The school bus is identical to the one my grandfather used to drive; it, usually, had his seven children, within!

I have a ‘98 I bought new, which now has just over 100K miles on it. I’m considering doing some restoration including a re-paint of the arctic white color to get it back to more what it was like new. The big V-8 engine feels like it’s just broken in and I have no doubt it could go another 20 years if I took care of it. You’re so right about the size of that gas tank, which were cut almost in half in the next version to keep the weight down for EPA mileage reasons. The cruising distance &/or time between fill-ups is just amazing, but a $100+ refill will get your attention if you wait until it’s empty, so I usually try to keep it topped off after it gets down into the ¾ to ½ range to ease the pain. What really gets my attention are the sticker prices of new Suburbans. Yes, they’ve been made more comfy and luxurious, with more electronic gadgets, but come on, they’re more than I paid for my first house! That’s why some more modest outlays for restoration are looking so attractive to me. Plus I think the style of yours and mine have aged well and look more ‘classic’ than ‘clunky’ to my eye.

Funny how they were two door vehicles in their early years. Must have been a pain to get into those rearmost seats.

The 75th Anniversary Model was the 2010, not the 2011. 1935-2010 75 years!
