HOW TO - Restring a pull starter on a small engine

It summer time - this best time to do a little maintenance on the snow blower! Up here in the north the snow is only a few days away soo... gotta be ready for that white stuff!
The process on a snow blower or lawn mower or just about any other small engine with a pull string is the same. Components are different, removal is different but same process.
This example:
WHITE outdoor products, snow boss 410 model: 318-440-190
Tecumseh engine model: HS40-55556K
1. Remove pull starter mechanism from the engine
This mechanism has 4 nuts holding it to the engine cover.
2. Measure and cut to length the new string
Can pull out the old string and hold the clock spring to measure the original string. Mongo recommend cutting the new string a little long to accommodate the 2 knots and little extra just in case. (can always cut it shorter if needed)
NOTE: Mongo pick up some paracord to replace the standard string with.
General string have a working load of about 20lbs
Most paracord have a working load of about 40lbs
Mongo always recommend at least 40lbs working load for a pull string device. Keeps it working and lasting longer than normal string.
3. With the string pulled out of the device and the clock spring held firm, Cut the old string and remove it.
4. Continue holding the clock spring, Slide the new string through the small hole of the clock spring fasten a basic knot and pull it through the handle receiver.
5. Thread the string through the handle. (This handle had a washer as well be sure to go through the washer. Not all handle have one) hold onto the handle and string and release the clock spring tension slowly. This will determine were to create the knot for the handle. Make sure when the handle is fully seated in the receiver there is still tension on the string.
If there is not, pull the string out a little more then make the knot. cut off any string past the knot.
If there is, lots of tension make a basic knot and release the spring and handle.
6. Reassemble and verify operation.
