Want a straight-to-the-point Eric Clapton guitar lesson that’ll get you playing like the legend himself right away?! You’ve come to the right video!
This short and sweet lesson gets right to the meat of how the great Eric Clapton got his sound based on the notes he often played.
Speaking of his sound, we’ll also talk a bit about how he got his famous “Woman Tone”!
This Eric Clapton lesson brings together the essence of his lead guitar playing and condenses it into a SUPER SCALE that I like to call the “Claptatonic Scale”.
I will show you this scale, and of course break down some badass Clapton-esque licks to go along with it. This wouldn’t be a proper Eric Clapton guitar lesson without some licks!
Once you learn everything I show you in the lesson, you’ll be able to instantly apply it to your own playing, while leaving plenty of room for you to add your own flair to them and even play them in different musical keys!
📘 SPEAKING OF MUSICAL KEYS!! Don’t forget to grab your FREE Guitar Cheat Sheet here: www.guitarmast...
👆 That Cheat Sheet will take what you just learned and blast it into infinity and beyond! We went over guitar licks in the key of Dm today, but imagine being able to play guitar licks in EVERY other key under the sun! That’s what you’ll get when you click that link!

I don't like to think of it as a scale. I like to think of it as having your chord tones 1, 3 and 5. Then your "colour" notes b3, b7, b5, 6 and 9. Much easier to conceptualize that way.
Dude!!! Awesome...gonna be a super scale weekend for me...Thanks Eddie/GMM
Been doing that for years, but don't know theory. I just pick notes that sound good to my ear. I've been studying it a bit in recent years though. Thanks for this lesson. Clapton has always been one of my favorite.
I'm now learning why the pentatomic scales are so necessary. Thanks to you Eddy.
I'm only 73 now. I'll be 81 when I can play that like that!!!!
You'll get there!!! :)
This is pure magic Eddie! You're opening so many doors for me with every video! Clapton is one of my fave guitarists and the guy that first lit the 6 string fever in my soul! Thanks for the great tutorials
Love the way you showed the animated TAB on screen!!!!
Thanks, Eddie! just beginning to work o lead licks. Been a rhythm guitarist for years, and began comping only recently. Now that the speed licks don't seem so fast, I want to move into lead licks to augment my accompaniment of my own vocals. At 83, I have no dreams of becoming a rock star, of anything like that, but sure derive great pleasure in continuing improvement of my guitar playing abilities. This lesson is the greatest, and came at the right time in my learning growth process.
Rock on!
I never apply theory or even reference to them . I just know my patterns and do the rest by feel and ear . This allows me to learn songs on the fly ..
Need to learn me that Claptatonic scale!
Truly one of the best teachers on TH-cam. Always grateful for the additional tips on how to make solos sound awesome. Thank you! 🙏🏼

Hernan! I highly recommend Guitar Mastery Method! I've been a member for several years. I've been a VIP member for the last couple years. I've been playing for over 30 years, but Eddie, Charlie and the rest of the instructors really break things down so even beginners and intermediate players can get a handle on the guitar. There is something for every level of player. They have courses for just about any kind of music there is. Theres an entire course on Texas Blues Mastery, Country Guitar Mastery, one on Classic Rock Mastery and a ton of stuff that can be applied to just about any style! The Guitar 101 Course starts at the very beginning with all the nuts and bolts you need to lay a foundation for your playing. VIP is definitely the best deal because you get access to every course Guitar Mastery Method has. It's only $27.00 per month. They might actually have a deal for new subscribers. Not only do you get all the courses, there is also a VIP community on Facebook. If you ever have a guitar related question, I can almost guarantee there will be a member that can answer it for you. There is also monthly live lessons with one of the Guitar Mastery Method Instructors. They usually last 1-2 hours. You also have access to every live lesson from the past. I'm JW Bird in the Guitar Mastery Method Facebook page and in the Guitar Mastery Method VIP Facebook page. If I can ever be of help, give me a shout!
Hi Eddie!..Great Lesson!... shows how to be creative in making the pentatonic scale more colourful...Superb!
I do this a lot. Having a difficult time associating patterns to actual scales . This way I could throw some key notes in solos.Man I love guitar thanks GMM
I love you, man.
you are really a great teacher no doubt....!, I'm started following you respect...…. form India sir
Another good one Eddie!
Another great 👍one Eddie. U da man!
Nice info, thanks
Great lesson! Taught so concisely . Thank you, SUBSCRIBED.
Another good lesson thank you very much Eddie
Well done
I call those “blue notes” major scale notes. So if I’m soloing over D, those notes are in the D major scale and so I can use them at any time, along side of the D pentatonic. It just make more sense in my mind to think of them that way. I simplify music for myself, and just think of it as “shapes in succession” they start in different places depending on the key, and they sometimes overlay each other, but it’s always shapes in succession.
Awesome!
"Claptatonic". I like it.
Ty alot
So, what you're really saying is, there are no wrong notes. =) I dig your channel, man!
"It's music theory, not music fact... there are no rules." - E. Van Halen
Can you give me source I been searching that
all the greats do this page beck clapton srv moore etc. if you play just the basic 5 note scale it sounds pretty bland fast.
You're just describing the blues. You combine the major and minor pentatonic. In the lesson you're mixing D minor and D major. So taking the D minor blues scale and adding the 3rd and 6th from D major
Clapton is really legendary 🙌
Great lesson.......
Love your teaching method. Do you have a teaching on the solos for Spooky?
Awesome Info! $uperscales!!!
Don't think in terms of scales, or pentatonic patterns, listen to the chords, follow the emotive storyline of the lyrics, use the entire fretboard vertically and horizontally, liberate yourself from the dreary mathematics of scale patterns and play music.
So I do that ... Just feeling the intervals and licks that will go well ❤️🩹 but then I look at it to get to try to understand what I did or was doing and I see scales and what happened.
Then combine the two and feel like I learned something that day.
Yeah I do that thing as well
So I do this to a point ... Then use theory to look back, but I'm not sure if this is a real thing without theory.
If by theory you meant the major scale, then that's not really theory yet anyway to me.
You can play things off the scale, you just ... When you do, you switched to something or you are focusing on something else ...
What is it?
Are you emphasizing a chromatic approach note
Are you using a blues scale
Are you continually changing where a blues note would be and changing the entire scale one or more times in a song?
You'll see it if you know theory.
Are you changing the mode or major to minor
You can see it.
It's not a mystery.
But ... I will do that then go back and say what did I even just do what did I play
Ok that's what I played
Why is that working ... Oh ok I did this.
That's music language.
But I feel like you can't say
I just played with feel
And you didn't even know anything.
You have to know how each note and scale feels to play with feeling.
If you can't imagine and understand the feeling of the notes because you are not aware of them ...
I don't picture you doing very well playing with feeling you don't know what it would feel like to move from one note to another.
When you do understand it ... Then you can understand the feelings that you play with.
excellent. would appreciate more insights into how to get that sound inc amp settings
Knock it out Eddie 🎉🎉
Very cool!!!!
but what are you doing in the begin.. and at 3:35..because that sounds better then just the scale
Cool makes sense to me, I’ll work it.
I’m still planning a video for the dot com page
Sweet
3:46 4:33. 5:47. .Thanks again!
How are you getting that nice sound? What amp/amp settings?
Eric's "secret" is his natural talent fueled by intense practice in his early years.
He did his woodsheeding for sure but there s no replacement for the gift of talent.
Btw Eddie, I’m a graduate of the 30 day blues boot camp.
eddie, can you notice my comment? i am trying to learn scales and solo stuff but i really dont know if i should learn all the notes on the guitar on every string. is it really necessary to learn them all or if learning scales and root notes on a scale is enough? pls help me if it is really necessary to learn all the notes on the guitar or jus t the root notes on a scale??? i am struggling so much i just wan t to quit learning notes and solos so please if you read this, i need your knowledge if i should learn all the notes or only root notes on a pentatonic scale thank you hope you notice or someone who is a pro guitarists inthe comments much appreciated.
Learn the roots and understand the intervals that you are playing. and the fretboard grid will disappear 😀
Hey man, whats your amp settings
Any reason why you did not use the same notes in the lower tone range ? Example you played the note D, F on the low E string but played D,E,F on the high E string. You did the same ting on other strings but I wanted to keep the example simple within my question
Rock 0n! 🤘
No one is as precise and clean day in and day out as EC!
Sign up for gmm... you will be glad you did
They're called Modes
📌TO Date..I Actually come away with something I can USE!! Thanks So Much ❤️
Mixing minor and major
I like the sound
"Clapsatonic" 🤣... Great scale!
Isnt this like a BB Box?
It is a minor pentatonic scale pattern known as box one or the G pattern in the CAGED system. Also know as position one. But, he is adding notes as he explains in the video. If I am not mistaken, the BB box is primarily
the G,B,A strings in the second box known as box 2, position 2, or the A pattern.
Noice
Eddie, are you just overdriven, or are you playing through a pedal?
firsttttttt😄
