Hey Sandman, its been alittle while. I started watching your channel about 11 months ago(your eschelon set review or unboxing was my first video), and a couple months after that, I had to take a long break from picking. I just came back a couple of days ago when i looked at my set and remembered your channel. So i started watching your videos again to see how things were going. Needless tk say im back and have just picked my first american lock 1100. Just wanted to say hello and thanks for making such excellent videos. And thanks for bringing me back it feels good.
@@mikemar42 thanks. Every now and then I get lucky and snag one of their limited edition camo sets. Been meaning to build this one for a few months now
Hey well done! I’ve wanted to make one of these for 3 years now, though I was thinking electric toothbrush. A pumpkin carver is probably the better one to use for this. Happy Halloween bud. I hope that things are going well.
This is hilarious! I actually built one of these, about exactly a year ago, after acquiring a pumpkin saw last year on clearance. It's design is very similar to yours. I should've patented this bish😅😂
Genuine question, why do you seemingly hate Sparrows so much? I mean, on their website they claim the yield strength of their Cold MAX steel is 280,000 PSI, where as the yield strength of 301 high yield is 270,000 PSI (aka they are most likely using the exact same thing). Sure, they make some gimmicky shit, but so do half the other manufacturers (I.e. McNally’s recent kit from Covert Instruments is a perfect example) and I know Sparrows don’t make top of the top quality tools, buy they aren’t charging top of the top prices either. Just to be clear, I’m not saying your opinion isn’t valid or anything like that (for all I know Sparrows QC could have taken a massive dump in the last year or the owner kicks cats for fun or whatever), but just curious as to why the hate as they have been some of my go to tools for the last ~10 years.
@@bear4278 genuine answer, watch my sparrows reviews. There is no such thing as cold max steel. It’s a made up marketing term. Their tools are not 301HY. Their tools have not changed since 2010 when I first started collecting them. The first 301HY didn’t show up on the market until 2016. These tools are not that. Everyone in the industry knows that. Except you. I get it, you like sparrows tools. If they work for you then great. There’s your answer.
You are correct. There is no such thing as “Cold MAX”, but there is S30100 which can be found in ASTM standard A666 - 10 and it is listed as having a tensile strength of 270,000 PSI. That standard was approved in 2010. Edit sorry, tensile of 270,000 and yield of 260,000. Got my columns mixed up 😋
@ it is also possible they are lying 🤷🏻♂️ use what you want. That’s what I do. Dont worry about what other people think. Buy all the picks and figure out what works for you. You will eventually come to the conclusion that some companies and people are just full of crap. It’s a Bird’s eye view that you can’t yet see. Thanks for watching. Please stop commenting.
@@sandman_locksport That is definitely possible too and I completely agree with you mate 😊 My kit is a mix of the picks I like probably half a dozen different companies (Sparrows, Peterson, Multipick, Mad Bob’s, etc.) so I’m definitely not a die hard Sparrows fanboy or anything. There are also plenty of companies I flat out will not buy from and there absolutely are a plenty of Sparrows products I would tell people to avoid like the plague too (what they did with boring out the cylinders on the newer revolver to make it easier to pick should be a damn crime)😊 All that said, my point is that I think Sparrows are a good option for any “budget minded” (I think you call them “Timmy” and “little Tim”) beginner to intermediate level pickers (especially if they are from outside the US where international shipping comes into play) and I worry you might be unintentionally putting some of those people off picking when some Sparrows picks would be plenty good enough for them until they hit maybe “purple belt” (hell, I have even opened a couple of “red belt” level locks with just my Sparrows picks - Bilock and Ermhart). All in all, they offer a really good range of profiles at pretty cheap prices and they work well (they are definitely 1000X better than the old Goso kit everyone used to buy when they were starting out back in the day 🤣) so I like to think they are a “cheap and cheerful” but “professional grade” option that maybe only 10% of pickers will start to outgrow 😊
That was a super fun video, I want to try it 😁
i love my Aero lower.... great video brother
Cool vid. I have an Aero lower too. They are the best for defending equality!
