    Had two of these from new. Both manual. Did over 150k in miles in my second one. And had remapped when at 10k miles. Faultless car. Brilliant interior. Had two young kids in the back for a lot of the time. Easy to clean and looked like new when chopped it in for my audi. Miss the mk7 a lot. Fab cars. Fast, economical, comfy, sporty, fun to drive and irons out any road.

    I've a Mk6 with 140 miles, engine is like new, pulls like a train through the gears, have gotten 70mpg at 55mph on flat roads, typically getting 58-60 on a daily commute.
    Change the oil and filters every 5k, short journeys are murder on these engines, keep them running hard and the fuel tank always above 1/4 full

    My turbo went 3 weeks after owning it at 83000 miles had Vw history. Vw fitted a new turbo on it but on return of the vehicle they didn’t do an oil change , it was leaking exhaust smoke and the coolant was low... Vw history is only as good as the mechanic doing the work .

  • @markstanton5882
    @markstanton5882 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I own a 16 plate which I've had since new - mostly bullet proof but issues I've experienced - rusting rear brakes, rattling drivers air bag and mib2 hi (discover pro) infotainment unit faults. All seem to be common issues on this generation of Golf. The infotainment system is a seat/vw /audi unit and also failed on my prior car (an Audi). I'm also aware that the DSG box (which is excellent) can develop faults and are horribly expensive to repair. DPF issues are also common at high miles. As with all VW's they're much more complex and far less reliable than they were 20 years ago.... I've bought Audi/VW for 30 years starting with a Polo and sadly don't think I will buy another. Since diesel gate, the quality of the cars has dropped dramatically and it is very noticeable if you get inside a Mk8 GTD.

    I have a 2015 Golf GTD, 184 in deep Pearl black metallic, with the 19” Santiago alloys, and the winter pack fitted, it came from the factory with the red painted brake calipers and heated front screen, Lane assist, I bought mine brand new, and at present time it has 11,587 genuine miles on the clock.

    I traded mine in with 58K on the clock. My seats were custom leather so could see they were faded but not hugely, interior was still near mint condition, brakes had plenty of life still, it did have a few bugs show through - on occasion, the satnav flashed up with Wolfsburg for 10s before reverting, which was weird - as if it wanted to go home! lol. I also began experiencing vibration feedback through the steering wheel which I never got in the first 3.5 years of ownership and set the pressure sensors off on all wheels (once), media interface would sometimes stop responding so I had to fully shut the car off and restart as well as oddities with the window motor playing up on a couple of ocassions. I was suprised it still went for £13K at auction!

    • @toms_garage
      @toms_garage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the GTD is much more engaging and feels technically faster (primarly due to the noises pumped in). The IS 300h has that battery torque off the line that helps with roundabouts etc. Lexus is definately more comfortable for motorway journeys but the GTD is great fun!

    Be careful people I bought an early 2013 golf GTD with 21,000 miles a 1 owner immaculate example from a local high end prestige dealership. At 29k the engine light came on with rough running,it tuned out to be a vvt fault and on closer inspection the vvt actuator had failed and the vvt sprocket had lost 2 teeth! VW failed to acknowledge the problem and I lost my case and had to pay for a whole cam box and after my bad luck it became a Tpi (Technical point of interest) to VW on early cars and they changed the part number of the vvt part. Oh and front crank seal weeped at 41k My advice don’t buy an early car I went for the lowest miles in the colour I wanted big mistake. Another thing to note is the standard suspension is horrendous i fitted the genuine GTI performance dampers and springs and anti roll bars the car is transformed now.
