Yo, I played this song at my best friend's funeral. I had all my gear all the way up, fuck blow it up. My boy Sean sang. We didn't have a drummer though, because my drummer was in the casket behind me. Shit broke me. It's been 12 years, and I still have a few pieces to put back together.
Damn man that’s tough. Gave me chills reading it. Hope everything’s alright.
It blows my mind that this album is 30 years old. I remember buying it when it came out. It was and still is some of the heaviest music made.
Then Far Beyond Driven dropped and made it look like nursery rhymes
I know there's faster, angrier, darker sounding music out there but Pantera's music is heavy on another level.
@@sendnoodles5437 Then The great southern trendkill dropped and made Far beyond driven sound like a lullaby.
@@Petteriks th-cam.com/video/jST1zrU3iJQ/w-d-xo.html then their later concerts almost knocked earth out of fucking orbit
Top 3 metal bands of all time.. if not no.1 !
Time flys
They are building up the story in this ballad, I love it so much. The first half is all about the sadness he’s enduring due to the loss of his friend, then the second half represents the feelings of rage that come from it. Such a powerful way to represent the stages of grief simply through a song.
I love the breakdown in the middle, it’s like you can envision the second that he hit that next stage of grief. Mad at the world for being so unjust and mad at God (which whether reasonable or not, many people endure in that stage). He says in his rage “He as hollow as I’m alone” being that his friend is no longer there, and he now has to endure life without him.
Many people interpret this song as either his friend was in a coma in the beginning, in active addiction, or in the final stages of depression. He says “No one knows what’s done is done, it’s as if he were dead” showing that his friend is already gone before even dying. He talks to his friend’s mother, thinks back over how they just spoke about their futures together, and is going through the sheer sadness of the situation…Then boom, you hear the switch from sadness to internal rage that he’s no longer there. So powerful to me.
I lost my dad almost 3 years ago and to this day I can’t help but tear up and cry to this song. This was his fav pantera song. Rip terry raymond 1956-2020
Sorry for your loss brother. RIP
sorry for your loss bro may he rest in peace
Dude, you are fire! I'm so glad to see people going back "to my day" and see what we were listening to and in some cases creating ourselves. The 80s and 90s were sick for metal. Dig your channel, subbed and loved! Keep up the journey.
Listen to these 2 songs, Avoid the Light and Immortally Insane. 2 previously unreleased tracks, perhaps 2 of their best, towards then end of the breakup. Both songs were on a separate movie soundtracks.
Back in 99 I had an amazing car stereo with 2 x12's in my little Mazda coupe and omg....this sounded sooooo amazing. Oh the memories. Thank u for doing the pantera reactions. Keeps me young 🤣🤣🤣
Classic! No problem!
Its a strange thing about metal. An all acoustic song with no harsh vocals can still be metal. I don't know how, but it can.
if you like good rock acoustic, listen to Seether unplugged.
Keep the discography journey going!
It's about his best friend being in a coma i believe
This album.
My lord....what a masterpiece.
There’s a secret last track that got released 20 years after the release of this album called “Piss”. Definitely check it out before moving on to the next album!👍🏼
I love that song. It is like a mix of a few of their other songs with different lyrics. What a freaking fantastic idea and their execution of it was top notch, as usual. I second your recommendation @BlackTooth9606
React to the underground in America by Pantera
He’ll get to it eventually, seems like he’s going through the albums in order
the brief solo in mid part is one of the most beautiful things i ever heard in like 20 years listening heavy metal
from what I can tell its about his friend who could be in a coma, I dont know if something could've inspired it but it's a great song
simply one of the greatest songs ever dimebag was a fucking beast vince on the drums is just fucking insane phil is so soul crushing make you want to cry type singer such a great song
I am kinda in the same boat. I do love the heavy pantera songs but I really don't enjoy the heavy switch up in this one.
I Love this song
Bad ass tune !🤟✌️🤘✌️🤟🤘the seconds half is the organism of the jam
Lords unmatched!
Glad you are here because this is revalent NOW!
High and got the cassette tape. Blown away!!
A friend of Phil’s was in a car accident and it’s on that. At least according to Phil himself
I wait it for a long time
Cool comment. Cool BLACK dude!
I dont think its in real life but, the song is about his best friend in a coma. Hollow hence coma, hes just a shell hollow inside.
I definitely think it was real life. This and cemetery gates had specific and different ppl in mind
this song had better be played at my funeral. I will haunt mofos if it isn't, lol
I honestly don’t know, could be drug addictions, sold his soul, idk (he was asking what the song was about, I’m new to painters so plz don’t hate me if I’m wrong just correct me 😭😭😭)
It's a about a friend in a coma, he's there, but hollow
It’s so important to make best friends in life…
The song is about his best friend being hooked on heroin.
no. best friend fell into a coma
