  • The Cape Breton highlands in northern Nova Scotia are considered by many to be the "crown jewel" of the province. Running through this wondrous landscape is the famous Margaree River known for its majestic beauty and Atlantic Salmon. In this very special video, host Ray Plourde joins popular guide Robert Chiasson to fish for Atlantic Salmon, teach us some key angling points and highlight some of the great activities to enjoy in this drive-to region (including whiskey/scotch tasting!). Great show for all anglers and travellers!

Any salmon fishermen remember master guide Henry ( Norie) Poirier. They sad Nori knew the river better than the salmon. Proud to have been taught by the best, my Grand Father.

As a kid spending time with my grand parents at the Forks , I would swim down the river from Doyle's Bridge through the Barret pool and on to the Fork as long as no fishermen were around. Well now ,I don't know how he knew, maybe Dave Carroll the fish warden, my grandfather's neighbor . PaPa started on about the river, a lot of french , arms in the air swinging , at the end he had a big grin on his face shaking his head, G D kids now a day. Grand Father owned Hill Top Cabins years ago. My memories

That makes sense. Jim Logan is now a guide there. He took me out for a half-day in Aug. 2018 and I caught one salmon. As a relative noob, it was a good time.

The green machine and the carters bug are both flies commonly used here in the Miramichi in fact the carters bug was best tied by Brian freeman he always said the uglier the better

totally agree, brian was the best at tying that fly. a similar pattern that works well in labrador is the dirty bomber which salmon really hammer. Hope to try it on Margaree in future: th-cam.com/video/dubjNYVls1E/w-d-xo.html

Is it true that out of province fishers are limited by distance from the road access during part of the season in NL?

I hit this river every year with a spinner nail a few salmon and go home. Fly fishermen never see me 😘
