Thank you so much. Like @Hoop Juice said, this is the first time seeing such high quality MJ footage. Actually, since Covid, I've seen more old school footage than ever. Oh, as far as peak Jordan, ion kno, I like 96-98 Jordan. That was a grown man. But thanks again though.

MJ was a 6’6” shooting guard who had the agility of a point guard, strength of a forward, hands of a center, leaping ability of a high jump athlete on top of his unparalleled competitive spirit. No wonder why he was a nightmare for his opponents.

@@Sam-ky3su Derrick Rose was ONE guy I witnessed from 2008-2012 who played in the air like Mike could, and Rose was so explosive and shifty too. They didn't play the same position but their games were similar, and if he didn't get hurt Rose was gonna be the greatest point guard ever
One thing that really separates Michael and Kobe is speed/frequency of movements and explosiveness. Kobe is agile enough in his prime but no version of Kobe has that insane speed and explosiveness of Michael in 88-93.
I think the best matchup would be 2003 Kobe. He had already fully developed his game by that point and he bulked up so he wouldn't get overpowered in the post. MJ still has the edge in my opinion, but I would have loved to see that matchup.
Kobe was in no way as fast as Jordan bruh. No way No how.
I've never seen a 6'6" human being move the way he did. It's simply unbelievable. His acceleration and stopping power. His change of direction. Unmatched to this day.
Don't forget the hands. Kobe had average hands. Michael had Dr. J hands which enabled him to manipulate the ball (and the defender) in ways Kobe never could. It's also why Jordan had such a better touch, which led to far greater efficiency.
Thing with Kobe is, his 3pt range and skills were unmatched. He literally had a move for every scenario to make up for not having the big hands or super hero leaping ability. He could shoot from anywhere. Surprisingly, he and Jordan average the same points per shot (pps)…Michael just Made it look sooo much easier

Blessed Disciple I always thought D-Wade had that attacking big shot layup package closer to MJ than anyone other than Kobe. I believed Wade attacked the basket more like MJ and put his body on the line every night like MJ where Kobe didn’t always do that. Good analysis because I always believed that from day one. Jordan’s fade away is second tjj on none and I haven’t seen anyone do it as pure as MJ! Kobe’s nice at it but he does too much unnecessary movement which makes him inefficient. Jordan is such a pure shooter and it’s poetry in motion from layups to dunks to fade-aways! Jordans defense is what separates him from LBJ. LBJ stands around flat footed on defense. Jordan hand checked, cut off screens, challenged up court passes, inbound passes. He even said it himself on 1 of his favorite plays began with him on defense, stealing a pass, and racing up court for the jam.

If I remember the analytical consensus correctly, mid range shots are bad shots for *average* players. If you're average you maximize your production by going for 3s and layups. Of course if you're Dirk, Kobe, Jordan, etc., You're not just average at it, and analytics would say take more of that since it's harder to stop (and since that's usually what defenses will give you).

@@aikeeramz this is more or less the truth. In a vacuum the 3pt shot is more valuable and if you're constantly taking 20 footers, then it's literally one step back for the 3. However, jordan attacked the rim a lot - A LOT. Finished really well as well. The midrange jumper was a set up for his drives if anything. So yea, jordan was a pretty god damn efficient player from an analytics perspective and constantly ranks high across metrics for that reason. Jordan stans would actually say that if jordan played in this day and age, he would have naturally developed that 3pt shot more than he had in the 90s and his ppg and scoring efficiency stats would likely sky rocket.

As you can see he was way more faster than anyone back then. Players nowadays are faster & more skilled at all positions than majority of the ones who played in 70s, 80s, 90s & early 00s.

It is pretty underrated on how efficient Jordan was when he was on the bulls for his career on the bulls he averaged 31.5 points 5.4 assists 6.3 rebounds on 50.5% shooting and 33.2% from three he was crazy efficient considering he was averaging 30 points for his Career on the bulls

They were so fluent with an unlimited arsenal of offensive moves. I know that Hakeem attributes playing Soccer at a young age helped him with his footwork & smooth movements. That's good that Jordan learned from Worthy but I also wonder if he study film of old players.

Definitely peak MJ, he was like a rocket about to go off. Every play is exciting because you don't know what he will do next; he can turn on the jets, leap over you, or kill with his jumpshot. When Jordan got older, he could only use his speed in short bursts, and he relied more his skill and his IQ to beat opponents. Here in 91, he could overwhelm the opposition with his athleticsm.

HE took what the DEFENSE gave him, and spontaneously adapted to score. Whereas Kobe forced too many shots, and missed most of them. Even Phil Jackson said Kobe refuses to pass, and just forces up prayers, over and over, and over again...mostly missing and losing games because of it. But the highlights make Kobe look legendary, but it is NOT in context. He forced too many selfish shots when he could have passed.

I'm only 20 years old and I know MJ the goat. I never saw him play but his legacy is almost surreal, you think and hear about MJ and you think he's not human. Tom Brady is the GOAT but he wears opponents down by rarely making mistakes and punishing opponents mistakes
Jerry Rice was unstoppable, but his game was mostly about getting open with precise routes and excellent hands (more than making crazy catches)
Before jordan, Kareem was probably the GOAT (or at least close) and his game was just about consistency and using a few proven moves to score
Jordan was the greatest in the game, and at the same time the most entertaining, explosive, unpredictable player in the league. One night he would murder yo7 in the post, the next night he knock down midrange shots or 3pt bombs. And you cant look away for a moment or you might miss the most insane athletic feat you’d ever see
To everyone who has watched this video there are few things you have to keep in mind. First, there are hardly any screens set for him and he is often double teamed but he negates that with his quick first step. Along with that, he doesn’t use 20 dribble moves to get to his spot, he takes a few and knows where he wants to get to to get his shot off. And the biggest thing is that there are hardly anyone standing by the 3-point line which means that when he does make his move he is running into 2 or 3 more defensive players along with his teammates which makes the paint even more congested. He averaged 30+ in his career when the NBA was like this, imagine if he played nowadays when the centers are standing by the 3-point line along with everyone else leaving the paint wide open, easily 35-40 points a night. #GOAT
Jordan would benefit the most from this era, he would have 20 layups a game. Probably would get bored and retire.
A lot of that has to do with the defense being unable to zone up on his drives and take space away from him. Players today aren't exclusively worse at scoring without screens

He also would've mastered three-pointers as well. I mean, his three ball was already strong even without focusing on it. Imagine his game but with like 6-7 threes a game too. 91 Jordan could've easily avg 40 today.
@@Mjumbojetpresdent Just to add, every year that he increased his 3pt attempts to around 3 per game ('90, '93, '96, '97), his 3pt % was around 38%, which tells me that a lot of other years, when he's rarely attempting 3's, there's probably a high frequency of those shots being end of quarter launches.
I have zero doubt - with Jordan's form and shooting mechanics - that he couldn't flirt with +38% as a high volume 3pt shooter.
Nevertheless, I'd love to see him in today's game, not launching 3's, but carving up teams and getting to the line; more damage getting the other team's prime defenders into foul trouble. There's been a massive regression over the years, for how they defend the interior; which wouldn't have happened if Jordan was in the league today.
There's nobody better than this man. I've never seen anyone move like him.

That’s what I love most about his game. He makes everything look so easy. He’s so light on his feet and everything looks so calculated. The player that reminds me of him today is Kawhi. But Jordan was way quicker and more explosive.

A M Something to think about but Kobe could hit 2,500 “consecutive” shots and still not match MJ’s efficiency. He had bad shot selection which comes from having a lower b-ball IQ. Also he wasn’t faster, quicker, have large hands, wasn’t as athletic, not as good of body control, agility, endurance, passer, rebounder, and he wasn’t as clutch as he has a low % there.

Jordan moves often comes through instinct and more natural depending on the deffense dictates him
Kobe sometimes has the move already activated to his mind and then he executes it.
they have both good footwork but jordan has more speed, agility and hangtime while kobe has more dribbling skill because jordan doesnt need to and that is one thing that make him so efficient and his game so effortless he doesnt need to dribble the ball 10 to 15seconds just to pass by his defender he just. need to dribble it 2 to 4x and create an openning for a jumpshot, dunk or a layup.
But their both good and they are both my favorite player and that is just also ky opinion :)

To me Jordan passes the eye test as the greatest player that I’ve ever seen. There may come a day when I see a player better than him but that day has not yet come.
What stands out is how effortless this season was for him. I always was in awe over his 87’ thru 89’ seasons in which I felt that frame was his prime and the most untouchable player that ever saw on an NBA floor.... But watching this he just learned how to make it look easier... I think today’s fans remember the 98’ old guy Jordan or the Wizards version who is nothing like this dude who owned everyone all the time... Some complain that he didn’t beat the pistons early enough, but he had to wait for Pippen and Grant to get better, don’t forget he was dropping 40’s and 50’s in those losses to Detroit... Best defensive superstar to play the game! Defense = Effort/Heart... Everyone wants to shoot a reverse lay up of dribble open into a smooth jumper but the real gamer greats play lock down D...

MJ was legit too damn good. One of the most underrated things about him was his ability to shred the defense making it helpless. It couldn't react quickly enough , or it was sliced, or so much space was created, or the sudden burst into the air left him there wide open. Dude didn't even have to run around hard like a headless chicken. Very quick, decisive moves that created an open shot or a shot that couldn't be challenged enough.
This is definitely his peak. He had the explosiveness of his late 80s days, but this was where he was starting to build his IQ and skill set more. Which was his strongest threat in his 2nd three peat

Also, he carried that team between 90 and 92. Pippen was a up and coming all star then but not the hall of fame two way player he became in the 93-98 seasons.
Agreed. Jordan had to carry them a lot in the 1998 season as well as Scottie was injured and missed a bunch of games. No other Bulls players apart from Michael and Scottie averaged more than 16 ppg between 1990-1998.
I'd say by 1991 Pippen stepped up to the plate, though he was an all star in 1990. He was an all star in 1992 too and a Dream Team member. In terms of speed I'd say 80s Jordan was faster than in 91-93, but not as strong or as smart. He was still very quick and a freak athletic in the first 3peat. 80s MJ was his athletic peak, 96-98 MJ had the most IQ and strength, 91-93 MJ was like a balance of both

If he did that against the highest level of competition, then he certainly could have averaged even more in the regular season, but there was no reason to do so. He averaged a little less, his team mates got more involved and they won anyways. In the playoffs however, you gotta step up and he did just that, year after year.
As I’ve always said... the 90-91 season was Jordan at his most badassest’💪🏽😎. Not taking away from other years after that...but it seems his game leading up to his 1st ring was so lit with extra adrenaline...he seemed to grab the ball a little harder ya’ know? Like if he wanted he could pop the basketball in his grip with every touch ... he wanted the trophy so bad. He was at a perfect age where all his prior styles, swag and air-time was perfectly represented on speed, crack, PCP & steroids during the ‘91 season. Dope, fresh ... running full speed and stopping and cutting on the drop of a dime with precision and strength. Young and flying high. Stuffing the rock down the throat of the net. I watched many MJ vids over the years. This one does something special. Watch close. It highlights a string of amazing plays by MJ in individual games. Like an average of 9 or 10 per game shown on here. Watch the footage closely and you can tell it's the same arenas. Sure today's stars might have 2 or 3 great plays worth a highlight reel per game.
