I almost threw out a big camvas and gave up on art yesterday because I thought I couldn't paint leaves. Mom came home, saw it sitting on my easel and told me how beautiful she thought it was. I chose to believe her and kept on going, it's turning out gorgeous!
My problem is fear of failure, fear of it not being perfect everytime I try something. I keep telling myself you can't be perfect at everything, you have to practice. Just enjoy it! Still working on it though 🙁
just remember that you learn from your failure a lot more then your success. Its part of the process so, just embrace it. In reality nothing's perfect even the thing you think's perfect, other could find list of flaws but that's what makes it interesting.
I could not agree more! To be an artist, you need to think like an artist. It's about seeing the world differently and allowing yourself to harness the beauty you see in the world in order to capture it in your work to elicit the same feeling in others!
I feel like this is one of the best artist tips videos I have seen. You put every tip in multiple perspectives that can be seen by multiple people while also humbling anything people have come to expect from their art when they compare it to other artists.
Wow. She really has good tips and she doesn't try to bully you into believing what she says. Some people online act like art bullies, creating fear in the minds of the audience and bringing their own personal negativity and problems to the video. I really hate that. Others treat art like it's a science and what they say goes. Art is not a science but I do agree it takes practice, practice, practice. Thank you Katie, for not being like those others.
Thank you for your tips, I did not paint for more than a month as I have been struggling with it. But now I know I will continue. And last but nor least thanks for the 2 months free offer on a side I didn't even know existed.
Thank you for your update! So much..the tip of buying cheap supplies is so to the point to me.I put so much money in art supplies when I am just an amateur which makes me guilty about it.. BTW love your aesthetics and your voice
I'd just like to say I have been following you for a while, I'm a relatively new art wannabe, who is enjoying my journey. I absolutely love your channel, the diverse things you post, vlogs, mood projects and advice please please please continue to do and post whatever floats you boat at the time it's great. This video made me chuckle I personally couldn't see you stabbing a painting but it did make me lol. Your a star thanks for your time. PS my favourite of yours to date is your stag painting it was epic!
This is the best most helpful and relatable video! Love this so much it’s helped me a lot also I absolutely adore your work they are all beautiful 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Number 6 First time I heard someone advocates cheap art supplies! What’s funny was that last night I finally put my professional grade tube paint in a pan palette, using just one dollop from each color, afraid to waste pricey paint. I had to use up the tiny bit from swatches making into doodle shapes on spare watercolor paper. I bet if I paid $20 for 48 tubes I’d be a generous mood when using them, or at least I’d fill up each pan. I actually returned expensive watercolor papers for cheap watercolor papers because I just couldn’t put anything down on expensive paper, fearing that I’d mark it with something “not worthy”. The cheaper paper I use now doesn’t mess up my mind as much. Thank you for these tips. They may sound like hearsay uttered by many artists but boy you are right on the money on these tips. I fancy myself being creative in my mind but in reality I freeze by fear, perfectionistic attitude, and laziness. The only thing I do is to look at the world in an artist mindset in composite, light/shadow, colors, and shapes. I am working on being discipline, trying to do something everyday putting lines, colors, shapes to paper. At the end, it’s all about regular exercise to get better and to keep on re-ignite passion and creativity.
Thanks Katie loved this video first time round. I’m not that great at technology but keep trying. I’d love to join your class but don’t know how to do it or how much it costs or how to pay for it. Will take my sketch book to France (loved that video of you sketching on holiday) and take time to sketch. That’s where I first saw you on you tube and have loved your videos. Thank you 🙏 so much xxx
Absolutely gorgeous art! You are an amazing artist. Love the comment about stabbing a few paintings, ha! I can relate to that frustration. I have to admit I laughed out loud at your comment and facial expression on that. Also, I really like your glass diffuser teapot. May I ask where I could find one for myself? And thank you so much for all of your encouraging words and kind heart. Many Happy Blessings and much success to you Katie. I really enjoy your videos and your art!
Ha ha pressed send by mistake my teacher said janet has not got confidence in her own capabilities and this still sticks with me but just listening to your beautiful voice and watching you give such good tips is so good. Please keep us inspired. Thank you 😊 x
I love ur video's, it just makes my heart feel so peaceful. I don't know which is it Ur art or ur voice that gives me these feelings. And btw thanks for the video it really helps us to be motivated! ❤
Love all these tips. Thanks Katie! (I did get a chuckle on taking note of someone’s face. I can see how that would be helpful. Wonder how to be subtle at that, so as not to offend 🙂)
Really great tips! !! Will certainly rewatch. Fear certainly stifles creativity. I think most of us battle with that. To keep moving forward and enjoying is a great practice! I wonder for beginners from your experience would you recommend starting with oils or acrylics?
Hi Kate, thanks for spirit after i wach all you vidio then make me feeling comfortable, that i always not feelt confidence with same my acrylic painting i always thinking same body pain better then me,but when i share in club art they're said my painting is all beautiful, the mean point i always felt not confidence. by the way thanks to sharing you experiences !with love all the way from Hong kong!
Hello! I am thrilled to have found you ... you and your art work are amazing :). May I ask, do you do a final varnish on your acrylic paintings? Is it necessary? I have been finding that I like my pieces without the finish. Again, your channel is so inspiring!! 🌷. Thank you!
You're right - it's so important to enjoy the process of creating art. Obsessing too much about the final result just makes me stressed and it also used to paralyse me; I didn't even want to start with a project. Gotta stay in the moment and enjoy it I think 😊
@@1ELKSY9 It might be satisfying atm but I personally see it as a waste of art (paint/ paper..). as you know such feeling changes with times & down the line might've given own-self some fresh perspective.
I understand how it can be so frustrating when you just don't want to paint a certain painting. Once I was trying to paint a night sky and clouds, and for some reason, I just could get the clouds to look right. I went over them so many times that I began to despise the painting and just didn't want to finish it. I ended up tossing the canvas in the trash and felt good about it. The next day I saw it hanging on the wall in my parent's bedroom! Turns out my Dad had salvaged it and wondered why I threw it out. 😅 Lol! It still hangs there to this day. 😂🤦🏻♀️
Thank you for all your brilliant videos. Great learning. One more tip. Paint without inhibition, my best paintings are when I paint experimenting and freely going along with my intuition without being afraid of spoiling it. Think if you spoil it, you can give it to someone you don't like. 🤣😂

Granted (for endurance) stabbing or destroying a painting can be very cathartic ♡
