- Rotherham is a town in South Yorkshire, England. It is the largest settlement in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. Rotherham is named after the River Rother, one of two major rivers (the other being the River Don) to flow through the town.
Before the Industrial Revolution, traditional industries included farming, glass making and flour milling. In the late 18th and 19th centuries, Rotherham became known for its coal mining and, later, steel industries.
The town's historic county is Yorkshire, and Rotherham once formed part of the West Riding of Yorkshire administrative county. In 1974, this administrative county was abolished during a reorganisation of local government. Subsequently, Rotherham became part of the county of South Yorkshire, where it makes up one of four metropolitan boroughs.
I went along to see what the Town centre is like today..

Nice tour of Rotherham. Well done on the sneaky park. Lovely blossoms. Lots of shutters but maybe that is because it’s a Sunday, some very interesting architecture. A very worthy place to visit. Love the art gallery. ❤
Thanks...it really seemed like spring was here....but today i had to scrape ice off the car windows and this afternoon it has been raining heavy for 5 hours...just as things were beginning to dry out...lets hope for some mud free paths this weekend.

Look at those marvelous signs of spring!! Blooms and leaves on the great go! Seems like you hit a quiet part of town or an equally quiet time of day. Pretty nice for sure! Maybe everyone was at the fair...awesome!!

Know Rotherham very well from earlier days. Used to visit someone living in that area and often went into that park.

I've never visited Rotherham, but it was not what I imagined. There is lots of great architecture in the town centre and the park looked impressive.

I live in Rotherham though originally from the Black Country. I live about 5 minutes walk from Clifton Park. The park itself is beautiful, a lot of the surrounding area is not...

It is great Steven to see the towns up in your neck of the woods, especially with the lovely spring blossom and fresh leaves on the trees. Sometimes its nice going somewhere without having researched it and seeing what you can find. There looks to be some beautiful parts of the town, but also a dodgy part or two, but doesn't every town!

Very nice tour of Rotherham Steven, I watched as I ate my porridge breakfast. Colourful park, mixed new and old city dwellings and even a fun fair, how good is that? Yes very nice indeed and could only be bettered by the inclusion of Karen. Cheers Mike. 👍🍺

The park looks large with lots to do. Love the blossom. We enjoy a Sunday walk. Thank you for showing us around. It's a town we've never been too. Was interesting to see. Always like to explore different towns. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

Looked lovely here and with interesting history. Loved the blossom trees akf the park is great for families with the funfair and crazy golf and train, skatepark and museum. Nice look around and it looks like you enjoyed the drink at the pub too 🙂 ~ Anna

Never been to Rotherham and it looks better than I expected. Those blossoms help out tho. Great looking church and tidy centre👍
Thanks Paul...it's not bad to be fair...the town centre has been dying for years thanks to the close proximity of Meadowhall and Parkgate shopping centres but it is hanging on in there [ just ]
Looks like the park &museum were the best bits Stephen..the bandstand &children’s area were great 😊..but it was more quieter in that town then most towns on a Sunday ..I think there should be a none car day &on a Sunday …but I’ll probably get slated for saying that 😂..thanks steven for sharing your day 😊

Maybe just because it was a Sunday, but Rotherham looked like it had seen better days and wasn't quite sure how to get them back....PS Nothing wrong with John Smiths, but I prefer Sam's if there's a choice.
