    Brad, the most important part is: no one got hurt. I have a 357XP that was in the wrong spot when a tree came down on it. Thankfully the oil tank was fixed with some JB Weld. Stills runs like champ. New parts and saws are made everyday, you are not. Lesson learned and now we all are smarter. I give you a ton of respect for showing what happened, passing on knowledge, and being real even in a bad situation that any of us could be in. If it has not happened to you, it will. It’s not if it is when. 👍🏻👍🏻
    Edit note: A great source of chain saw, small engine repairs that I found through another channel is The Greasy Shop Rag, Scott does a great job showing repairs. His boss lets him video the repairs and show the work he does. 👍🏻

    That’s a bummer! I hate when I have to spend a bunch of money on Tuesday just to get back what I had on Monday. Especially when it’s due to something I could have avoided. And I’ve done it a hundred times. Live and “hopefully “ learn…

    I did something similar with my MS440. Not a great feeling and won't do that again. Glad you get it fixed! - Tim

    Glad you could fix it! I screwed up last year and ran 2.5 tanks of unmixed gas through my old saw before it alerted me... but then I had a reason to buy a 500 so it was all good 😊

    Brad, i had a big husqvarna chainsaw with a 28 inch bar that a log roll off trailer right on top of saw. Handle took most of the hit and it did damage the cover over spark plug. Long story short replace handle and cover new spark plug to be safe and it crank right up. Yes i been there too. Have a great day be safe

    Sorry about your saw man, we've all done something similar at one point or another. Thank you for being honest about it and turning a negative into a good lesson on how to do a very detailed repair. I'm sure someone will benefit from your experience and great video 👍

    Thanks for sharing Brad. It's cool that you showed this project even though you didn't know exactly how it would go ahead of time. Hopefully I won't have to do this to my 500i, but if I do, you've made a good reference video!

    I just had to replace the handle assembly on my 046. It was old and brittle and broke on me while cutting a huge tree. Bar got pinched I pulled back and it snapped lol. I wasn’t happy cuz I knew it was expensive but it’s worth putting the money into cuz it’s a stihl and has a lot of life left. Really not a bad job to do but it is time consuming and gotta make sure you know how it all came apart ha

    Ran over my 572XP G with my dump trailer in the dark because I was too lazy to open my tonneau cover and put the saw away when I was done using it. Didn't break anything but it definitely has a few scars now. 🙄🙄🙄

    Even if you don't cuss - I think a few choice words are in order for this situation. FYI for future reference on small engine/chainsaw repair I would recommend TH-camrs "Chickanic" or "Steve's Small Engine Saloon" both great channels for repairs. Nice repair sir. Stay safe

    I wonder if it's possible to get ahold of Stihll and get a reproduction of the original tank sticker with the proper serial number then it would look 100% legit and nobody would know that it ever had any damage?

    Good fix, I was a little surprised at how pricey that handle was. Not even a tariff on it. Will be more pricey when foreign parts get tariffs

    • @WoodysRTBFirewood
      @WoodysRTBFirewood 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes bring on the tariffs, it’s just going to drive up the cost of everything but it’s certainly going to buy the orange clown some votes but screw the consumers,

  • @wayneanderson991
    @wayneanderson991 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'm puzzled as to why you think after market parts are a no go on a chainsaw that was not made here in the U.S. to begin with. If the parts are just plastic who cares. If it were the piston and cylinder or case halves I get it. I think you will be surprised at where all the parts come from on your 500i. The Stihl tax is higher than most taxes we pay these days. I would never pay $177 for a plastic tank that maybe cost $25 to manufacture unless that was my only option, IMHO. I know you did not ask for my opinion but it baffles me how peoples feelings seem to trump common sense when it comes to spending your hard earned money. Again were just talking about replacing a piece of plastic to cut firewood. 🤔

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve built 3 farmertec saws and rebuilt several others with aftermarket parts. I’ve had 2 aftermarket gas tanks leak where it’s fused to the body of the handle. Some of the plastic is also sometimes not an exact fit and needs persuasion on occasion. This is my primary saw so I wanted to be sure it was right.

    • @wayneanderson991
      @wayneanderson991 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FirewoodattheFurnace I guess that could persuade a person to go the direction you did, but I would venture to guess you have been unlucky with the farmertec tanks, maybe early production versions. I have 7 Farmertec's currently and so far no tank leaks. I do think the current production aftermarket tanks are better than some of the early ones from a quality stand point. Hopefully you won't find your saw with your skid steer anymore!
