  • @joesatchton212
    @joesatchton212 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Brilliant interview - Jeff is one of those guys who just "gets it" with gear these days. Can't help thinking I'd be like Jeff - if I had actual real talent, heart and true dedication to the craft. What a truly great time it is to be a guitar player!
    Here's an idea for a new segment - instead of simply having guests come in with their own gear, let them roam through the extensive Anderton's shop for a bit and actually build their own rig for the interview. Doesn't need to be exactly their pedals but that's the whole point - let's see them come up with different gear to try and approximate their normal sound. This would be absolutely fascinating, at least to me. :)
    Caveat: possible issues with endorsement agreements, but as a one off and as part of the global guitar community, maybe the lawyers will back off for a change....
    @Cap: You can thank me later for the idea. ;) Seriously, smary-ness aside - I truly think this would be a fantastic segment on Anderton's, for so many obvious reasons. Think about it....

    fair play to lee for doing this one, as far as I know shoegaze and alternative music is not really the kind of music he personally is really into but he still made an effort. I can imagine it's not super easy to ask the right questions or make the right comments in a conversation where your own knowledge on the subject area is much less than the guest.

    • @ampman40
      @ampman40 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I second that. It wouldn't hurt Anderton's to bring in a guy (if they can find a good one) for some of their reviews who has an indie/alternative background with some shoegaze knowledge. Their lack of reverse reverb/delay knowledge is apparent when they always seem to dismiss those settings as "I don't know when you'd use this but.....". Plus they never seem to like jazzmasters and jaguars very much and I love those guitars, dammit!!!

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ampman40 Then they would have to bring in a heavy metal guy, a death metal guy, a classic rocker, a punk rocker, a pop artist, a jazz guy, a blues man, Tool, etc..- right? Because there are just as many ppl watching who love those genres and want to see them featured and respected. I get why they can't start catering to anyone sub section of the audience- because then you have to cater to everyone or leave someone out.

    Thank you very much for this awesome interview ! I'm a 27 yo french guy ; I played the guitar from 13/14 years, but I've kind of stoped between 22 et 26 yo for no reason. All the Andertons videos (with also the Norman Rare Guitare videos and their fantastic guitar player Michael Lemmo) are the reason why I said to myself a year ago "wow, you are missing something, you need to try again". So I've bought an Epiphone Sheraton 2 Pro VS and started a new guitarist life, wich is one of the best thing that happened to me in the last years ! So thank you. Also my suggestions for upcoming rockstars in the next Captain Show :
    Captain meets Noel Gallagher (such un underatted guitar player)
    Captain meets John Squire
    Captain meets Dave Grohl
    Captain meets Ihsahn (from Emperor)
    Captain meets Josh Turner (from the Other Favorites)
    Cheers and greetings !

    Cool....before I even picked up a Guitar there was a great magical mystery around all the great guitar players I was listening too....how are they making that noise how are they playing that quickly....then once I'd picked up a guitar and started to learn and dig deeper into the instrument the mystery disappeared....but an enjoyment took its place when learning your favourite song and finally being able to play along to your favourite bands....and the feeling of achievement and satisfaction the instrument gives you is almost like an addiction....but what a great addiction to have....

Absolutely brilliant player and really knowledgable with the complicated digital setups required these days. He even Likes to work with the techs to make sure the frequency ranges are all perfect for the gigs. And he’s currently learning to play jazz. I think of all the "new" members that have come and gone since Billy reactivated the Smashing Pumpkins in 2007, Jeff is the one he's connected with best. Billy even admitted at one point that the only other full band member for a while aside from himself, was Jeff. By the time James Iha came back, Jeff had been in the band for a decade, so it would have been shitty to drop Jeff like that when he helped keep the band going for that long.

      Don't feed Gangplank k? I think he likes to use Instagram as more of a way to connect to fans so avoids technical questions. If you Google Billy Corgan with terms like guitar rig and gear. You’ll find A TON of stuff where he explains what pedals/guitars/amps he’s using going back to the nineties. Yeah his ear is phenomenal for torn and he really understands and explains it all really well. I could sit and listen to him talk about music all day. Whether it’s about gear or bands. There’s a great interview with him and Lars Ulrich talking about their influences and experiences that’s phenomenal on TH-cam. Trust me. Mick about with giggle and you’ll get al the answers but be warned. You won’t get EQ settings and when he describes how he uses his amps, it’s all good but you’d have to be very well off to afford some of the stuff he’s used. So it doesn’t really apply unless you can afford a Marshall stack and vintage preamps lol. There’s even a video where he displays the Siamese Dream Big Muff pedal with the settings clearly marked in marker pen. I’m constantly surfing for info on his tones.

    Seems like a top guy. I'm sure he was credited with being the one to get this current incarnation of Smashing pumpkins functioning.

    Lee you need educating on Dinosaur Jr! Clearly you never went to a indie rock club between 1988 and 1990! 😂

    First pedal that should have been added to that board was a tuner.

      @@endocry : I just drive to boston to see the show. I'd jump off a bridge if I had a Boston accent.
