    OK, so I just made your rice recipe. I followed your instruction right down to the 90 second rinse. Apparently my taste in rice is like yours because it was the best rice I've made in the IP so far, really excellent, not mushy at all. Since this cooked rice is only moderately moist it would be perfect with a sauce, as you suggested. Took the IP Ultra 6 min to heat up to pressure, 3 min to cook, and 10 min release for a total of 19 min. I really like 3 parts jasmine mixed with 1 part brown rice and cook it basically like you'd cook jasmine. For that i think I'd need to cook a little longer or add slightly more water or both. Hmmmm.

    Just bought this instant pot but a newer version. I cannot thank you enough for the simplicity of your video. Straight to the point. This is my new favorite kitchen tool! Day 1 I was going to pressure cook a meat th-cam.com/users/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and potato stew, decided I wouldn't eat it that night so I went with a slow cook so I could go to bed and put it away in the morning. I love that versatility! The sauté feature works great and adds tons of extra flavor to dishes, and I can easily sizzle meats in the bottom then deglaze for some restaurant worthy flavors.Big bonus - you can cook a whole frozen chicken in about 2 hours. Amazing! I've seen a couple videos, haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!

    I fought with sticky rice for years, which I don’t like. Then somebody told me to stop rinsing my rice and it won’t be sticky. So that’s what I do and it comes out fluffy every time; not sticky. I realize my way is not popular, but it works for me. Perfect every time. I do cook it three minutes with a 10 minute natural release; the same as you do. No hate here...I love your recipes! 👍🏼

    I can't believe the number of comments about using the rice setting. Do you use the presets on your microwave? I sure don't. They are often not accurate and since Jeff more than obviously knows how to get the most out of an Instant Pot, I'm certainly not one to question his methods!

    I have to say, I had a pressure cooker, a rice cooker and the Instant Pot. The pressure cooker I got I thought was wonderful, but quickly learned it was not the best for making rice. I had it a few years before I decided to try a rice cooker. The rice cooker wasn't really any better as far as the end results, but was a bit easier to use for rice than the pressure cooker. But the some of the rice still came out burned. But I have finally had the best results with my Instant Pot! So much so that I gave the rice cooker away, and I can't remember the last time I used the other pressure cooker. I've kept it because of its size and in case I ever wanted to cook more than one thing at a time. But it's really just taking up space; so, perhaps I should consider donating that as well. The Instant Pot really has been the only thing I've needed.

  • @2010stoof

    Tried in my mini 3qt. 2 cups rice, 2 cups chicken stock. 3 min pressure, 10 min Nat release.
    Rice was underdone. Kind of hard in the middle. Maybe it wasn't underdone, but to me it seemed that way. Rinsed rice and everything.
    I was using my non stick pot and the mini so maybe that had something to do with it.
    Should I just add another minute or two to the pressure time?
    Maybe since it's only 3 qt it came to pressure alot faster than the 6 would have so it essentially cut down to total cooking time.
    Any ideas are welcome

    I set my IP just like you say, 3-4 minutes in high pressure but the rice turn out half cooked. Little raw. I didn’t however let it have a natural release of the steam. I release it right away. Could that be it? I also cooked a 3 cups of rice with a 1:1 ratio of water.

    • @RobertS122
      @RobertS122 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 10 minute rest is crucial, if you vent after 3 minutes your rice won't be cooked. Let it stand the 10 minutes under pressure and then release. This method makes perfect rice.

    I have yet to see any TH-cam teaching videos use the buttons on either side of the digital window. If you make rice, why not use the rice option in the upper right side ? Also, no salt and no butter at all ? Must be bland. Counting on covering it with something else I guess. Thanks in advance. I’m waiting for my 3 quart Instant Pot 3 quart mini to arrive tomorrow. Rice is going to be one of the first things I’ll make. I’m getting it pretty much to make rice and heat up leftovers from the freezer, etc. My primary 9 in 1 is an 8 quart Ninja Foodi but Ninja apparently doesn’t make them this small. I’ve also ordered a non-stick pot for the 3 quart. My Ninja Foodi has me spoiled to that.

    Hi. I bought a huge bag of jasmine rice from Costco. I watched the video and noticed that your rice as mine was sticky. I’ve made it in a rice pot in a pot-in-pot in the instant pot and in the instant pot as shown. Here’s my beef......ratio is correct but this rice is always sticky, buttered or not. Is jasmine rice supposed to be sticky? If it is, is that a natural element of the rice. I never get that problem with uncle bens. We don’t prefer brown or basmati rice.

    I too was wondering why you didn't use the Rice setting for white rice. I am sure you have a reason, Jeff.

      @karae6333 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A Murphy the white rice setting cooks it for to long. I believe if you push the button it sets it for like 10 or 12 minutes which is WAY to long. At least in my experience.

      I have an Ultra. I use UNrinsed long grain rice at a ratio of 1 part rice to 1-1/4 parts water. I use the rice preset and it comes out fine. Maybe it's different with the Duo?

      @@karae6333 rice setting is 12 min low pressure. I used it tonight rice was still a little firm in the middle so wouldn't use again

    You gave great instructions and I followed them perfectly. My Burn mode came on and I had to do a quick release and throw that batch away. I then looked at my VIVA ISP and yours and we both have a "Rice" button. I am wondering why you did not use that as well????? I went ahead and used the Rice button for the next batch. Not so very pleased with the results but it was good enough to put in my Chicken Fried Rice recipe from you. Please let me know why you do it the way you do and what the heck did I do wrong? Thanks! Love your videos.

      Hi! I always use this method and my rice is never burnt. Try washing your rice three times or until the water runs clear so theres no more starch on the outside of the rice. Then soak the rice for 1-2 minutes and pour it into the pot and do the rest using his recipe. Cheers!

      @Warbler36 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheryl Layman I use the same recipe but the instructions for my instant pot say to cook for four minutes. This seems to work better. Natural release for 10 minutes and you’re good to go. If you use the “rice“ button on your instant pot it cooks for 12 minutes on low pressure. I have not tried this yet because it sounds like a long time.

    Why did you not you the “rice button”? I have the duo60 plus (?, the one with blue screen) and I followed the 1:1 ratio but the rice came out super crunchy. What did I do wrong?

    • @Warbler36
      @Warbler36 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Correa are you letting the rice natural release for 10 minutes? If so I would increase the water to rice by a few tablespoons. More water will make a softer rice.

  • @mrp8488

      Add more water. You will have to play around with it until u get it to the consistency you like.

    Suggested cook times for simple rice are insanely different, your time is the lowest suggested time. I've seen up to 12 minutes suggested and usually 8 to 10. Everyone says it's perfect

    Loved the video (great job as usual)... however, it was very bland as asian rice usually is. Your cooking time was right on. For my chicken enchiladas (This Old Gal), after the rice was cooked, I added Sezon seasoning and lots of butter. The rice took on such a wonderful flavor. Yours is the first rice recipe that has worked for me. I've been using the IP for 2 years and just about gave up on cooking rice.

      Alec Smith question, sir... when you rinse it so well, does it lose the aroma?

    • @tambranicolekendall9288
      @tambranicolekendall9288 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to rinse the rice to get rid of the surface starch which leads to sticky rice. Not rinsing the rice when using a rice cooker will lead lots of bubbling of the water and a yucky mess. For medium and long-grain rice rinsing is a good idea. Dr. Karen Lee has some good information on cooking rice and Instant Pot recipes. Hope this helps!

    • @swiftyoverfifty
      @swiftyoverfifty 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does help! Thanks! Seems a controversial topic. I did some research on it, as I was totally uneducated on even rinsing rice! Very interesting!
