I don’t think I agree with you with regard to wearing coat. Wearing shorter coat would cut you shorter unless you are wearing same colour as your trousers or jeans.wearing long coat is ok as long as it is not loose.
Even petites has different body shapes so not all petite fits the same. I've been watching a pear shaped petite channel and realized half the style won't work for me as I do not have the curvy hips; rather I am more an apple shape, just in petite. I went thru 7 petite videos from various channels before finding this to be relieved to say YES, thank you, I absolutely agree with every tip mentioned here! The idea is items you wear is to be PROPORTIONAL to your body size. That include patterns, coats and jackets, shoes and boots, bags--these needs to be petite too, just like your size and frame. Bulky and oversized does not work in my opinion, even if it's very chic and creates movement yada yada...the RIGHT FIT WINS them all!! Keep this in mind and good luck :)
Petites have child proportions. You will not find normal clothes in most shops I return to the shops 80% of clothes when i buy online. Trousers height is almost under bust
Definitely agree with the long coat point! I am 5’3”, and my lower legs are shorter. I look better with shorter dress/skirt too, anything past my knee just make my legs look chubby.
I'm kinda old, 5'3" without shoes and when I'm at my smallest can actually fit in children's sizes. I don't have much of a butt anymore in off the rack jeans and I love jeans but the brand's that are flattering for older women are quite dear on the pocketbook so measuring yokes, where the pockets are etc is quite helpful for me so now I will definitely PAY ATTENTION TO these things for an attractive fit! Very helpful
I am 4’08 . I love watching your video. Great tips on how to style petite frame . I am going to subscribe to your channel. I can’t believe you’re a mom. You looked so good .
I’m so glad I found this video on my “recommended” section. I have been trying to elevate my style and this is just what I needed. Thank you for helping us 5’4 & under girls!!! Xoxo 😭👏🏻💕
Aww!! Thank you! and we're practically the same size! and girl I totally know the struggle.. I'm still learning too and I have some videos to help with that and lots of videos coming up in the future to help figure out everyones personal style! Thank you for being here
Its good to watch someone that is petite so that you can see their style and how they were clothes. Especially if they are speaking about clothing and style xxx Thank you for sharing this video x
HELLO, Elana! I just found your videos this morning. Thanks for the petite style hacks. I'm 5'2' 112 lbs and 65 years young. Through the years I've gotten caught up in the trends rather than always watching proportions for my small frame. Now I wonder what I was thinking. In this phase of my life, I'm interested in developing a simplified classy and chic wardrobe using neutral colors of black, white, beige, and gray. This video will help me as I finish developing my simplified wardrobe.
All great tips. A pattern I enjoy is a blended pattern. Difficult to explain but when the pattern and colours are all blended together. Without a lot of background colour showing. Great video.
Finally! A petites video with someone who's 5ft, not 5ft 4 ! 😂❤ I'm a quarter inch shy of 5, and i completely agree that they are worlds away and different to style!
Thank you. I didn't realize that there is content on TH-cam for the petite woman. Sometimes I feel we're neglected. At 5 feet, small frame, short torso and short legs It's a challenge finding clothes that fit. My 3 go to stores have eliminated their petite section. They told me I could shop online. However, you can't try on the garment when you shop online, can't feel the fabric against my skin.(I'm very sensitive to certain textures), and I wear a 00 Petite or xxs Petite and it's hard to find a good fit. You gave a lot of good suggestions as to what not to wear and what works. Anything to big and bulky doesn't suit our small frame. Thank you.
I personally have resisted the urge to roll up my jeans that far because I remember being told that when you have a long length of solid colour, it elongates your body, as opposed to having the colour broken up or interrupted by a different colour. But I'll try the ankle tip next time and see how it goes :) just worried about my legs looking too short if my jeans are rolled up a lot... That's why I've stayed away from cropped jeans personally (I'm 4"11)
It depends. Cropping jeans make sense if you're going to wear round-toe flats or a chunky heel, the boney ankle gives a slimmer illusion that softens the heavy look of a chunky sandal or rounded ballet flat. However, a long skinny jean - not bunched up - DOES in fact make you look longer and slimmer, especially if you add a thin heel or pointy-toe flat. Actually, you can't go wrong with any style if you're wearing pointy shoes or heels. In any case, cropped jeans are more of a modern trend and can look slimming. Bonus tip is to that if you're going cropped, make sure pants are loose or straight-legged bc anything baggy will shorten your height. Also, wear nude or flesh-toned shoes if wearing cropped, but match the color/tone of your pants if wearing long skinny jeans or leggings. Lastly, ballet leggings (aka stirrup leggings) are also elongating and very 80s chic.
Totally agree with all your points!!! A new subscriber here.. I love how soothing your voice too. I'm petite 5'1 and have almost the same body structures like you,so I'm excited watching you,you explained this so meticulously 😍😍
Hi Elana, one added tip for handbags if it is a shoulder bag the drop on the bag should be 18 inches or higher. The higher we petite gals carry our bags the better!
I have a long-ish torso for a petite and extra short legs. I feel like pants above the ankle take away the little bit of leg I have and just look weird on me.
Levi’s rib cage jeans are great!!!!! They are high rise and I ordered them online but with my torso it makes it look so good without making it look too high rise. I ordered mine online with a 29 inseam I’m around 5’3/5’4 so the jeans go below my ankles too!
Dear Elena. I just recently found your channel. Thanks a lot. I am 5.1, so I am in you category. Just want to tell, that I try not to complain about my hight, there are so many people who don’t notice it and a lot of men love petite tiny girls 😀😀😀😀😀
Thanks Elana these are great tips!! I’d love to see more pictures of different types of jackets.. I’m a curvy petite with a big bust and you are right.. I heard on other petite channels to try the long coat styles, so I did yesterday, and they looked absolutely awful on me!! I was so upset 😭 thinking I’m just too curvy and that’s why I couldn’t pull it off, so I was so happy to hear u think they are overwhelming on all petites, so it’s not just my body shape!! 😘😘 I have a pic if u want to see it it’s herendous 🤣🤣
I am 5 feet and agree with your tips and agree with tailored and no chunky for me.anyway. I was wondering about the high waist and can tell by the photos you showed. I will try midrise. I can see it can be overdone with high waisted jean. I dont know why but ppl have said dont show any skin but for me it looks classy to show ankle on me. True about the coats. It depends on your height. For me the above the knee for me. I learned about the large prints. I do agree about going with more solids for me personally. I got a small bag. I tried the large bag and it just did not work for me. That is what I have gone to and did have to get rid of big bags. I am past the mom carrying everything. You really helped me know I am on the right track
Just ran across your video. I am five feet as well. Your tips are the best I have seen. Especially about the coat, did not realize that. I am 74 years old so I don’t worry too much about the large hand bag, grandchildren are grown. You are very sweet and knowledgeable. Thank you, I will subscribe and continue to watch.
These are great tips, Elana - and I have probably messed up on every one of them, lol!! I'm on my tiptoes hoping to re-reach 5'2" (I've lost an inch somewhere... have you seen it?), but have always felt good when I think of how my grandmother (who was close to 5'6" or better) would tell me that "good things come in small packages!" And she worked in a jewellery store, so who was I to question?!? :) I like how you showed the option of tucking in the chunky sweater 2:54 - it fixes the "I want to wear this!" with the "Tuck it in" suggestion. -- I'm looking at the examples you've given - which are excellent, btw - and think to myself, "It's nice to emulate Instagram pictures, _but_ those pics may have to be adjusted if we little ones are looking at photos of girls that are, say, 5'8"... !!! :) Thanks for these tips, Elana. Petite is a good niche for you! (You might try some pics/"dress up" moments of yourself as well vs just Instagram photos... Just a thought? Could be fun - like your bag pic!) I'm just gonna climb into a large bag now and forget my styling messes... :) Shannon.
Lol!! Girl, I've messed up on all of these and even more things probably too lol! It's nice to have some humor and just laugh at ourselves! :) We're all learning and figuring out our style :) Glad I can help in some way! & Yes! Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely have try on or have pictures of myself in the future showing examples of what I talk about/ give advice on! It's definitely important to see what I'm talking about on a petite body. Also- I'm so glad you noticed the picture with me in the bag !! I thought I was funny putting that together, haha! I haven't seen your missing inch, however I'm wondering if anyone has any inches to spare!? LOL :)
@@ElanaKinda I keep wearing higher and higher heels to try to keep up with my son...actually, I've had to slow my ascent since he's just getting so tall - nigh on 6' now! Huh... maybe _that's_ where my inch went...!!! :) You in the bag was priceless, Elana!! I have some pictures around here somewhere of me in a box... Too much fun! Tall folk don't get it, lol!! -- You're doing great, btw, with your vids - keep it up! Air hugs, Shannon. :)
I'm 4' 7" but I have big feet, big legs, large upper arm. Mid section fat. I'm 114 lbs consider over weight for my height. Thks for sharing. I will take yours tips to consider.
Thanks, thank you, thank you very much. I'm also a petite mum and I know what that does particularly in my society where curvy/chubby shapes and sizes are more appreciated
i like showing off my ankles because it makes me look better but my ankles get cold sometimes. It happens a lot at work I come to work with a nice outfit but ankles get really cold and i have to struggle pulling my socks to cover my ankles
I love your fashion tips! I am 4 foot 11. I am so happy that the store American Eagle Outfitters have length small for their jeans, they used to have one length only.
Thank you! :) and yes!! American Eagle even has EXTRA Short too! Me being 5ft 0" I fit better into extra short so I appreciate them having so many different sizing options!
I am 5’1 I have a small waist but a long torso and thicker thighs. I have found that high waisted definitely looks best for my body shape. Even though I’m petite.
Thank you for the tip about high waisted jeans. I tried a pretty good quality pair the other day and while it fitted my bottom pretty well, I thought my body looked kinda squished in it. I thought I was having a bad body day (I'm 4f11 and around 110 pounds) but it makes sense now.
I am 5' 1" and a senior citizen. Well, as far as the purse/bags go, i don't carry a purse anymore. I have problems with my right shoulder/pain and easier to use a smallish backpack, bought in the purse dept of stores. It distributes the weight onto both shoulders. I do put a lot of things in it. It is not those huge backpacks, kids use for school. I don't have a car and walk to bus stops, so it is more comfortable when walking and waiting for a bus to have a backpack. I don't wear shorts anymore and in the summer it is really very hot. I want to wear capri's that come below the knee or to just below the calf. Which one do you think is better? My legs are short of course and so is my torso, Having a belly and weight around hips, I don't like to really tuck tops in. I feel wearing a top (it's not baggy) out does cover that tummy (very hard to lose at my age) . It is very hard to find capri's though. All the shorts at my local stores are shorts all above the knee (even on me.)
It is hard at 4’11 no hips whatsoever, not much of a bottom, large chest and broad shoulders. Petite or kid girl size mid rise jeans/ pants straight leg actually look tailored and nice. Slim fit tops in dark colors paired with lighter colored bottom colors work best for me. Do the opposite if you’re smaller on top. All these years, I’ve never realized how tiny I actually am and also out of proportion until I viewed photos of myself next to average sized adults. Advice… look at photos of yourself standing next to average sized adults to determine proportion size of accessories and clothing. It has helped me figure out how to balance out my proportions in this “giant” world. As far as footwear, if you wear boots, go with a 2 inch block heel or wedge. If you want to wear a long top untucked or long sweater, it shouldn’t go past your crotch, and also wear with it, heels/ wedges to counter the length so your legs don’t look shortened or stumpy. Good luck petite ladies.
I am 5 foot and am looking for a camel color coat and there it was - a pic on the left when you were addressing coat lengths. Do you happen to know brand or where I can get one very similar to that? Thank you and really enjoy your info for us petites!!
I’m 5’2” I don’t really have a problem with my height. I like feeling small next to my man. Gives me the chance to wear heals and still feel small with my honey
Hey Elena.. I like your videos on petite dressing tips. Can you please make some videos for dress options without tucking in the short/top. Maybe for tunic tops. Thanks a lot.
What about length of a maxi dress for petite height women? Just purchased 1st one this week and it needs hemmed (of course) so not dragging on floor. Should hem line be above my ankle like pants or just slightly above floor length. And what is the best type of shoe to wear with a maxi dress?
Totally agree about the coats and even long sweaters. I’m 5’4 and can get away with some petite no no’s but when I wear long coats/cardigans I look like I have on a bathrobe. Secondly, I’m short waisted and finding mid rise jeans is so hard.
omg! thats literally the best way to explain long coats and cardigans.. bathrobes lol!! and try checking out madewell! they're pricy but high quality and have sales somtimes (you can also find their jeans at nordstrom or nordstrom rack too) and they have lots of options for mid rise :) high waisted is more "trendy/popular" so retailers carry this style more right now
Thats great! definitely rock it girlfriend!! I'm all for wearing whatever makes you happy and feel best! Personal style is just that, personal! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
Tie the shirt into a knot but not at the waist, but tie it at mid hip, it will cover a belly and not look baggy. That's what I do and it looks great that way. Also I sometimes belt a shirt at the waist and it forms a peplum, covers the tummy and looks really put together. BTW, I'm 5'1 with a slight tummy, I can't tuck either. Hope this helps! 😊
I'm 5'1 and most of the petite jeans are too short and petite shirt sleeves are too short. Alot of times I have to shop in the junior department to find a good fit even though I'm old. 😁
How about we wear over size jacket with crops n mom jeans or something.. Thats what i mostly wears but my brother always says it makes me smaller in oversize jacket..
Remember . Pettit means short, not skinny. So if you are pettit and hourglass and on the heavy side...all of these will make things go bad...especially tucking in a shirt.
I have to laugh, the other day I bought a large TH bag on sale, I asked another woman for her opinion & she gave me bad advice🤣 I had a feeling it was too big for me😂
LOL! Thats so funny! I feel like any random person you ask at the store they won't be totally honest because they don't really know you lol! But large bags are okay if you have specific use for it :) like traveling or if your a mom or if you need to bring lots to work! but for everyday type of bag, small- medium is best :)
I agree. I have a sister who's petite too but she's a plus size so I think she can pull it off better than me😉I went back yesterday & found another TH bag, not as wide, in gray & grabbed it for me😊
I am 4 ft 7 in and weigh 160 lbs. Dwarf. What to do with the large tops? Too much material to tuck in. Also I wear long skirts and dresses because my legs are scared and ugly. Any suggestions??
Actually Levi has a mid rise straight that comes up a smidge above mid-rise for me (petite but short waisted) extremely comfortable and scored on sale. I no longer spend$$$ on the expensive $150.00-$200 range. They also come in about 4 different washes of Denim colors.
Happy Thursday! Thank you for watching todays video. Let me know if you'd like to see more videos like these!
Elana Kinda yes more petite fashion, where to shop etc...
Awesome!! I will do more videos like these!
I don’t think I agree with you with regard to wearing coat. Wearing shorter coat would cut you shorter unless you are wearing same colour as your trousers or jeans.wearing long coat is ok as long as it is not loose.
Your are looking stunning 😚
Yep please ❤️
Hi could you maybe send the channel's name for pear body shaped here? Thanks!
Petites have child proportions.

Cropped top with High waisted jeans. Works for me. 5'1".
Same!! I’m 5’1 and I exclusively wear high waisted jeans/skirts and cropped tops and sweaters!
yess
Definitely agree with the long coat point! I am 5’3”, and my lower legs are shorter. I look better with shorter dress/skirt too, anything past my knee just make my legs look chubby.
yes!! I feel the exact same way!

So right! Also as a general rule one color monochromatice does miracles

Great news !!!. Not long drawn out. Us mom's need a short version. You are adorable. I'm elderly, hint hint. 😜
Great tips. Very helpful. Please more videos for a petite person.👌❣
Awh! Thank you! Will come out with more :)
Can you share more tips about Skirts and Office dresses? Thank you

Melissa Klare That’s a good idea!! I will look into that :) I’m super picky when it comes to styling mom jeans for a petite! Haha
Hi, new subscriber here from Philippines. I love those tips, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for subscribing :)
I’m 4’11 this helped a lot
You have such incredible videos. Thanks for this one, so helpful!
Thank you so much! :)
Thanx for the tips 🌟. You have a new subscriber 💞
Loved the tips. Can hardly believe that u are a mom.
sowmya Sharma thank you!! ❤️ & sometimes I can hardly believe it myself 🤣🙈
My legs are short of course and so is my torso,
Having a belly and weight around hips, I don't like to really tuck tops in. I feel wearing a top (it's not baggy) out does cover that tummy (very hard to lose at my age) .
It is very hard to find capri's though. All the shorts at my local stores are shorts all above the knee (even on me.)
Thank you so much.. very useful video because am a petite woman.. super like.
Good luck petite ladies.
let's make Stample round of applause for every single petite lady in the world
Thank you for this tips and ideas...im 4'11girl thats why i really need this videos......see u around
Thank you for this vedio i'm 4'8 and its hard to style my body so short..
So helpful! I am 5” too
Im 5 foot 1 so this is helpful thanks....pictures could be bigger so us with glasses can see outfits better.
I am 5 foot and am looking for a camel color coat and there it was - a pic on the left when you were addressing coat lengths. Do you happen to know brand or where I can get one very similar to that? Thank you and really enjoy your info for us petites!!
Great advice.
My jaw dropped when you mentioned you are a mum xx
Same. 😅😅😅
omgg...adavantages of petite girls
"Five-foot-four," oh man, what I'd do for those extra 2 inches!!! lol.
Lol Im 5'4" but I wish I was atleast 5'6"
I’m 5’2” I don’t really have a problem with my height. I like feeling small next to my man. Gives me the chance to wear heals and still feel small with my honey
Hey Elena.. I like your videos on petite dressing tips. Can you please make some videos for dress options without tucking in the short/top. Maybe for tunic tops. Thanks a lot.
Hey!! Yes! I get lots of requests for that so I’ll try to incorporate it in future petite dressing videos :)
@@ElanaKinda Thanks a lot.
What about length of a maxi dress for petite height women? Just purchased 1st one this week and it needs hemmed (of course) so not dragging on floor. Should hem line be above my ankle like pants or just slightly above floor length. And what is the best type of shoe to wear with a maxi dress?
A late commer to your channel, a very useful tips thanks😘
You're beautiful😊😊 ..and your video's. Too....love from InDiA🇮🇳💙💙
Great tips for petite gals like me💕
5’2” here! Love ur channel!
Ahhh thank you!!!
Totally agree about the coats and even long sweaters. I’m 5’4 and can get away with some petite no no’s but when I wear long coats/cardigans I look like I have on a bathrobe. Secondly, I’m short waisted and finding mid rise jeans is so hard.
omg! thats literally the best way to explain long coats and cardigans.. bathrobes lol!! and try checking out madewell! they're pricy but high quality and have sales somtimes (you can also find their jeans at nordstrom or nordstrom rack too) and they have lots of options for mid rise :) high waisted is more "trendy/popular" so retailers carry this style more right now
What if you have a mum tum how do you hide that sticks out when tick t-shirts in
Iam only 5ft.
Glad I found this site!!
I just received my new bag!
But....it swallow me!!!
Thanks for heads up on size of bags!!!
I am petit , long coats make petit appear taller and it protects my legs from cold too.
Hi Elana, thanks for your channel. Just wondering what your background is? Are you a stylist? Education?
Do you think you should tuck even if you have larger volume in your upper halve?
Love the tips, but as a personal preference, I also love wearing oversized and baggy shirts lol, I really don't mind looking 12 or cute
Thats great! definitely rock it girlfriend!! I'm all for wearing whatever makes you happy and feel best! Personal style is just that, personal! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
Thank you for this video, 5f1 here !
Glad it helped! ❤️
This is great!
Can't tuck I have a tummy. Any suggestions?
Tie the shirt into a knot but not at the waist, but tie it at mid hip, it will cover a belly and not look baggy. That's what I do and it looks great that way. Also I sometimes belt a shirt at the waist and it forms a peplum, covers the tummy and looks really put together. BTW, I'm 5'1 with a slight tummy, I can't tuck either. Hope this helps! 😊
What about tote bags? Can you suggest hand bags where I can fit a laptop.
I'm 5'1 and most of the petite jeans are too short and petite shirt sleeves are too short. Alot of times I have to shop in the junior department to find a good fit even though I'm old. 😁
High waisted jeans are good for petites with long torsos. It balances things out
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
for me i always make sure that when i wear shorts, they're over the knee so my legs can look longer. 5'1 btw
How about we wear over size jacket with crops n mom jeans or something.. Thats what i mostly wears but my brother always says it makes me smaller in oversize jacket..
Thank you for your help ❤️
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for this
Remember . Pettit means short, not skinny. So if you are pettit and hourglass and on the heavy side...all of these will make things go bad...especially tucking in a shirt.
I'm 5'2 and I'm skinny but I really love oversized clothes 💔 what should I do
Just try to balance your top half and bottom half of you if you wear an oversized sweater try to wear like slim pants or something. Hope this helps 😊
@@naomia472 thanks ☺️
I have to laugh, the other day I bought a large TH bag on sale, I asked another woman for her opinion & she gave me bad advice🤣 I had a feeling it was too big for me😂
LOL! Thats so funny! I feel like any random person you ask at the store they won't be totally honest because they don't really know you lol! But large bags are okay if you have specific use for it :) like traveling or if your a mom or if you need to bring lots to work! but for everyday type of bag, small- medium is best :)
I agree. I have a sister who's petite too but she's a plus size so I think she can pull it off better than me😉I went back yesterday & found another TH bag, not as wide, in gray & grabbed it for me😊
Eliza Rodriguez awesome 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 😊
I am 4 ft 7 in and weigh 160 lbs.
Dwarf.
What to do with the large tops?
Too much material to tuck in.
Also I wear long skirts and dresses because my legs are scared and ugly.
Any suggestions??
Me and high waisted 🚫cannot be friends. Torso will disappear! I love and can barely find mid rise lately. 😥😬
Actually Levi has a mid rise straight that comes up a smidge above mid-rise for me (petite but short waisted) extremely comfortable and scored on sale. I no longer spend$$$ on the expensive $150.00-$200 range. They also come in about 4 different washes of Denim colors.
@@veroave57 alright! Thank you ♥️
You’re awesome!
I like this!
I'M 5'3.75" and bulky is still a huge problem! There's no getting away with it.
