Review: Stealth Bomber electric bike packs a serious punch

  • Stealth makes the most powerful electric bicycles on the market - some 24 times more punchy than you're legally allowed to ride on the road. But off the road, these 85kmh beasts are a unique and awesome experience.

      There are much cheaper electric bikes ( see trek Power Fly $5k) and if you consider the cost of perfamance bikes in general ($4k-$10k) its pretty understandable.

    I just clocked a little over 2k miles on mine #145. Personal speed record was 57mph on a downhill paved road with knobby tires on. Sold my car and truck. Didn't really need them anymore after getting the bomber. It's just too fun to make trips around town to get the things I need with a backpack.

    Can you turn off the electric motor so you can use it as a regular bike to get to the mountains?

    Wait, wait, wait... so it weighs 50+ kilos with this unnecessarily massive, fat, probably not well engineered frame, and they just threw a 2012ish Marzocchi 888 RCV "bomber" (from which they got the name for the monstrosity, they even used MZ's original decals and transferred them on the damn chainstay!), a massively faulty low-tier rear shock that is most likely a couple of rides from exploding, especially with all the extra weight on it, an insanely narrow handlebar... what is that.. a 660mm? Is this the 2000's? Crazy.. ... how does this thing even handle... wow, never mind back to note --, and a bunch of other mid-tier junk in there, and they ask for 10 grand?
    I'm literally speechless! I'm lost for words!
    First off these 888's are well known to be flimsy on their own on a proper low-weight downhill bike used for its purposes, as it develops play in the stanchions easily, let alone being ridden in such conditions with so much unsprung and combined weight.. it's ridiculous.. I mean the guy designing this shit obviously doesn't know a dime about what he is doing when he just chooses these components for the respective purpose. I am just amazed.
    Secondly, and this is major... those are NOT Magura brakes (what the actual ****, who told you to say that?!), those are Gatorbrake brakes, which 1) are terrible, have terrible power, and even worse modulation on the lever for a TWO piston brake, let alone for an 8 piston which they are; 2) weighs something like a kilo each, probably without the hardware and rotors (ok, maybe with), which would be almost 4 sets of MAGURA MT7's, which greatly outperform these, and probably like two and a half sets of MAGURA GUSTAV M's which insanely outperform these (if u would like to overkill it, and still save weight);... And they threw in a "carbon handlebar and seatpost to save weight"... ... bummer;
    Suspension was probably just fitted with up-rated springs front and back and they called it done... custom valving, dialing-in and fine-tuning the adjustments for the application... never heard of that! You can see the thing bottom out madly from these little bump-jumps, with the fork hitting hard as if you just landed a 20 footer to flat.. come on; Just insane! This thing will not hold up to aggressive riding for more than 20 rides, and I'm not even kidding.
    Handlebar needs replacement right off the bat, since it's so narrow you can't control this (heavy-ass) thing, which can be seen on the not-that tight corners in the forest. Guy is literally fighting to flick the tail in the corner so badly, thing just looks heavy and unbalanced as hell... combined with a narrow handlebar. Just. Wow. MINIMUM an 800mm bar for this thing. Minimum. With a lot less rise, even flat would be good here, to help with that awful geometry a bit.
    .....
    .....
    I don't know, I just felt pissed off after watching this joke. And this company consciously takes money from people for this. Wow. Wow. Mad stuff.
    I'm out.

      the handlebar is not narrow, you can see any motobike - 150-200kg and 660-700mm handlebar. It is normal. But as you pointed - anything else is ... not normal. But - not normal for us, mtb riders. PAy attention they rude this thing on some dirt 'street'. So it is just ultrafast XC bike. It is nothing like AM/FR/DH. And now, seeing it as XC bike it is not that bad. I mean, I don't have such and never owned, but seeing other people giving away 4-5K for XC makes me thinking of everything is ok with that Stealth Bomber. But It is just electric XC bike. Coz I top 60km/h on my local DH trails with my normal DH machine. I don't need E for that. This is for flat terrain.

      +Jester Cohort But kits electric and being that opens up a whole load of off road riding.Motorbikes (im a biker) are noisy and piss people off as soon as they go into the woods by me.On this ebike i could ride all the tracks and no one would give a shit coz i wasnt making any noise.Also as long as your not going over the speed limit on the road you maybe riding on there shouldnt be any reason to get pulled over.I would have one 2moro if it wasnt so expensive.

    • @jestercohort7348
      @jestercohort7348 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D Charger ..hey I understand all that, ...simply pointing out, that no matter what, ..under the law, these are not legal on public roads which includes forestry tracks etc, ...and therefore, can "only" be used on private property. Riding it on the road under the speed limit is irrelevant, ..if a cop catches ya, you'll get done and, they will most likely confiscate it because it's not legally allowed to be on the road regardless of travel speed. What we think 'should be' ok ..and what the law dictates are two entirely different things and so,I don't see a phat lot of point in such an expensive toy for such limited use. Cheers

    Great video. Really. But what about the disadvantages? Like, how the huge unsprung weight (look it up) of the hub motor handles really rough terrain like big rocks, roots and jumps. There's a reason wheels are as light as possible in all other vehicles (cars and bikes). I've heard from Stealth Bomber owners that this is quite a limitation, it's also clearly visible in the video that it adversely affects handling and jump-ability. It also needs to rotate the weight of the motor which costs efficiency. And, how's the center of gravity? Seems off. I'm not being a negative nelly, it's just that for that price-tag, one at least has the right to ask these questions.

    Lol wtf? Is this a joke? For only 10 grand you can buy a really heavy bicycle that you still mostly have to peddle! Or you can spend like a 3rd of that and buy an actual motorcycle or a couple hundred bucks and just put a motor on any bike you'd like.

    Just brought the Stealth Bomber B52. It is the best electric bike out there period. So much low end torque makes this amazing machine accelerated so quickly. Excellent handling on top of that too. Everything about this bike is so good that there is a lot of copycat version of this bike. Is it worth 10K? Yes, best of everything (look, craftsmanship, and incredible performance). Love this bike so so much.
