I have been thinking of whether or not I want to become more location independent in the next six months or so. I am fortunate to have gone fully and permanently remote since the pandemic. My team is spread across the US and Europe. Listening to your experiences has been very helpful to my location decision making process, especially regarding dating. It doesn't seem like moving around is a good idea if I ultimately want to settle down with someone, especially with the added difficulty of trying to find a partner in my 40's.
Because I'm going through this myself at the moment, one of the best recommendations is to have a home base, but travel out often. Because you have team members across the US and EU, you can also make a business case for team bonding or meeting. It also makes sense to put yourself out there more than often.
I'm a little jealous of people with strong passports. Quite different questions arise when you are a Russian emigrant, with blocked accounts, a complicated procedure for obtaining visas and without the opportunity to return home. But we're holding on! 😅
Ahh, I had a chat with a friend from the Philippines on this 🙏 there definitely is an unfairness to passport privilege and how people are treated. Ill be more cognizant of the content I create since I’m coming from the lens of an American
Dopends what you do, u coder? If you are coder then prob doesn’t matter. If you are 30 most people are settled in the west though. Dating is easy for Asian (men) outside us , eg in Latin America or Europe . Not sure about girls
