As a social justice film maker & psychotherapist, MSW.. I appreciated Dr. Ragins explanation about perception -- Seeing a mental illness from the client's perspective -- The HAND analogy was extremely powerful. Thank you, Dr. Ragins and NAMI LA for this powerfully informative video. Kindly, Ali B.

...Shake his hand??? Someone roaming around with aluminum foil on his head is possibly quite paranoid and would regard your approach with suspicion. His meds probably DO need to be adjusted, assuming he hasn't stopped taking them altogether...

@Gio Vilomar No, I would not approach. Leave that to specially trained and designated individuals in the community. These people can be extremely violent if they are responding to command hallucinations or are lost in psychosis due to drugs or illness.

@@luvisadogfromhell yes, "these people," who may have a legitimate diagnosis of schizophrenia or may be high as fuck on God knows what, as opposed to people like me who are just trying to get through the day without being randomly assaulted, robbed, stabbed, shot or worse. do you ever watch the news or read a damn newspaper? even cnn occasionally covers the more horrifying stories of innocent people being victimized.
