sometimes large income may bring huge outcome, Sir ! | Actually I have QS experience more than one year working in a company and actually I have graduated Civil engineering lecture over ten years. thank you for your attention. waalaikum salam
This analysis is too simplistic and its lack of depth renders its virtually worthless. The presenter should have started with the definition of QS and Site Engineer and their variations. The prefix "Site" makes this kind of engineer specifically different. A QS can be consultant or "Site" QS. Being a QS myself, i disagree with most of what has been claimed in this video. As a QS, when an employer issues you a laptop, that means you are going to so a lot of work at home. Those who know QSs know that their social lifes can be undesirable. QS make better Project Managers on housing developments, renovations etc. If we have finished with major infrastructure projects, one wonders what site engineers will be doing. Successful site engineers work closely with a site qs otherwise they are not good for business. While i have obvious inclinations, the best would be (at the very least) possess both competencies, if possible have both qualifications and enjoy the benefits of both. Do not be misled, engineers are promoted to what except Senior Engineer while most successful contractors have QS as managing directors, board memebrs etc. I could write a whole article about this and provide evidences.
from my point of view site engineer and quantity surveyor can be a single person . a site engineer without qs knowledge can never be a good engineer these two post are two faces of coin a person can be a site engineer qs at the same time for a site engineer qs is necessary like water necessary for fish and qs without site experience cant easily calculate the quantities both have chances of promotion but it is better to qs and site engineer should be a same person as far as family is concerned qs has to work a lot otherwise his single mistake can give financial loss to the contractor you may or may not agree with my point
Costing Engineer @ Quantity Surveyor is the person who really expert in rate calculation for all items in 5M BQ according to SMM (Standard Method Measurement). Civil engineer, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer etc are not responsible for each rate calculations in 5M management (Man power, machinery, material, money, minute/time) during BQ's preparation in tendering stage.
Biased. I believe the speaker is suggesting based on his experience and knowledge on the two mentioned profession. Both of them hold value in their own respective areas. QS are inclined to the Contract Manager path, and SE are inclined to the Project Manager path. Their forte are also different bcs naturally QS wld be better in legal, cost and contractual issues than SE and SE wld be better in project mgt and site issues. Decide which one suits your interests and pursue it. Both co-exists together because of their difference in scope of works so no one is better than another, rather it's how you plan your career development.
