Enjoyed the video nearly as much as you would have enjoyed the whole trip. I recently sold my 26X after 16 years of enjoyment and miss it terribly. Nice to see a group of Macs together.

I read comments like this all the time. makes me never want to sell my sailboat even if i don't use it as much. My I ask why you sold?

Yeah, I hope to keep mine as long as possible. Storing it at home keeps the costs down. Age, medical reasons are often given as reasons for a sale although moving to larger boats is also a popular one in my circles.

@@oleksandrzelenov6062 this boat is good for up to 250 miles from coast. They are coastal cruisers.

    Nice video, nice boats!
May I ask why using the sail appeared to not be the first choice?

Sorry for the delay in responding. There are a number of reasons why I use the motor over the sails. In this video, crossing the Salish Sea would take too long by sail and my family isn’t patient enough. Also, if it’s windy enough to sail is often to rough for the family. Whenever I get the chance, I unfurl the Genoa to add a little speed or stabilize the boat a bit. If I’m by myself and have no particular schedule, I like to raise the sails but it’s not very often that happens. In 2022, I didn’t bring the mast on 5 of our 6 trips and just enjoyed the convenience of a motor cruise with easy set up. My family liked that.

What anchor do you have? And how much chain and rope?

I have a pretty small Danforth with about 10’ chain and I think about 175’ rope. This has worked for me especially in situations where I’m sheltered or stern tying. I have a new Scarpa Excel #2 or #3 (will have to look) but I haven’t had to use it yet. If I plan to do any solo trips, I’ll probably get more chain and definitely take the larger anchor with me.

Do you have your centre board always down.

Centre board is usually down under 7 knots. Faster than that, I bring the center board and rudders up and just use the engine for steering. To maneuver at slow speeds in a marina for example I always have all boards down as it's really difficult without.
