How to add Pics to your stories on "Archive of Our Own"

- This is a screen demonstration on how you can make your stories more fun by adding pictures to your stories. I discovered the first time that it can be a little confusing doing this the first time, so I thought a video like this would help others.

My dude you are a serious lifesaver, I was on the verge of promising my first born child to a witch in order to learn the secrets of uploading images to ao3 and then I found your video!!!
A much simpler way is to use the rich text option in the editing tab, then copy your image link and paste it directly in the text where you want it. Rich text also allows you to increase or decrease the size to whatever you need.

An addition to this Super good tutorial! The links won’t work with AO3 unless they are .jpg! It will come up blank if they are .png so make sure you check!!

As of April 2023, I think .png links also work? At least I can see .png pictures. Maybe AO3 made some changes to the website?
All the other tutorials I've read all keep saying to switch to Rich Text, something I didn't really feel comfortable or confident doing out of fear of ruining all my progress, and then I stumble across this treasure and feel much more confident in adding custom artwork for my stories. Thanks so much! This was a lot of help.

Oh my god I am SO THANKFUL for this!! Honestly the description on the Ao3 page didn´t work out for me but your tutorial was perfect. Also the note from one of the comments - that it only works with jpg - was a big revelation!

This really helped! I had just spent hours on drawings and other images to help people visualize what is happening in the story or as a support, but then I couldn't figure out how to post it!

Here 3 years later but thank you! Just got my ao3 invitation and this will help my first story
Alright if anyone is still having problems uploading images( at least for me it’s mainly because the website refuses to open for me, I even tried opening it on other devices and it still doesn’t work) if you’re having the same problem: Imgpile works just the same just a different process. Go to imgpile, upload your image there on the site( TIP: Something I noticed! Ao3 only seems to allow images that are ONLY JPG at least, that’s what I’m noticing whenever I tried doing the link but whenever my image was PNG it just appeared blank. So make sure your image is saved as JPG.) Once you upload your image on imgpile, right-click on the uploaded image and click “ open in new tab” etc. there, get the link from that window. In that link make sure the ending of it says “ JPG” and paste it to your writing page on ao3 with the same link guide that was in this video ( ) preview it to see if it worked( worked just fine for me) andddddd that’s pretty much it. Hope this helps!
Edit: Oh and if you want to center your images simply follow this link guide ( ) minus the parentheses ofc lmaoo hope this helps!

@@trash1215 idk :/ I find that it’s very easy to edit on a computer when it comes to ao3, haven’t tried anything on mobile yet. But I find that the program she was using in this video is working( weirdly enough and should work for mobile) I guess it was just down the particular day that I watched this video and every other day during that month until finally it started working lol so I’ll say just play around with it! I find that if you google search things for ao3 with tumblr alongside what you’re searching a lot of tumblr posts will pop up with info. Some of them are really old and hopefully one day I’ll just make a updated ao3 guide on my tumblr or bring it TH-cam since ppl don’t really talk about how to maneuver ao3 lol. Anyway, hope this was relatively helpful!
