The only manager to win a World Series in both leagues. He brought me such joy when he was the manager of the "Bless You Boys" 1984 Detroit Tigers. They went 35 - 5 in their first 40 games. Went from start to finish in 1st place. Beat the Padres 4 games to 1. Yeah, those were my Tigers. Don't forget the years of the "Big Red Machine" either!
Actually, Tony LaRussa has also won the World Series in both leagues as well: with Oakland and St. Louis. But The Main Spark was the first to win the World Series in both leagues.
Pete Rose should be in HOF too. He WAS the Reds. I loved Sparky and entire Big Red Machine but Pete was heart and soul of them. Whatever he did later doesn't take anything away from his record or accomplishments. He was Charlie Hustle and earned his place in HOF.
Totally. He was the straw the stirred the drink with the Reds. Without Rose, the Reds would have more like the Atlanta Braves rather the Big Red Machine. I saw the Reds play in 1977 at Candelstick and it was clear he was the dominant player on the field. Probably top 15 or top 10 player of all-time.
The reds are lucky he didnt tell them to kiss his ass for firing him, but he has to much class and he loved the reds, thats why he is wearing their hat in the the hall of fame
No way, Bob Howsam of the Reds gave him his start as a manager with the Reds in 1970 at age 35. Sparky managed and molded the Big Red Machine and took them to the World Series FOUR times, wining two, in nine years. Sparky loved Cincinnati as his second home and was always glad to come back. The Cincinnati fans always have and will see Sparky as the best and favorite manager of all time and Sparky always knew it completely. Sparky was always going into the HOF as a Cincinnati Red FIRST, no doubt whatsoever.
jimmy koplin he is wearing the reds gear only because he was blackballed in Detroit for not managing scab replacement players. He made many references of wearing the English D into Cooperstown if he was lucky enough to get there. Tigers management screwed up the sparky plaque..
His Biggest Mistake was Trading Tony Perez That Broke Down The Machine & Got him Fired .If the Reds Don't trade Perez Then, you never hear about the Yankees of the Late 70s .the Big Red Machine was Just to much to handle Everyone in Baseball 6 NL MVPs In 8 Years Bench 70/72 Rose 73 Morgan 75/76 & Foster 77 Incredible !!
Sparky was more wise than many. His speech was terrible in terms of grammar, but full of insight. He's still The Main Spark here in Cincinnati and in Detroit. He had great players on both teams, but he got the absolute best out of them, to the tune of 3 World Series Championships.
he was the most over rated manager ever. he won with the Reds when any manager could have. the 84 Tiger's overachieved, and he never won again. and he would say the dumbest things all the time.
That is a real man. Being humble about your accomplishments IN life and knowing that others helped you get there. :-)
Thank you Sparky . I'll never forget being that 21 year old kid watching the Tigers win the World series. You were a class act Sir .
Donald Merriweather - I was a 31 yr old “kid” watching Sparky win the ‘84 World Series.
Kirk Gibson hit his “other homer run” in that series. Amazing off of a 100mph Goose Gossage fastball
I was a 22 year old kid in the Detroit area watching them win.
No don't want to walk him.
that's class right there. humble, respects the ledgends past & present and people who helped him become so great. R.I.P Sparky.
I love this guy, what a great ambassador for baseball. His players loved him, that is the highest compliment.
He was a real gentleman!
A true gentleman...a great manager...taught lifes lessons.
sparky was such a boss!!
Best manager ever.
What an awesome man, he grew up only 35 miles from me and yes there were tough times.
We can all learn a lot from Sparky. His tremendous moral character and grace as a person is what everyone should strive for.
Glad to see no trolls disliked this. Sparky was the best!
Sparky was “The Man” back then. He absolutely loved and bled baseball. He was a good man.
GREAT MAN...GREAT MANAGER.
The greatest baseball coach of all time. A true legend
To me Sparky is one of the greatest MLB manager in sports history......WOW!! What a beautiful human being 🙌

@@docadams7099 You are correct Daniel, I stand corrected.

That’s true, but LaRussa doesn’t hold a candle to Sparky!
The most underrated manager in the history of the game
Pete Rose should be in HOF too.

@@mikem591 he broke the rules and he's paying for it, that is a great example for kids
@@gerrydooley951 Maybe as a manager but he was the hardest-working man in baseball as a player!
A true man...Praise God for Sparky..
Legend. Only way to say it
Spark acknowledged BASEBALL as THE GAME!
Awesome speech through and through
One of the best things the Detroit Tigers ever did was to hire Sparky as the manager in the early 1980s!
This is great.
We were Blessed when Sparky came to Detroit.
And we went downhill fast in Cincy once he left. But were we blessed when he managed here. Glad he brought you that WS Championship!
Tremendo manager de aquellos famosos tigres de Ditrot
Billy Martin. Sparky Anderson. Best ever.
Walking Morgan to get to Bench?
Didn't work out very well did it?
Amen sparky miss you God speed
My grandma loved that man
The reds are lucky he didnt tell them to kiss his ass for firing him, but he has to much class and he loved the reds, thats why he is wearing their hat in the the hall of fame
jimmy koplin he should have gone in as a tiger since he managed 17 years in Detroit and only 9 in Cincy

My man sparky
I heard Sparky in an interview say "can you imagine the record I would have had if I had good players" and then proceeded to laugh.
My best Sparky moment was when they had a microphone on him, They brushed back Tony Perez, Sparky says “Make that SOB mad!
The greatest!!!
Sparky was always my father

That and not starting Griffey and Foster in 1973..74...we would won four straight world series
I seen him in 95 Sept, he came to Yankee stadium for a double hitter. Yanks won both games I believe. The first time I seen Sparky and Cecil Fielder.

Greatest manager tigers ever hsd
96 wins in 78 and dick Wagner fucked the city and the reds up!! he went to Detroit and kicked ass!!
Dave Bristol always called wagner blade cause he would cut you
9:00 really wish Trump had Sparky Anderson's dad.
why did Sparky retire?
They just don't make them like that anymore.
he can never thank people apparently lol
Hey Kaisersoza…you shouldn’t drink before you say something so stupid
