@@joeyscleaninglady2877 perfect machine I can say! I use it very often. love the formfactor, keyboard-quality, trackpoint-buttons, robustness. screen, graphics, processor, everything! :) very usable still as main laptop especially with a few mods.
I work at an used laptop store couple of days a week and a customer gave me an x61t with touchscreen, three batteries, external battery charger, docking station and two power supplies, all in wonderful perfect condition. He wanted to give it to somebody who will use it. That's what I intend to to. Absolutely lovely machine, way ahead of its time.
My teacher has one of these. He loves it. I tried to steal (copy) PDFs and PPTs to learn bc I was behind. By a lot, and none of my classmates can give me sufficiently good notes. So I tried to steal it. It did not work out. My iPhone 6s was unable to act like a pendrive and I've gotten myself into trouble bc of that. I got so fed up with iOS I didn't even bother to replace the screen for 10$ from aliexpress. I went back using my beloved Xperia Z2. Don't throw away your stuff until it deserves to die. Like that f*cking iPhone. Happy new year, LR.
I have refurbished a very cheap X60 Tablet from ebay over some months. The remaining parts to fix are minor (base plastic and bezel) and I might drop it first to do that. It's all about drawing with a pen in Windows 7 and Zorin Linux for my own use. It works great with an SSD and 2 Gb RAM. Windows 10 made the pen operation lag and skip. It was quite a challenge to make some USB media in 32 bit to clone the disk over to the SSD. The great thing is to look at it in front of oneself. The cute size is hard to get from videos.
Very true. Glad to hear your machine continues to get some solid use. Shame about Windows 7 support going away this month. Seemed like yesterday it came out.

Happy new year! The 4:3 ratio screen on this laptop is great for working. However, as I used to own the X60, which has quite similar internal design, I'd say these aren't the best laptops for 2020, they run very hot even just browsing the internet, and that's not just the CPU, the wifi card under palmrest is toasty too, making it quite uncomfortable to use after several hours. The screen is, as you said, too dim to even use in bright rooms. Though if the screen of this tablet laptop has wide viewing angle, I can still consider it, does it have IPS screen?

the biggest issue/ challenge with this laptop is to make it work today. win 7 has all the drivers and runs ok but older versions of programs are required (eg. adobereader from 2011). i would like to hear people trying linux with this - latest versions of ubuntu, mint are "heavy" - antix only worked ok so far
In my experience, devices like this that have special hardware buttons need significant tweaks and customization to get working properly. The one thing that Windows 8 and on did that was good was standardize how these items function so it is easier to get other operating systems to play nice.
In Oct 2024, I'm using my X61T non-touch, with SSD, 4gb RAM, Middleton BIOS mod, and Linux Mint 21.3. I've got all the tablet buttons working, including rotation, and with Xournal++ application, it's very competent for making handwritten notes. It's totally usable for browsing, TH-cam, word processing, script writing and other productivity activity. Can also use as an e-reader, though it's a little heavy and warm for this. With Thinkfan configured, I've generally got it running between about 48c and 64c for the above routine usage. I'd like to upgrade to 8gb RAM but 4gb sticks are very expensive in the UK. Great fur watching old TV cop shows too, Cagney & Lacey, Hill Street Blues, etc.
Yeah they're easier to upgrade, but like anything there are tradeoffs. Back in the day I wonder how many people actually upgraded that were buying them for businesses? I think more ThinkPads get upgraded second hand than they ever did new.

Thank you. Now I got it in the mail today, and there was a fan error before, so I lubricated it and that problem went away.
