Wow thanks alot cliff. I actually surprised my self and worked quite alot out just from your cover. There were a few little bits I couldn't work out but this covers them really nicely. You've really helped me alot with learning guitar. I owe alot of my success to you. Can't thank you enough.
There is of course the Bobby part that syncs up. The solo is all E mixolydian... you can improvise to your hearts desire in the jam. Bobby starts the main lick up on 7th fret and it harmonizes with Jerry. There is also an entire instrumental part to the song which is a key element.... the basic framework is here but a lot more to this. Following the arrangement from Without A Net is good framework.
this has been an amazing learning tool for me...i'm a mediocre guitarist with a seemingly dead pinky...but i've picked up so many good riffs and grooves to adapt to my own way of playing....i've watched this over and over and will continue to until i've mastered it....thanks a million...love your playing style
@@JesseStutsman The pinky is hard for everyone... John mayer's hand are so big that rather than use his pinky he stretches the ring finger and avoids learning pinky technique, but it is worth it as a deadhead because it informs the Garcia style... he leads with the pinky... I can show you on Skype if that doesn't make sense...
@@vedantus i didn't know that about john mayer...i'll have to check out his technique next time i'm watching a dead and company show....i totally get what you are saying....i've watched so many jerry technique videos and i really should start trying to adopt this method...thanks again
Hey Cliff rewatching often as my starting line way close to beginning but got some stuff, and asking if you play out etc. love to hear this live… pretty much a top fave from JJG … and as fortitude appears to be my only musical gift re watch is a must 😂 got the 1st rift but the 2nd a work to follow… big thanks, Liam, North of Boston
Hey man! I just wanna say that you’ve helped me out so much with my guitar playing in all aspects especially with my fav band! I was introduced last summer by my buddies to the Dead and it’s utterly and completely changed my life for good prolly! I’m 22 years old and I’m gonna be ripping this kind of stuff for years to come! Keep it up man thank you so much you’re the GOAT Cliff!!
Great stuff, Cliff. Birdsong is a favorite and I have worked on it a lot and really tried to become proficient because there is a lot to explore and learn and develop in the song; but I got to a bit of a plateau. Only got to the “just ok; yeah, that sounds like birdsong point”. Excited to dig in and study this one more - you show all the little bit of spice and color that really make it birdsong. Thanks - this one is really helpful!
Yes, that describes my journey as well, I had a first position riff, simple strums etc. I sometimes have a hard time letting go fo the old way I did things!
@@hazwaz6385 I can say more later but as a start try jamming in first position E, but add your pinky on the second fret , third string, strum that, then release it and strum the E
Hey Cliff! You have helped me so much the last 8 months stuck at home. Feel like my playing has improved for the first time in years. Any chance you can do deep elm? Thanks!
Clif you are amazing! Thank you for all the guitar lessons!
It all keeps advancing for all of us!

The main theme riff can be played without pinky in first position

Nice work Brother! You definitely have your finger on the pulse of the song, and very helpful, Thanks! How about one on New Speedway Boogie?
I have been playing that with my band and just need to resolve the darkness got to give part and then will post
Thanks for the lesson, happened to be what I was working on this evening and has some nice licks I hadn't learned yet.
Serendipity!
Cant believe i just found out about you bro! Thank you!

Good idea!
Thank you Clif!
Thank You!
such a bobby riff, played the way he hits it
Love the name Delphina!
This is GREAT! I think you have Jdarks beat lol.
We are all on this bus together! I use him and grateful guitar lessons a lot along the way!
During the verse, the E vamp chord should be an Eadd9. Song is E mixolydian (key of Amaj).
Thank you sir!
What would this be?

@@hazwaz6385 yes, though those two start with the e and add the extra note while this starts with the extra note added and resolves to the E

Hope it adds something!
