I started MTG at Scars of Mirrodin and ever since I've been fascinated with the Phyrexians and especially Praetors. It seems they're setting up something for them and I couldn't be more excited. Not sure if I can use this card in commander cause it's pretty salty but I'd like to try!
I started playing in homelands (I feel old) I can't wait to see what happens im hoping they bring back yawgmoth as the big bad perhaps as a planeswalker

Personally it feels like they're setting up for Emrakul vs Phyrexia Inorganic monsters Vs entirely organic forces of nature Especially now that Tamiyo has been tainted by Phyrexia For me that's gotta be a sign
As a ‘magic player’ would say, this card is awful, it gets countered by pyroblast. But in all seriousness, this thing packs quite the punch, I don’t ever wanna see this thing at a table because it will take over games very fast and is a pain to remove.
I love seeing cards like this at games because it usually means someone is about to win or you get to see someone find a creative way to deal with the threat
I never got the "it dies to removal" mentality, everything dies to removal, what's important is how many removal cards can actually remove it. This card is bonkers in commander, not CEDH but still, it's a brutal card.
@@PieMan061 true but you still have to hope someone else has instant speed removal to use. you get to the Jin players turn and your never going to get it off the board.
One mechanic I think everybody is over looking is bounce, getting a copy of an artifact then bounce the original to your hand and cast it again to get another copy. Say you have Blightsteel on the field, Snap or Master Transmuter it back into your hand at the end of your opponent's turn and cast it again and boom you have 3, repeat until dead.
Before I start the video, everyone is saying this is broken and calling for a ban in commander. However there is much worse cards than this that need a ban. And to add there is cards that act like this once per turn effect that negate a spell or completely replaces it. This Jin is not THAT bad, my play group works around and finds ways to work around cards. Now I will start the video.
Someone who plays this in a game obviously just doesnt want others to be able to play the game. Cards like this are toxic for the game and i will just ditch tables if this gets played against me
@@oz2362 See that kind of outlook on the format is what's driving people to be toxic. I hate stax decks but this isn't as nearly as bad as people are making it out to be, its not a lock out tag out situation. Best of luck in your games.
@@oz2362 While people are palying this at 7 mana or trying to reanimate it I can just play contaminate and bitterblossom on turn 2 then 3, have fun playing a blue deck when you c an only make black mana. This card is far from bannable and is in no way toxic, I'd say that if you let this thing hit the field that's kinda on you for not having a way to stop it.
I'm going to be honest, my first take on this was trying to make an infinite turns deck based on this, based on Riku of two reflections. That one free counter every turn is going to be brutal in a meta without enough interaction, but it just requires two people to work together. Or a creature that kills it on etb

I'm not really worried about the card, as I think it's strong enough to be the big threat a praetor should be but not completely end a game every time it hits the field. I'm more concerned about trying to get one of the phyrexian text copies for my collection.
I expect you to do a deck tec on him, think about all the broken spells like time stretch. With certain enchantments and artifacts on the field all of a sudden you get like 10 extra turns.
@@regaleagle6533 I play blue pretty heavily and have copies of every playable extra turn card in the game. Usually yes they are slow but with all the mana rock copies they become easily playable, or I'll just drop omniscience and out value my opponents.
@@degobah144 I’m not saying it doesn’t work. The good extra turns are just expensive to get your hands on and the poor ones are in limited quantity. It’s just not a budget build.

I immediately thought of Boseiju as a counter. However, a more brutal one could just be the humble Sludge Monster. Wipe Jin-Gitaxias' text box and make him really small!
Someone in my playgroup, who loves his jank, joked about doing a Flicker/Bounce deck with this...thing. I shudder at the thought. But I also at one point had a Karn deck, so I really have no room to talk ; p
I noticed that they are releasing the Praetors in a fashion similar to a star formation game, but this time starting with Vorinclex back in Kaldheim. If that logic applies, the next Praetor will be Urabrask, then Elesh Norn, and then finally Sheoldred, and I guarantee that it will all be in the mega-cycle of set releases between a start over that was Zendikar, to what could be either Alara, or something similar due to getting shard legendaries to be released that at the end of the mega-cycles, it gets flipped between wedges, and shards.
Didn't Elesh Norn kill Sheoldred and Urabrask? Granted, being dead isn't insurmountable but still. Of course, if they do come back we may end up with a Phyrexian civil war over the whole "you murdered us" thing.
I'm trying to decide which is less threatening, this Jin or Jin's granddaddy, Memnarch. Building a deck with multiple artifact based wincons and I feel like Jin's ability could open the door for a lot more ways to win while also providing protection.
What a Lightning Rod for sure. This set looks interesting and I think for once I shall buy a box instead of singles this time. I feel it will be worth it.

This is a good card. But the Hullbreaker Horror is far more powerful. Jin-Gitaxis, one of the most feared creatures in existence, is not a patch on that native Innistrad kraken.
Just so silly, I don’t understand what wizards was thinking. Only a 5/5, no flash, can be countered.Hill breaker is a random rare, Jin gitaxias is an all time icon character… I will still play Jin and just hate hullbreaker for the rest of my life
@@frankyg821 You misunderstand my intentions. I am all for krakens being the most powerful creatures in existence. Especially good if they are given arcane-like abilities such as being able to return spells on the stack. If Jin-Gitaxis went to Innistrad, it would be schooled and know the futility of its endeavours.
Unless I am missing something something, Jin-Gitaxias only copies/counters the *first* spell it sees. Since his ability triggers at all spells but once it is triggered it can't be triggered again for the rest of the turn. Doesn't that mean that you are forced to counter/copy the first spell each turn?
This is much better than the free-cast the original Phyrexian translation claimed. I still feel like it should cost one more mana for balance, as it's still pushing the envelope, but I don't know if it would see any play at 8cmc; not that I would have much of a problem with that with such an abusive pair of effects on one card.
Can't wait until, in a few years: when the fast majority of EDH players wants this card banned or is not okay with people playing in their playgroup, when the price will be somewhere north of 30 maybe even 50 bucks, when people will eventually cave and buy this card because for years it wasn’t banned, and they want to keep up with other decks. And only then will the RC ban this card for a mix of reasons why Erayo and Iona are banned. PS: My problem isn't with the card being too strong but with the way it will go up in prize and then lose all of its value due to RC being very slow on their bans. I don't want any of those cards banned, playgroup banlist has erayo cmdr banned and Iona legal.
This card is a pain, but not ban-worthy. Even if it survives a loop around the table, you only get really good advantage, not “I’ve won just give it a second.” Admittedly, it has really good removal protection, and will require two opponents (in most cases) to take it down, but it’s oppressive enough that it will definitely be removed or you will win. Basically, it’s a pushed seven mana card. Really good, but not ban worthy.
This card is not a problem at all. The only time i see it being super good is with rule of law effects out. I think some people don't realize just how good some cards are are still aren't banned. Protean hulk is a 7 Mana card that pretty much says "when this dies, win the game." Hullbreaker horror pretty much says "get infinite mana if you control 2 Mana rocks" with all the other benefits stapled on. This card does not win you the game like many other 7 Mana cards do.
I wonder how this would work making copies of this card in play. Considering cards like Sakishima and Mirror Gallery which state that the "legend rule" doesn't apply if you have artifacts that can copy spells like Lithoform Engine and even Jin Gitaxias which will then not have to leave the battlefield. Will that mean that if you have multiple Jin's that countering the first spell triggers for all of them or that you could counter multiple spells only triggering one Jin at a time?
You can hold hands with your opponent and bait out a kill spell and the other player use their kill spell afterwards (and hopefully the player with the Jin doesn’t have a counter spell ready for the other spell)
Ngl my first thought was cast this, then cast and copy lightning Greaves and equip them both to it. Now you have to kill both of the lightning Greaves, through Jin's counter ability to then finally be able to target Jin, assuming I dont have a counterspell, Pemmin's Aura already attached, a blink spell etc etc etc.

If you kick a skyclave relic while jin is on the field it becomes very funny cause jin copies the spell kicked and now behold 6 mana that's indistructible
Since I don't see anyone else talking about this... Am I the only one who's completely *TERRIFIED* about what the Elesh Norn will do? After seeing Vorinclex in Kaldheim, and now Jin-Gitaxias in Kamigawa, I think is more than obvious that we are going to see Elesh Norn pretty soon. And another thing I'm thinking of is... Are they going to replace Sheoldred and Urabrask with something else (Since they're both dead), or they will leave the red and black slots empty?

Thats IF you can remove him. As at the very least you have to 2 for 1 yourself just to try and remove him from play.

It may have great abilities, but it's also just a 5/5 for 7 CMC. It's going to have trouble against aggressive strategies.

I REALLY want to make a commander deck on this, and run all kinds of infinite mana/turn combos that I can get for completely free with the first move.
Deadeye Navigator in the deck is a 2 drop counter target Instant, Sorcery or Artifact spell.
This goes straight into my Urza deck.

Since I don't see anyone else talking about this... Am I the only one who's completely *TERRIFIED* about what the Elesh Norn will do? After seeing Vorinclex in Kaldheim, and now Jin-Gitaxias in Kamigawa, I think is more than obvious that we are going to see Elesh Norn pretty soon.
And another thing I'm thinking of is... Are they going to replace Sheoldred and Urabrask with something else (Since they're both dead), or they will leave the red and black slots empty?
