I remember when NE were young and the comparison was made between them and the Temptations. I can't believe I actually got a chance to see them peform the Temptations classics. This is an Awesome! Great Performance!!!!
No, they were mainly compared to J5! RT was MJ. However, the Temptations were the predesesors & much better as a group than J5 & had a much longer career span. MJ was the only successful solo artist from the group. Therefore, as a whole, both TEMPTATIONS & NEW EDITION were far Superior than J5. Nobody wants to hear Tito, Randy, Jacky, Marlon, maybe Jermaine, but see where his lead to, a dead end. I was actually rooting for him when MJ & Prince was on top. As Solo Artists, besides BOBBY BROWN, theirs were much more prominent, in terms of longevity, due to B.B's recklessness. He would've been up there with MICHAEL JACKSON, an icon! B.B. is still 1 to me, a LEGEND, as well as the rest of N.E. As a whole SUPER GROUP, their all ICONS in my eyes!!!! 👌👀✌💯

No Doubt, The Temps are the Greatest, end of story. But since this is NE's video i'm gonna give due to one of the most underrated groups in music history. NE never gets any recognition. Their pioneer's in their own right. Pop & RnB w/ a hip hop edge. NE and Force MD's are the foundation for what would later be known as New Jack Swing and for what RnB sounds like today. NE is the bridge from the old school groups to todays groups. That's why NE are the ones today who could do this tribute.
Johnny Gill was a great addition to New Edition, he took their sound from the bubble gum pop to real grown folk R&B, and he definitely appears to be less trouble than Bobby Brown
New Edition might not have 5 quality singers like the Temptations, but live they do sing all there songs and backgrounds. They are indeed some good singers don't be fool by this performance.
After reading your comment I went back and watched about 5 live performances of the Temptations singing my girl.I fail to see how Ralph was out of his element at and your right about Johnny he took this song to a higher plateau than the Temptations even did.I may be biased cause I really love N.E. but i tried to be unbias and I love those old songs but I just thought not only did they sound better but their showmanship is on a whole other level than the Temptations were.

bobby brown is david ruffin lol after seeing this. i love the medley they do but he tried to take my girl somewhere it didn't need to go. he over sold it in my opinion. and it shows in get ready cuz his voice sounds way to gravel trying to catch up till the very end of get ready. this shows just how talented they are. i would have loved to see bobby though.
@Crazyonepro You are right. Both Johnny and Bobby have very different vocal styles and skills. I would love to have seen the six of them do this performance since The New Edition has always been styles after the temps, the jackson five and blue magic. Bobby has always been considered the David Ruffin of New Edition just based upon the fact David and Bobby have a similar attitude as people and showmanship as performers.
