Nice review.. Spot on about the shift lever, I noticed that riding my new R18 home last month. However, super easy adjustment to fix. Took me less than 5 minutes to adjust the shift lever and now it’s perfect ! I I’ve been riding for over 40 years and owned 2 Harley cruisers along the way. The R18 is just wonderfully original and I absolutely love it! Now ,I can’t wait for the snow to melt so I can ride !!
@@DonGoldstein-b7q sorry I’ve never seen this comment till now but that’s brilliant to know about the shift lever!!! Hope you’re still enjoying your R 18 👍🏻😊
I own the First Edition of the R18. I totally agree on the stock pipes not being loud enough. It only sounds good if it's idling. I'm currently shopping for the best sounding pipes or modifications to the originals. I only ride the R18 in the Rock or Rain mode. The torque in the Rock mode makes this bike tremendously fun! The Rain mode is very functional in the rain or on gravel. I've rode it in all types of rain and it rides great. I can do without having cruise control. However, not having a gas gage does suck. I have to reset the trip to see how far I've gone all the time. The 42mpg is not accurate in the Rock mode if you are getting on it a lot as I do. I've found it gets closer to 32mpg. I've noticed the shifting to be much smoother as you brake it in. I do agree on how easy this bike is to drive, and having reverse is wonderful considering the bike weighs 761lbs. It's balanced so damn well it's quite amazing. Considering both heads are getting equal air do to the boxer design you don't loose any power as you do from one cylinder being hotter than the other in many V-Twin configurations. I've had bikes since I was 5 years old, and this is by far my favorite bike I've owned! I'm very happy to find your channel! Great review! I look forward to checking out all of your reviews!
Thanks for your lovely comment and so sorry it’s taken me so long to reply! Somehow I’ve missed loads of comments on this post! 😕 That’s awesome you own the first edition and love it so much - sounds like we agree a lot on this bike and it’s positives/negatives! Seriously is an awesome bike though, so different to what I expected when I saw it come out - always interests me to speak to those that love it 😊
I’ve had a couple of test rides on these and I loved it. Gets quite a lot of hate on line but it’s a huge laugh to ride. For me, not sure it’s an only bike, but I’d love one for sunny days 👍
You’re very right about the online hate! It’s a shame because as much as it may not be for everyone, it’s a really unique cool cruiser and there’s a lot to love about it I think. Like you, I’m not sure I’d want to own one as my only bike but yes perfect for sunny rides!
Its about time we had a proper rock chick reviewing bikes. Such a breath of fresh air from all the old geezers on here, you're gonna do well girl. Great video too.
I’m in Australia Courtney & bought mine in December 2020. Absolutely love it! Never had an issue at all with controls or the like. I’m a size 9.5 & 6’. My 2 complaints are yep no cruise & a hard seat. But I have no butt.🤭 Lack of fuel gauge isn’t a real issue as the light comes on around 90km or about 56 miles. I’m looking to buy the Atlas manual cruise control setup if I can’t have the cruise retro fitted. Enjoy the bike & I hope you & yours had a great Christmas!🎄🍻👍🏼😎🇦🇺
I’ll have to test ride one this Spring. Looks gorgeous, but I’m curious about the riding position at my height with the cylinder heads being that close to the shins.
Nice review Courtney. Subscribed! Just got here into your channel and you do great and are an inspiration! Also Indin Springfield and Heritage Classic are there...I malw many kms a year and reliability is a must for me and after many manu bikes, Japanese ones are by far the most reliable...but ...nothing is as beutiful as these three for me, actually as a bike and I into make other kind of riding, just for a change. So Ill have to meke a test deive of them...Leaning angle is something that cuts fun, had othwr Harleys and you know what happens...but, r18 is so so beautiful....must be a dream riding it. The bike looks amazing, and this is very good review. Only thing I would personally be worried about is how much legroom I would have at 6'2 + with those massive cylinders sticking out that much. And if my legs fit I'd probably be very warm that close to the engine
Nice review. Though, ... so as the bike is much is heavy, bulky and IMPRESSIVE, you are sOOO GORGEOUS, ... so much that I completely forgot about the bike and your review. I am being SINCERE. PERFECTION!
Nice review. I just bought the TC and it has everything tech BMW has to offer. Mine has floor boards and my feet at size 13, US and I have lots of room. I haven’t thought of wanting it louder... yet... Did you buy it?
I like the R18 - just wondering if BMW should also bring out a real retro looking bike. Retro bikes seem to be all the rage at the moment. Imagine bringing back a R75/6 boxer look-a-like.
@@aktr9955 haha yes more recent videos I have hopefully addressed the old issues I had with sound quality, it’s taken some time and plenty of mistakes 😅👊🏼

Hey Courtney, nice review. I have just bought the FE in New Zealand. It came standard with the radar cruise control. As for the fuel gauge, I simply zero the trip recorder for each decent run knowing it is good for at least 275kms before I need to stress. It does have a reserve light though so not a biggie.
Hey! Yeah all very valid and good work arounds for sure! I know it’s not standard on a lot of models - it’s just something I think should be given the price point of the bike 😊 very helpful tips though for anyone who has bought the R18 - thanks!
I guess it’s a preference thing. I know a lot of people don’t like that you cant move the pegs forward but mids are significantly more comfortable for your back on long trips and means you can stand and vary your body positioning whereas forwards may feel more stretched out but the body positioning is rubbish for long trips as so hard on your back! 🙈 but I do get it - if the forwards are a deal breaker then the R 18 just ain’t for you I guess! 😊🤙🏼
SO as the BMW R18 is the ARTWORK in the industrilal sculpting world so you are the ARTWORK in the GODS industrial world of CREATING WOMEN as YOU ARE! All the BEST!
Apologies for my late response! Understandable - the mids are better on your back for the longer journeys but I do get just preferring to have your legs stretched 😊 I think that’s a big deal breaker for a lot of people with the R 18 unfortunately
All bikes are great ,and everyone's tastes are different, not a lover of cruisers, and a bit lardy for me , sports or super naked, especially my Aprilia tuono v4, enjoy ride safe.
@@CourtneyScarlettMoto Hi Courtney, the newer Aprilia tuono 1100 v4 is supposed to be on another level to my 2014 1000v4, I just love that engine, and soundtrack. Have fun and stay safe.
When you see an R18 with a repaint, you realise how dull and and low-end that black paint looks which is a problem when you check the price tag. Maybe they were going for a Ford Model T look.
You look very small on a huge beautiful machine when riding it....I bet it would give you trouble in town city traffic....why not try a Royal Enfield or a bike more for your size ?
I had no problems with it in city traffic - anyone that knows how to really ride knows the size of the bike doesn’t matter. It’s all in the control when riding 😊 I have zero interest in a royal Enfield - I have seen smaller people that me boss around even bigger machines!
@@CourtneyScarlettMoto You aren't doing 3 oil services every 5k miles for crankcase, primary clutch and then gearbox, like on a 2017 on Milwaukee 8 HD. You will do 6k oil changes for 1 hole, and rear pinion drive on the rear wheel oil change with hypoid gear oil at 12k on the back end on the BMW, so 20% more miles before it needs servicing.
