WP suggested $1300 a month as minimal wage. It is said that this is the amount need to survive in SG. I think they gotten the data from Avg Household Expenditure for Basic Necessities, I'm not sure about this.
According to MOM calculations of hourly wage for employee that drawing monthly wage:
    (Monthly wage x 12) / (52 x 44)
    $1300 a month = $15600 a year
    52 weeks a year, 44 working hours.
    $15600/52/44 = $6.81
With minimum wage of $1300/mth. Employers need to pay $6.81/hr to part timers. Up to people to think that is $6.81 too much for some jobs. I'm not sure why is it reasonable to have jobs that can't even pay the basic living allowance.

@@96515325 definitely there is a lot to consider that we might not know. through their debate mostly I see is that it will lead to unemployment. As for why it will lead to unemployment I have no idea.
If it is because business cannot pay their worker living wage, then maybe there should be some subsidies from the government if that company is worth helping. Like the progressive wage model.
But if the business not worth helping and can't even pay the basic living expenses of it's workers, I feel maybe the company shouldn't even exist in long run. Of course this will mean unemployment rate will go up. Maybe like what mdm gan says, is better to have a job (that can't really support yourself) than not having one. I guess this is why wp talk about dignified job.
I personally feel mw is to protect employee from being exploit by company

I believe majority of the beneficiaries for minimum wage policy are the elderly that are doing non-contract part time jobs. To be frank, companies have no incentive to offer contract positions for elderly because of the potential employee's protection and insurance.
Quoting from MOM website "A part-time employee is one who is under a contract of service to work less than 35 hours a week." and "Wages and PWM bonus for part-time workers will be pro-rated."
In my limited experience, part-timers usually do not sign contracts for the job (unless its an established company/MNC) and works in an informal arrangement. So I believe this is a possible loophole for companies to take advantage of elderly giving them low wages.
This may be why there might be a case to argue for minimum wage. What do you all think?
