    I had a dark blue 1974 Buick Regal that I bought in 1979. It was a great car. I learned to do my own repairs to keep it on the road. I miss those days.

    I had a 1973 Buick regal too ,it had 200,000 miles on it, I blew the motor and put a motor and transmission in it, the driveshaft was only 2 feet long, with this short driveshaft it was like a four wheel drive, it was really good in snow with a good set of snow tires, it ended up with over 400,000 miles before it just wore out

    First starts - if you want to be extra careful, pull the distributor and spin the oil pump while manually turning the motor over slowly. That will get oil almost everywhere you want it including the lifters…. As for crank, a little oil down the plugs (anything from wd40 to a spoon full of ATF)… also it does not hurt to run Premix 2 stroke/gas mix in the carb first run. Extra lube for the valve seats, and cylinder walls on initial start up….. 60% of the time, it works every time.

    A coworker at my first job out of college bought what could have been a duplicate of this Regal in 1983. She was so excited and wanted to take a bunch of us out to lunch in it. I was told I had to get in the back seat because I was the youngest! 🤣 Those early 70s 2-door colonnade cars did require flexibility and dexterity to enter and exit the back compartment.

    I'll always have an appreciation for the GM A-bodies of the mid 70's.
    The 5mph park bench mounted out front on the 73 models was tough for designers to implement.
    IMO/Buick and Pontiac did the best.

    That's a fantastic find. I would recommend that the owner just clean it up, service it and enjoy it the way it is. A car can be restored or modified but an original car can't be duplicated.

    She sounds good...
    Ive owned a few cars from those yrs .
    And they all got poor gas mileage...
    But , there are some things you can do to improve on it...
    My dad had a 72 Impala with a 350 & with 20k miles on it, he pulled the heads & had em shaved..
    It increased compression but it didnt turn it into a 400 hp motor...
    They're nice cars (especially Buick).
    I loved em...(GM Cars )
    Love to find a 73 Chevelle.
    Most were junked .
    Others are not worth the $$ to bring em back.

    Rust, bitter Cold; I'm so glad I don't live in the Northeast anymore. I used to loathe the Colonnade Style car when I was a kid but today I actually appreciate them and see them for what great potential they have. For a fraction of the previous generation A bodies you can have a decent foundation for a muscle car.

  • @charlesatwell6658
    @charlesatwell6658 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh wow I can't believe this popped up when I wasn't even searching! The reason I was excited is because my first car was this very year and model only mine was triple brown! It was an attractive dark brown with a leather brown looking interior but no one noticed it much in the 80's and 90's. My grandparents bought it new and gave it to me because they were only going to get 1200 for it on trade in 1983. With mag wheels and dual exhaust it really looked muscular but that 165 hp. 350 Buick V8 was not muscular however I was able to put a 455 in it in 1997 that woke it up! In 2000 I sold it for 1800 to help purchase a GTO. I really wish I could have just kept it but I didn't have the funds to fix it up the way I wanted! In 2000 it still had original paint and the vinyl top was still soft, but it needed paint and a lot of chassis detailing! Take care of that rare car, I only saw 1 other like mine in all those years. The Cutlass and Monte Carlo way out sold them. I guess most Buick owners wanted 4 doors.

    • @LunarOutlawsGarage
      @LunarOutlawsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is sweet man. She must have been a beast with a 455 under the hood. We all have cars we wish we never sold but unfortunately we can’t turn the hands of time back. The 70s Buick’s looked surprisingly good in brown

    Getting a visual overview of the engine is great. Once you decide to try and get it running though. I start with changing the oil, priming the oil pump, and if the engine is not stuck Spray some fogging oil in the cylinders. I use a small gas can with 2 stroke oil/gas mix to get it running at first.

    Good thing you did not remove the points...as those have to be set with a dwell meter...hence the "little window" to set the points with the engine running using the dwell meter...and NOT with Feeler stock...and ONLY the old timer mechanics have a dell meter...

      False.
      They can be set static with a feeler gauge OR running with a dwell meter.
      Motors WITHOUT the window can be set using a dwell meter with the cap off and the high-tension lead grounded .

    Why not disable the ignition and crank to get lubrication circulating? And then hook up ignition to fire the engine? Is this a bad practice?
