New subscriber here. Great channel and I like your bubbly personality. I don't own a classic but I am old enough to remember seeing many of these lovely cars on the roads when I was a youngster. So, your videos are a bit of a nostalgia trip for me. Keep doing what your doing and enjoying your classic cars.
Of course you can run a classic car reguarly without issue. They're SO much simpler to maintain, and if you have some basic mechanical knowledge, are something you can look after yourself without having to take it to a garage. A few basic tools and carrying one or two spares and theres no reason why not. My 45 year old Allegro has often passed modern euro boxes with their bonnets up on the side of the motorway while i chuckle at the tax exemption and and minimal running costs. Its a no brainer. And for all the "oh their not safe, what if i have a crash"? slow the F down..people drive way too fast these days, relying on there brakes to save them at the last second. Don't be in such a rush and enjoy the experience of actually driving rather than rushing everyhwhere!.
Lovely Morris Minor and great video Steph, I have a 65 2 door called Miranda, she will undergo some welding work fairly soon along with a few other jobs, which will hopefully enable me to go to the MMOC national rally next year 🤞
Steph put a 1275 single carb and a miget 3.9 rear diff in Mary its the engine the minor should have had. Better for a long run and much better on petrol. extra 5 or 6 mpg.
Mimicking my mind. My mk1 r5 was taken off the road on drive it day. Needs body work and allowing the insurance to expire preventing me from using it was the only way to stop me making the rust worse. Been 4 months, I miss it like hell. The 10 hasn't brought the summer I had quite hoped for, but hoping to have it sorted for oh so retro. Classic ownership can be very testing on us sometimes, mentally as well as financially

I've just got myself a 69 minor (scotland) and I think I forgot that other people look at it, I get great anxiety especially going from an automatic not driven a manual in 2 years but I'm so determined to make this my everyday car because it's just gorgeous and like £1200+ a year cheaper than my recent cars! Have you any gospel tips for a novis owner? (My dad owned classics and I just feel like hes with me when I can hear/ smell everything about a classic!) ❤
A lovely little car , which I remember with affection . A bit twitchy at the back end if you pushed it . Having said that , in 1965 , I drove the 120 miles from Peterborough to Bradford in 3 hours , in a blizzard , without any problems .
Well now massive in our family. My first was a 1953 MM I found in a garage where it had sagged for 15 years. Took an age to restore to original configuration. I got the engine parts from the Swiss Army who had recently scrapped their Centurion tanks. These had the Side Valve engine as a slave engine. OKA 432 (I have no idea if it still exists. We called it Uncle Arthur. Wife had a Pink one and then I got serious and put a Ital 1.3 engine into a Traveller, Ford five speed box. Rear Midget diff and front discs. Tramp bars..Roll bars and of course we called it Trevor the Traveller.
Just an idea but have you thought about Patreon or maybe PayPal (ie: tip jar), even if it was just a bit of extra $$ for go-go juice?! Anyhow, have a think about it, cheers.
What size engine does it have, 948cc or 1098cc? Regarding the head-gasket change, the "A" series engine with its steel head is an easy job and inexpensive compared with more modern car engines fitted with aluminium heads that either need the head machined or replaced when the head gasket fails!

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me the correct name for the original light blue that Mary is painted. When l bought my first car at 17yo it was a light blue 2 door 1959 Morris Minor. I didn't know about the 948's propensity for wearing out rear main bearings. Like Mary my car began to use lot's of oil soon after l got it. I had no confidence in my mechanical ability so l traded it for a 1959 Karmen Ghia convertible with a Judson supercharger and an Abarth exhaust system. That car brought out my desire to learn to repair my own cars. This included a transaxle replacement, a valve job body work and a full respray. The truth is all if the repairs could have been avoided if l had not driven the car so hard. I had 2 wrecks with it. Both wrecks could have killed me if l hadn't made correct snap decisions.

But she has a hole under her driver seat. Where do you get your bodywork done? Iv seen you go Kelmarsh, are you far from there? X

Wohooo, I've just bought a 1954 Series 2 Morris Minor 'split-screen' in black. Lovely condition! Just got a few little jobs to do to get it back on the road and then I'll hopefully be bumbling around the country to club meets. Exciting times! :))
The old tin worm getting a grip there. It's doing ok though. My first car was a 65 2 door in Old English White. I was a mechanic then so I kept it in pretty good order. Still at 10 years old the floor was patch welded and the chassis. Considering The 10 year old Fiat I've got now is as good as it was new just shows how far car quality has progressed. The Moggy was a reliable car and simple to work on. It only let me down once in Weston under Lizard when my dad came out to tow me home. It turned out the previous owner had fitted a mini fuel pump which wasn't up to the job and eventually burned out. Something I had failed to notice but that was the only breakdown in 3 years.
One small point Steph, would it not be better to have your old engine rebuilt ? Apart from the originality do you know the history/condition of the second hand unit ? Personally I'd have your engine rebuilt then you know it's good for thousands of miles worth of adventures.

Hi Steph. My first car was a 1961 two-door 948 Minor, which I ultimately tipped over one night! I'd had two more since, and other 948, and a 1098 Traveller which got stolen! I've always had a soft spot for Moggies, and it was great seeing you burble about in Mary! One thing, I could her what I thought was a suspension clonk every so often. Can I ask you, before you try many more trips to check for movement in the lower trunnions? One gave way on my Marina, and caused a lot of damage! Anyway, great vids, keep up the good work, and I'll catch you later! Take care! :-)
Hey Chris! All the trunnions and suspension bits have been checked v v recently so are absolutely fine. It’s just a bit of a rough road we filmed on. Don’t think the council have fixed the pot holes since the Victorian era 😂😂😂😂😂

I really wish the current owners of Morris/Austin Rover would do a modernised version of the Morris Minor - there's so much styling potential there (a bit like BMW did with the Mini)

Hey Matthew! Consistent posting and being friendly and replying to comments has worked for me. I do get quite a few nasty comments and comments about my weight and appearance and would urge anyone going into YT to consider how they’ll handle that sort of stuff. I find it horrible at times and it gets me down but I get loads of lovely comments too. So it evens out x
Hey Charles! It’s easier to just get a new engine. It’s got low oil pressure anyway. Needs a full rebuild so I’ll just buy a replacement unit and send mine off in part exchange.

Can you run them on unleaded as they originally ran on the old 4 star petrol , what sort of speeds can you get out of them 😊
I can reach and exceed 70 with great ease in a 1098. I’m on an unleaded head in my Morris Minors so I haven’t had any issues.

It’s not been restored and been on the road best part of 50 years. I look more ropey than Mary on a bad day and she’s nearly twice my age haha.

Engine oil seal is a common enough fault if you can get the part. I had one go in a Mitsubishi van at 300,000 km

Hey Matthew! Consistent posting and being friendly and replying to comments has worked for me. I do get quite a few nasty comments and comments about my weight and appearance and would urge anyone going into YT to consider how they’ll handle that sort of stuff.
I find it horrible at times and it gets me down but I get loads of lovely comments too. So it evens out x
Hey Charles! It’s easier to just get a new engine. It’s got low oil pressure anyway. Needs a full rebuild so I’ll just buy a replacement unit and send mine off in part exchange.

But I always find myself passionately talking about my cars when people ask me, so inspired by yourself and hubnut ect I thought why not give it a go lol. I plan to video blog about my own car projects ect so hopefully I can get some GD content ? And maybe join forces with others 😉
