to Seth Rollins’ Universal title run in 2019. He was working his ass off the previous year, and everybody was clamoring for him to win the title. But the minute he gets to it, they all turn on him. This is why Rollins acts like a maniacal supervillain now, and these same supposedly smart fans STILL don’t get it!
Roode was never going to be a big business-booster for TNA, so you don’t risk much by telling a story with a controversial twist. Plus he was always more natural as a heel, and the scenario we got proved that.

    • @BirdGang6

Dixie didn’t just mess up the spike thing she messed up destination America too. Had TNA stayed on that channel for the 3 years they signed for they could’ve recovered their image and gone to a bigger channel (destination America at the time was a medium sized channel but still bigger than most wrestling shows get)
Dixie apparently wrote an emails to TNA executives saying they deserved better than destination American and they deserved more money and a better time slot and somehow sent it to the executives at destination America too. They cut the contract and TNA was only their a year and half instead of 3 years and moved on to a much much smaller channel and they never recovered. Yay Dixie 👍🏼

I think it would have been better if James Storm won BFG 2011 and beat Kurt Angle clean at BFG 2011 for the TNA World Championship, then TNA advertise a James Storm Celebration For Winning The World Title to start the following Impact and then Storm announces an open challenge World Title match in the main event of the show that is only open to people who have never won the TNA World Title. Bobby Roode answers the challenge. Roode and Storm shake hands to start the match, then Roode wins the match by turning heel and smashing the beer bottle over Storm's head and winning the World Title. I think this way would have been more effective in generating heat for Roode, because he stole his James Storm's big moment that he had worked 9 years to get.

Not gonna lie the Final Week of HulkaMaynia was one that shattered my expectations and I think this was a pretty good note to end on.
Maybe we can also make this a tradition.
Because next year you can review My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic…oh and big wrestling event in Daytona where a hobo in a mask said “Theyrrrrrrrre Herrrrrrrrrre!”

One fun fact : TNA at that time was preparing a EU tour and to promote it they started to air Imapact's weekly show on TV. In my country (Belgium) the show aired like at midnight on thursday and there was like two or three weeks of delay with the US diffusion. They did the tour in January then it was off the air forever.

    1. (15:13-19:25)
*What we've ALL been waiting for*
    2. I remember this time period in wrestling.
Jesus, it was arduous to be a TNA fan.
    3. I remember, back then, how weird it was that Bobby Roode, the conquering babyface, lost at the end, especially via shenanigans.
However, looking back on it, it actually made sense, especially given what came after.
If Bobby won, we wouldn't have gotten The It Factor/Leader of the Selfish Generation gimmick that we love and adore.
    4. Congratulations on 10 years of Wrestling With Wregret, Brian!

I haven't seen Roode lately in WWE but in TNA Roode's selling and ability to make his opponent look great is criminally underrated. Whether it was Beer Money, solo, or even the brief "Dirty Heels" tag team with Aries, Roode was always a high spot of any TNA show - Even if it wasn't a 5 star match it was going to being one of the better ones, if not the best, of the night. Really miss those Motor City Machine Gun vs Beer Money matches.

Love that RVD vs Jerry Lynn match, I'm 23 so at the time of this show I was 11 and man. I was blown away. I instantly went with my mom the next day to WalMart and BEGGED her to get me the ECW Unreleased Vol. 1 DVD. Back in them pre network days where all we had was WWE Home Video. They had RVD vs Jerry Lynn on there but also they had that kick ass match where they tagged against the Impact Players from Heat Wave 1999. So dope and eye opening for me as a kid at the time.
