What makes people think that Bama isn't going to reload with transfer players from Washington, Arizona, Michigan and maybe even a player or two from South Alabama? For that matter, when Harbaugh leaves, it will just continue the chain reaction and other schools will be in the 30 day special transfer portal window so who knows how much talent will be on the table? And maybe one or more of Saban's companies ponies up the cash needed.
I think he meant Ray Perkins was the guy, not Bryant, and that you want to be the guy that replaces the guy that replaced the legend but you don't want to be the guy that replaced the legend.
We're in a different era. Alabama fans were obsessed with hiring one of "Bear's guys", a former player or coach (or both) and had a hard on for anybody who was perceived as an outsider. And the boosters were running the program. After the success of Saban, who was an outsider, I didn't hear a word from anybody about how his successor had to be one of his guys.
Interesting take on why Saban is still at the University - promises to players - but seems like a secondary reason. Only reasons I can think of is to become CFB Commissioner or continue participating in recruiting. Recruiting is a real passion for The GOAT! However, BAMA haemorrhaging too many talents so maybe he's not getting involved, yet???
Why he's still at the university? Because he's said they're still going to live in Tuscaloosa, at least for a good chunk of the year. Because he's not the type to retire and do nothing. Because he cares about the kids he recruited who are going to still be there and wants to see them succeed. Because he worked hard for 17 years building the program to where it is now and wants to see a high standard maintained. Because the administration has always been loyal and supportive of him and he wants to be loyal to them. Because his two kids graduated from the university. Because the guys who played for him still care about the university and the football program and a lot of them return on a regular basis. And there are probably a dozen more reasons.
@@Don-md6wn I'm not sure several of those have any real value or contribution to the reason. As well, other's he's already failing on if they are reasons. Still others he will need DeBoer's 👍 to happen or risk creating a poor working environment. Are any of the other dozen of any real value?
Does anybody think Alabama's new staff isn't going to be able to fill holes out of the transfer portal after spring practice? If you're a DB, you might be able to come in and start, and play TV games against Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU, etc. If you're a WR, you look at what DeBoer's offenses did at Washington (three 1000+ yard receivers last season) and a year of Jalen Milroe at QB probably followed by Sayin, with the WR position coach and OC from Washington. If you're an offensive lineman, you see the OL coach from Washington whose OL just won the Joe Moore award. I'll be shocked if Alabama doesn't end up bringing in a bunch of guys who were high quality starters for other schools.

It will be interesting to watch DeBoer based on his resume and how short each stint was. Outside of coaching, when someone is job hopping every year or two, there is no way you can convince me that you actually added value to your company. It normally takes at least a year just to learn the ins-and-outs of a new company before really contributing to the bottom line. Now looking at other coaches that had quick promotions by changing schools, many once they reached that big time job fell flat. All of those quick risers never won a natty though. So his tenure will be very interesting. But beating bama now will not have the cachet that it once did.
Bama is going to see if they bought a program builder or a roster hopper real quick! He left the cupboards pretty bare at UW with low-effort high school recruiting and focusing on short-term transfers instead these last couple of years... covid eligibility had some to do with that but UW only had 15 high school commits on a team that had 22 open roster spots a day ago. They checked out and focused on maxing out this one year on the field and off to the next job. He probably thought it was Michigan (we UW fans did) but his agent played this beautifully, getting all but Lanning a nice new contract just for flirting with Bama.
- Dabo Sweeney never spent more than 3 years at any school before Clemson - Nick Saban never spent more than 4 years at any school before Alabama - Kirby Smart never spent more than one season at any school prior to Alabama. Those are 7 of the last 10 champions. Not sure your statement is well founded.

@@bethanygross13 Dabo was at bama from 1993 to 2000 (7 years). He then worked away from coaching from 2001 to 2003. In 2003 he joined Clemson and has been there ever since. Soooo.... Nick Saban was never riding a wave of one hit wonders at each stop. Kirby was at bama from 2007 to 2015. Again, never riding a wave of one it wonder stops. Lanning never got that call, y'all are trippin'. He's been a head coach for 2 years and has lost every big game he's been in. And whatever success he has is due to Phil Knight's money and the stacked roster it's bought him. Bama wouldn't hire a guy who's been a head coach for 2 years and has lost big games due to bad decisions. Lanning sold his soul to the devil. No matter what success he'll have he will not have "earned it." It'll be because of Phil Knight's money and Nike's branding. If he ever figures it out he'll leave so that he can prove himself as a coach. While Saban got away with favorable transfer rules compared to today, and paying players and being protected by his conference, the feckless NCAA, and a media looking for someone to worship. Saban last won a full championship in 2017, right before the transfer portal rules changed. Covid deserves an asterisk. Once NIL came in Bama's advantages were gone and other fanbases have more money. I guess we'll all see if Kalen DeBoer can actually build a program and win rather than inheriting something already built with a favorable roster. He's brilliant on gameday and had an amazing culture at UW but his job is 100x harder than he thought it was going to be.
LOL. Belichick is one year younger than Saban and has about 10% of Saban's personality. You think he was going to travel to the living rooms of high school kids?
The rivalry games at the end of the season are not going to matter as much with the expanded playoffs! I hope I’m wrong. The great part of college has always been that 1 loss can put you out. Now you can lose to your rival and still make the playoff. It’s going to be like basketball where nobody cares until the tournament
This coach is giving me Haskin vibes. Hiring buddies and not thinking about keeping some important coaches in place to help keep recruits and players there.
Right, like the OC buddy who ran his high powered offense, his OL buddy whose position group won the Joe Moore award, the WR coach who had 3 1000 yard receivers. Can't imagine why he would bring them.
Oh dang, too bad Bama won't be loaded up on an ridiculous amount of 4 and 5 stars so they won't have have an obvious raw talent advantage over everyone they play now.... *sheds tear*.

Thinking that the recent HC gave no one any time at all to plan for his retirement. I think Kalen is an explosive offensive coach and Alabama still has the talent ready for development. DeBoer coaching stats are very impressive 104 to 12. Kalen finds ways to develop players to their best abilities and has consistently achieved victory after victory with lesser talented players. No matter what coach was hired for the job, the end result would still be the same. Portal will open and players will leave left and right because Nick Saban retired. No need to blame that on the program or Kalen. The best thing we have working out for us, Kalen is known for developing 3 star players into playoffs contenders. Kalen is the best uprising coach of this era, and no one is giving him a chance. Any fan that believes in their program is never delusional but respected like any one else. I consider you a fake fan and an internet troll.
I think the big issue with KB is recruiting. Not his forte. I get it, small sample size but what we do see isn’t good. The portal is a tool but Saban had insane depth across the board. I do not think Bama is gonna fall off the cliff but I am curious how this goes. Defense especially.

He should stayed at Washington, I’m glad the players have a nil deal cause at the end of the day the coaches don’t care
Why does Paul continue to be a spokesman? He looks like he should already be in a casket....please people....really?
Lane Kiffin is the guy that wants the Florida job
lol Jim is getting out before they find out more on his cheating. Anyone who ask for a clause that he can’t be fired from the finding of the scandal that he was suspended 3 games for. He claimed he was innocent then why take a suspension
WA was 2 years from excellence! Amazing..yes they lost players...but
It will be interesting to watch DeBoer based on his resume and how short each stint was.
- Dabo Sweeney never spent more than 3 years at any school before Clemson
- Nick Saban never spent more than 4 years at any school before Alabama
- Kirby Smart never spent more than one season at any school prior to Alabama.
Those are 7 of the last 10 champions. Not sure your statement is well founded.
Nature of the beast
You sound like a corporate tool who knows virtually nothing about anything and didn't actually look at how long DeBoer was at Sioux Falls and the extended success he had there.
@@bethanygross13
Dabo was at bama from 1993 to 2000 (7 years).
Soooo not saying I could be wrong but you haven't proven my theory that coaches riding the very short term success wave eventually fall flat.
Please ESPN don’t ever give opinions on the Big Ten. You are all hacks
Sorry, if Sarkisian is so great, why hasn’t he won at Texas yet?
Because the jury is still out on Sark as an elite coach. Much like Kiffin, both are good. But both of them have more to do to be considered elite.
@@PoliticallyIncorrect90elite? Sark isn’t even considered a good coach yet. His own team’s fans want him removed from playcalling and say he sucks at being a head coach. He benefited from an awful big12 of 3-stars.
Kiffin is as soft as Sark, but Kiffin is a little more proven as a head coach.
Ryan Day will not be the OSU head coach 3 seasons from now.
WA coach should have stayed! smh SC guy talking..
"a full championship"? LOL, so the one in 2020 doesn't count? Friggin' idiot.
Don't expect too much for Alabama Washington could of well have been a 8---4 team last year 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Paul using 50 year old references
Sec/Ga fan.
Finepalm rode Saban's career never been a fan.
Belichick was the hire. Alabama missed. Lots of kids would be transferring in.
You must be joking. Brady isn't here.
LOL. Belichick is one year younger than Saban and has about 10% of Saban's personality. You think he was going to travel to the living rooms of high school kids?
Paul Finebaum is such a hypocrite either he loves Alabama or hate on them make up your mind, Paul
Opinions are like tail holes, everyone has one, so what else is new?
Bama will be looking for a new coach in half a decade or less.
His buddies extremely successful
Right, like the OC buddy who ran his high powered offense, his OL buddy whose position group won the Joe Moore award, the WR coach who had 3 1000 yard receivers. Can't imagine why he would bring them.
@@Don-md6wn Exactly. This staff doesn't compare
Oh dang, too bad Bama won't be loaded up on an ridiculous amount of 4 and 5 stars so they won't have have an obvious raw talent advantage over everyone they play now.... *sheds tear*.
can only sign 25 like everyone else -what is the advantage
"I've seen the guy after the guy at Alabama, and it was Bill Curry" .... Paul must think Ray Perkins was the dude.
Stop relabeling the same interview
Paul was wrong again. He's a Tennessee fan who never gets quite what he is looking for from Alabama. It has to be tough for him.
Trash programming from a trash network. The damage it has done to college football is immeasurable.
LOVE IT........
GO DAWGS !

Georgia is pathetic and the people
I'll bet you do. Bet you thought Florida State was full strength in your bowl game too and you do know that some desperate NFL teams will start looking at Kirby Smart, right?
You need Bama to be less to win… I wouldn’t pat myself on the back
Stop being salty. Alabama dominating days are over. UGA just went back to back. We don't need anyone to decline to win buddy
Wrong again, Paul
Seeme to me Deboer is simply an assistant coach. He will be doing all the hard work at practices while Saban is still running thungs. Feel bad for Deboer
that $8M+ a year or so will probably make him feel ok about it.
Seems to me you're a really bad troll.
Lsu is not recruiting as good as this clown is saying. Lol.
What does Paul the pencil neck know 😂
Well Kiffin is at work and I hope kalen is too. Kiffin see. In t-town snapping up recruits.
DeBore will probably have about 4 years of 9 or 10 win seasons with Sabans leftovers then jumps to the NFL
9 wins will be acceptable the first year. After that the pressure will be on
I'm not sure why you think he won't make it to the national championship when he took Washington there. Yall are idiots if you think the Washington program is even close to Bama’s program.
@printfish1 Who do you think wins Washington vs Georgia?
This past year...Washington. Washington beat Texas, Texas beat Bama, Bama beat UGA. Penix would've given Kirby fits tbh@@jeffccr3620
@@printfish1 if only UW were allowed to pay players under the table for years and have the conference and NCAA look the other way because of the money it funneled into the region. and the media lapdogs were none too happy to make Saban into a genius when he was really just playing with a stacked deck up his sleeve and everyone else had blindfolds on. once the portal came in Bama started slipping. with NIL now they'll never be the same.
Blowholes blowing hot Air
Alabama is beyond done without Saban gotta watch the Volunteers now.
Fellowship of the Miserable.
Saban didn't have double digit wins only 1 season outta 17yrs 🥶

finebaum hasn't been relevant in years and has been wrong way more often than right. .
Texas about to take SEC milkshake, cherry picking Bama best players is delicious 😂
😂😂 wut? Texas got one player and it was a WR that had 500 yards. The other guy Texas got was a 3rd string LB in his 4th year. Congrats?
Only delusional fans actually think Alabama is going to be next year, and I'm sorry but we are not going to be any good. We will be lucky to win 7 games. I don't understand this hire, what in the heck was the athletic department thinking?
@@daves4589 with the mass exodus of players, we are not going to have much to work with. I have no faith in this coach. I think it was a bad hire and we need someone that can recruit.
Then who should have been hired?
@@colewilliams9432 I hate to say it but Lane Kiffen, he can recruit and we need a recruiter
I don't know why everybody seems to think that a guy who just had a radio show of trailer trash people from Alabama who just go back and forth for those who support the University of Alabama the University of Oregon say some of the most ignorant stuff to each other before their football game has so much insight on college football and who he feels should be a coach and who's not a coach when he can't even decide weather to cut all is have or keep saving a God in hopes of growing some where he lost it!!
?
Bye bye Bama
You guys are the only ones who listen to Finebum. Nobody out here listens to the guy. Listen to the ones who call his show. He's an absolute goof. None of his crystal ball predictions come true. He said Bama would lose 4 or 5 games this past year just months ago. He's simply a goof. You guys have no idea what's going to happen at Bama or anywhere else next year. What hechas just said about Saban is not true.
