I'm thankful for Wilson's songs bringing back memories.
I was born in December 1959. I got to hear all of the great soul music from the 50's to the 70's. Soul music is part of my earliest memories and struck a chord in me from as young as I can remember. What a great musical era to be alive!
1961 here my friend and I'm with you, remember my older brother and sisters playing the 45 records back then and dancing in the kitchen to these legends, Pickett, Brown, sledge, Conley, Otis Redding, times were good then I remember and I'd like to go back again for a little bit but I'd have to say goodbye all over again to Mom, Dad, my brother and 3 sisters again. Best wishes to you!
I like the way 1960s Soul Music took the call-and-response ( preacher/choir) theme from gospel and turned it into the lead singer and brass section version of that.
When Wilson Pickett would say Lord Have Mercy somethinggood was getting ready to happy 😊 he was getting ready to tear the junt down it was hitting the floor time. The brother was bad. DPitts😎😎😎😍😍

Thank you so much for posting this ... great music and the most amazing performers-audience interaction ... makes me want to go to a concert in Africa 🌍
I was there (Black Star Square) for the 12hrs concert. The crowd was waiting for Wilson Pickett to hit stage; it was total madness when he stepped out in the Black spotted jump suit. Crowd waited too long after Ike-Tina Turner, Santana, Voices of East Harlem etc. There was a THUNDEROUS CHEER to hail the Exciting Pickett that was heard 15miles away early hours of the morning. Picket came in at the Midnight Hour and opened set with same song. I appeared in the SOUL TO SOUL movie welcoming all the artistes at the Accra International Airport. I was with traditional drummers at the opening movie and still have a DVD copy in my collections. Seeing the act on YoutTube now brings back old memories. I later saw Roberta Flack and Picket at concerts in Raleigh, North Carolina circa 1985.
The term soul comes directly out of the black church. If you want to know what soul is, go to a black church. What you see here is nothing more than an extension get down song sung in a black church. Don't believe me, Check out Aretha singing gospel.

I was a vendor at many concerts of today where all the performers do is push buttons, front gangster and try to look hard. None perform like this.
He's the "Wicked Pickett"!!! Lord have Mercy!!!! Love it!!! That was music 🎶!!!!SOUL LIVES ON!!!
I grew up on the 'Wicked Pickett's' music in the 60's - I danced alot to his music but was never lucky enough to see him - bless 'The Commitments' for honoring the spirit in his music. What an unbelievably electric performance captured here. - thank God we have it.
This is just incredible. 200% energy.
And Justin Bieber is up for a Grammy? What the hell happened?
The kids don'-t know what they're missing.
His grammy is more of an award for marketing.
B Buccaneer Damn shame
Wilson died
Aliens I think?
Rock music is BLACK MUSIC.
BLACK MUSIC IS AMERICAN CULTURE.
in Accra, Ghana - Soul to Soul concert,1971
Morton Marks I
I was there, run away from shool that day to be at the BLACK STAR SQUARE
Me too, George, I ran away from my boarding house with a group of my classmates and made our way to the Black Star to experience this once in a lifetime thing!
@@george46995 What happen later?? Got an ass whipping?!
George Lutterodt, you were at the concert! Or the movie theater...
it's impossible not to feel the joy and exuberance 50 years later.
I love it!!! The Soulful Wicked Wilson Pickett!!! Got me dancing on the couch at 2:00 in the morning! Wicked Wicked Wicked Get It Y’all!!!
I'm a music teacher, I just had one of my 8th graders sing and play Mustang Sally for their awards ceremony. It was so much fun!!!!

Whooo...The Rev. Pickett just took us all to church... say AMEN! ;)

He's drop dead gorgeous with a voice like no other❤
I saw this awesome soul man at three concerts and was always blown away by his music...One time he was starring with Jr Walker and the Allstars when we heard they would not make it to the concert.. The Awesome Mr Pickett played TWO sets and brought the house down.. His sound is in my soul now, and I will never forget him..
How can anyone give this a thumbs down is beyond me
Pure soul...nice tunes
Some suckers
Ain't got no soul
No soul
There are a holes everywhere. Good music will never die.
567 ppl need a soul transplant
1966 that song burned thru the music industry.
It brings me joy to see the audience smiling;dancing, endless energy.
I am so, so proud to live this generation.
Dave
So am I...our generation had some fantastic music. I grew up in the 60's 70's...I am 71. Love it!!!!
Looks like Ringo Starr got his answer... Rest on Mr. Pickett!!!
Listening to and watching Wilson perform just makes me feel so good. As the great Sam Cooke would have said, it "sends me ".Dear God this is soul. Whether we are black, white, brown, yellow or fucking green why can't we harness this feeling and LOVE, instead of hate each other. Peace & love to all ❤.
Google advice, my friend.
Just thinking of Prince Harry and Meghan ,and their Fab dancing at their wedding reception, must have been a great fun wedding ❤🎉😅
THIS is black music, not modern hip hop, rap, and trap. This is from the soul!! Talent
I always thought Eddie Murphy could have played Wilson in a movie, this era needs to be honored.
But rap is all so from the sole just times have changed
To me this is art at it's best
I such a joy to see those happy black faces full of love for Mr.Pickett or any other soul singer bringing it strong.
Spelling and grammar give me trouble
Thanks
The Wicked Pickett !! The Master Soul Vocalist !!
Now This Is A Man That Loves Performing!! He Looks So Happy!!!
My Friend Doug loved Wilson so much he just bust into Wilson's intro: this is Wilson Pickett, welcoming all you hippies, yippies and rounders and bounders to San Francisco. " Wilson always been one of my favorite artists. Doug killed himself in the '80s and whenever I hear Wilson, I remember my Friend I have no more.
Truth Indeed
I'm whiter than Wonder Bread and their ain't wonder why
Wilson Pickett is my all time favorite soul singer!!!!
those times were joy music and soul , today with the "rap" thing is only ,murder ,hate ,gangs, and selling drugs,
The looks on the faces in the crowd when he said the first "1.2.3!" *Stunned and mesmerized*
Might be because they were all so drugged up
@@joshkouri6864 Nah. Stay mad though.
What did Aretha say.. "Don't be so wicked, Pickett." Of course she meant it in a loving way.
"I'm feeling pretty good right now"
Yes, I totally hear you. Big respect.
Watching those guys dancing at the end, just makes my heart want to burst with joy! I wonder where they all are, now? ❤
Love how some random kid can jump on stage and dance right alongside Pickett!!!
yeah the kid was great, wonder how he learned to dance like that, wonder what he's doing now?
Some dumbass always wants to be the center of attention
@@DrVonNostrand Seriously? They were having fun! Everyone!
Those were the days, B4 9-11 and all the security measures we have now. I miss those days.
Yep back in the day it was like that unlike all these nowadays prima Donas with security bigger than potus.
I like the way 1960s Soul Music took the call-and-response ( preacher/choir) theme from gospel and turned it into the lead singer and brass section version of that.
Great footage of the late great Wilson Wicked Pickett!!! Honorable mention for the kick azz band !!!!! Fantastic!!!
Official instructions; at my funeral, play Amazing Grace; then this. It's all thanksgiving to the great and wild creator!
In those days Otis and Pickett were the top, still are!
Yea Otis, Wilson, Sam and Dave
@@charlesrichardson2655 And Aretha
Sounds like a black baptist preacher in his intro!
Hahahaha. You got that right! 😀
Dont know about your preacher, but we danced to his, Arethas, Temps. Beatles, Rollingstones music around the pool &we loved it.
well, where do you think most of the top artists of that era got their influence?
YOU SAID IT! HE'S STRAIGHT FROM THE CHURCH. BLACK PENTACOSTAL STYLE TO BE EXACT
You ain't never lied!!!
I'm a proud native of Prattville, Alabama.
I love WILSON.
I love every Pickett I know.
Nobody like the Wicked Pickett. Always loved his music & unbelievable energy.
When Wilson Pickett would say Lord Have Mercy somethinggood was getting ready to happy 😊 he was getting ready to tear the junt down it was hitting the floor time. The brother was bad. DPitts😎😎😎😍😍
what an amazing showman he has been. cant get enough out of this man. RIP King!!!!
We were so damn lucky to grow up in this era.
We lived in Cleveland and were able to get the Motown motor city music! CKLW. Windsor!
I say we were lucky to grow up then, everyday.
As a white guy growing up in the 60s in New York I knew this was music that I loved. Songs that you could actually dance to. None of this shit music that they put out today. Wilson Pickett was an entertainer and had SOUL....Thanks for the memories.
I totally agree and you can still listen and dance to this music from earlier times and enjoy it
now as in the past.
Once in England in Tom Jones home, a fellow named Ringo asked me what's Soul...That's it!
Who comes close to this in 2022?
I was the only white guy on Wilson's 1971 tour thru Dixie. I was his babe contracter. Some people are born with soul in their voice.
Hey, your a part of a legend in our hearts!
Those were the days. I know what you mean.
The wicked pickett,
Just loved his connection with the audience, and how happy he looks, what a voice, what a man.
Rip Soul brother
Absolutely brilliant! Brings tears to my eyes!
Watching this is almost a religious experience. God bless you Wilson Pickett ❤️
This looks like it was from Wilson Pickett's 1971 concert in Ghana, taken from the documentary "Soul to Soul."
Yep and not one woman in the audience.
@@gypsyskyy9451 nonsense. There are quite a few, just not in the mosh pit.
Great memories for you 😊😊😊
That's so cool and looks like it was a great time!!! What an awesome memory ❤
The term soul comes directly out of the black church. If you want to know what soul is, go to a black church. What you see here is nothing more than an extension get down song sung in a black church. Don't believe me, Check out Aretha singing gospel.
he sings a story better than most can sing ... genius
I'm Mexican American and I love WilsonPickett he sang for al of us getting down to the heart of the soul.siempre lleno de canción y música del mero corazon.love you always my man!
Did I just witness one of the greatest live performances
ever?
that took awesome to levels unbeknownst to man!!
And they say elvis is the king...LOL
Wilson Picket the King of Rock and Soul!!!
Koolazz Fred
Yes you did.
yes
when an entertainer is "in the zone" and the crowd loves him/her they could sling pudding and talk mush and it would be great.. but it takes greatness to make that happen.. and here we are seeing some, from a guy who was one of the monsters of greatness.
You did Fred :-)
Yes.
