  • College isn't the ideal ivory tower it might have once been. These days it's more likely you'll find a high cost, low value degree that just helps you check a career box. If you want to get the most out of college, take a non-traditional path. I'll explain more near the end of the video.

    As someone in a field where I use my degree, (I have a math based Degree and work as an actuary) I still so agree with this. Of 120 college credits to graduate I use maybe 30 of those credits for my work (8 math/stats class, and two writing classes as I do have to write reports). There is so much fluff that I feel should be cut from degree's even in ones that end up being relevant to work.

      @Daniel Walker do you have any colleagues with other fields' degrees? I was interested in being an Actuary but don't have a bachelor's in math.

      @danielwalker875 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zeynubshaikh The key to being an actuary is the Actuarial exam. I've met a few career changes and heard of people with all sort of random majors. If you have a bachelors and 2-3 actuarial exams you are able to get into the field.

    There is a problem when college costs so much yet the average college graduate makes the same as an average skilled tradesman yet the trades man doesn’t carry around the college student loans… where I work, truck drivers make on average $90,000 a year and they can’t find enough of them!

    College is for attaining knowledge and debating, but now that is ending. Most degrees do not lead to direct employment with your respective degree.

      Yeah, I didn't even talk about that very much, but with so many people having bachelor's degrees, it's harder to be competitive.

    Good day from New York!!! I love this video I wish I could give this video a hundred likes seriously.. Ladies and gentlemen it is not hard to understand why college is so expensive. Take a look at the Ivy League colleges and take a look at who is on the board of directors of these colleges very simple and some of these parents aren’t too busy living through their children, helping their children get into debt, if you are going to an Ivy League college to just study English for your undergrad and come out with a debt of $300,000 and then you are a serious fool …. with colleges that have regional accreditation like Western Governors University, charter Oaks, State College, Thomas Edison, UMPI. There is no reason for anyone to be spending an excessive amount of money at a brick and water school unless you are going for a very technical degree like nursing physician assistant, MD

    If you take a look at Western Governors, IT degrees, and the certifications that come with it, nobody so far has a far superior program online didn’t Westin governors as far as IT degrees, not even your brick and mortar schools

    I have enjoyed your content in this channel but this video is a lot one sided. I think people need a variety of areas of knowledge, to understand life, and others. College is expensive, but if you are taking advantage of the resources provided by the institution, you get your money’s worth. Some a predatory so stay away from those. Most expensive colleges have faculty members that provide a specialized experience and expertise to provide some of the most unique courses that can only be taken at those institutions. But, if you don’t care about learning anything other than the classes you want to take, that is why the associates degree comes in, boot camps, certifications, training, etc.
    Just be smart about figuring out what you see yourself doing for 30 years. And don’t be afraid to change paths…

    • @CollegeHacked
      @CollegeHacked  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good advice about not being afraid to change paths! In the old days college was more like you described, where the process of learning helped students grow. But now the vast majority of degrees are earned online and that social dynamic is removed, leaving a lot of pointless fluff work of low quality. That’s what has made way for hacking. If schools were still affordable and valuable intrinsic experiences, we wouldn’t exist. Unfortunately the market is broken and much of the value degrees once offered in their traditional form is gone.
