I started this channel in 2011, and didn't do much with it other than hosting devlogs and gameplay videos.
Now I do analytical playthroughs, and people like them.

It’s Ultima that got the attention for sure. Some of us might even watch all the grinding.
Gosh lets not get ahead of ourselves. Watching through the Ultima 1 summation made me glad I hadn't played it back in the day. To be fair I started with Ultima IV which was amazing for the day so I have to put Ultima 1 into the perspective of you have to walk before you can run and this was kind of uncharted territory at the time.
I think Ultima is such a historic series that it obviously hit a lot of people. I mean someone playing Ultima 1 popped up on my feed and I was like "Yeah, Ill watch that!". I hope you go through all the Ultimas but other series from the era like Phantasie or Starflight could be interesting as well. Even stuff like SSI's Roadwar 2000 or Origin's own Autoduel.
Starflight I and II are on the list, and I'll add the Phantasie games, Roadwar 2k, and Autoduel. No idea what I'll get to or when, but they'll be considered!
@@MichaelCoorlim Honestly those last two I consider pretty niche but back at the time my friends and I were obsessed with the Steve Jackson game Car Wars. Also I'm Australian so Mad Max/The Road Warrior were huge in my teens. It was so long ago I am wonder how much of my affection is simply nostalgia :)
I love the video game history aspect. I remember watching the Spoony retrospectives back in the day (damn, must have been at least 15 years ago now), and while those were a lot of fun, I actually watched your videos because I was curious about the games beyond just poking fun at them, and learning more about the design philosophies and shortcomings of the time is really interesting.
Congrats on 1,000 Michael! The content is worth the subscribers and more. I expect you'll get to 10,000 before you know it. Looking forward to the new material you've got planned.

Your obvious interest and appreciation for the Ultima games is probably what drew me in the most. I liked that you matter-of-factly explained the game and acknowledged the shortcomings without getting lost in excessive praise or criticism. I was excited to see the Ultima 2 videos out so quickly, and I'm eagerly looking forward to Ultima 3!
I'm happy for you, I hope branching out works well for whatever goals you set. While I'll always make time to nerd about Ultima I'm sure you have insight and passion to make other retrospectives or playthoughs interesting.
I'm in U2 now. I'm doing my grinding on sea serpents in the time of legends.
Yeah right now I'm grinding away in Ultima III. Spawn rates are higher, but individual combats take longer due to the tactical combat. And trying to keep experience growth between the casters who can wipe out entire groups and characters with single weapons is... interesting.
I found your channel just as I was searching for youtubers who make videos about old PC RPGs specifically 😅 I feel like your summary video style hits a spot for me because I am interested in seeing those games and experiencing them in a sense but not necessarily interested in playing them myself
The reason your channel blew up after your Ultima 1 review is because your review style is interesting and unique. Lots of fun to watch.
Also, you kind of look like Chris from the Lost Sectors channel, another channel that reviews older titles.
Congrats! I've only been following about 3 days... Possibly 5? BUt I love the Ultima content. Reminds me of playing them... I've been meaning to.... However, after watching your Ultima 2 content... I think I might skip to Ultima 3.
Ultima III with the VGA patch looks very nice and the music is great. It'll take me some time to finish - even though the map is only maybe 60-70% as large as Ultima II's, it's actually full of content and things to do.

Watching you play ultima 1 and 2 made me realize why Mario was such a big thing. It wasn't just a good game, it was far better than any other game in that era and it still holds to this day.
Maybe you could do essays on other video games franchises that shaped modern gaming. Small shorts about where hp/ mp , health and mana potions come from and other defining aspects of the gaming world.
As a side note, something a lot of people care about when watching TH-cam videos is the narrator voice because they tend to listen while doing chores, drawing,workout,etc and your calm voice is really enjoyable to listen to.

It's funny that It made everyone instinctively try stomping on the enemies as soon as they play any platformer. That game affected not only future games but also the player's mind forever.

Ultima V is the best game in series - also the first game I ever played so it is special ~ the lazarus remake is dope too

I'm one of the Ultima watchers/subscribers. I'm so excited for you! I'd love to see more of the old school rpgs. Maybe you could work some Wizardry and Might and Magic in? Whatever you decide, if you keep doing gaming videos tin the same way you did Ultima, I'll stick around!
Wizardry is a tough one for me but I might go back and cover it at some point. Might & Magic is more likely. I'm also considering Megami Tensei.
And we're halfway to 2000 already! Deservedly so
I was born -86, in 90's I saw most games in PC Format - magazines.
I haven't own computer or money to play all those games until now when I got older. It just nostalgic thing to look old games what they truly were.

Also, this channel not have cringe tiktok effects/intros/faceposes/music so I would look new videos if it continue with this same current format.

I became interested in video game history not too long ago, but it's already a huge passion of mine. I love seeing how things evolved over time, which games influenced specific trends or added a groundbreaking feature. I wanted to experience as many of those games as possible so I compiled a spreadsheet of every franchise that I had an interest in only to realize it makes over a 1000 games!
I know that it's impossible to play all of them, that's why I'm really glad to have stumbled upon your Ultima I video and now learn that you'd like to pursue the subject of video game history. Hearing the thoughts of more experienced people feels very enlightening and I'm happy that I can see games that I might not have been able to get through and learn things that I would have missed otherwise. Thank you for taking the time to make these!

My son saw me watching U3 ep and got sucked in, he has nor reference for ultimate, just loves games and loved your style and delivery. I’m 49 he’s 22.

I appreciate not having to play any Ultima games before V, which I had for C64. I think Below the Root might fit your style well, fwiw.
Never under estimate the power of old nerds and Ultima ... I wasted so many hours and blew a hard drive on these games so will always love to hear how other people went \with them
