I'm with you on the reference photo tip! I can never imagine beautiful scenery in my mind because it's too hard for me to do. References are the best because they help you with colours and value
Katie- I absolutely adore your videos. I’m new to art and acrylic and I’ve loved all of your tutorials. I find them SO helpful. You’re the best TH-camr! I love your tips on learning to draw first and painting in black and white. Would you consider a video for these? I have NO idea where to start! I do not understand value at all- haha! Thank you for inspiring me 🌟☺️ xxx
Finally. I got to see your vlogs again. You’re the reason I got inspired to paint 5 years ago, then I lost in touch and now here I am looking for an Inspiration because I wanted to back in that 5 years ago me who loves to paint 🥰 I really do watch and follow your tutorials before ✨🎨
thank you for these tips. I so often I start a painting and you are right half way through, I want to stop. If I carry on it does eventually become what I want. I just love painting
Mine is: use all the reference photos, not just one. If I'm using only one photo as reference it sometimes feels dull, like I'm just copying the elements, what's the point, and so on... So I use different references to give it "a twist", different leaf shapes, different positions, different backgrounds, different anything really. It's a really nice way to put more of what I love in my work and makes me feel more creative 🖤✨
@@KatieJobling thank you Katie for this video and also for each video u post, just love your personality and the way you inspire me😍 Could you realllly please make a video, short one, just with how to set up the payment in etsy shop. I mean for example i live in UK just same u do, and if someone orders from China, Usa, how do I know how much they need to pay for everything and one more imprtant thing, how will I know of somebody ordered from me, and you know, paid for the painting or print for example..will I be notified? Thank you, hope u ll see this and reply,❤
Gosh you are so talented! Love your instructions too...so encouraging and positive! I have no imagination but love painting.. and i am so cheating and drawing from you!😘
I absolutely love your work and videos and you have been such a phenomenal inspiration and motivator for me with my painting. Thank you so much for all you share of yourself and your work!
My biggest painting tips are much like yours, it's so important to understand values before painting and reference photos are a must! Even monotone paintings can be realistic or incredibly detailed if that's what you're going for. Absolutely adore your videos, Katie!
Great comment about the ugly stage. I must remember what you said next time it happens I definitely struggle at that point, patience is not a strong point for me. Thanks
Thank you!! I really love the way you paint. I am learning so much by watching you. Slowly, with your tips i am learning to find my own style. So the tip to push further the ugly stage is the tip for me!! Thanks!!
#11. Come to this channel and watch a sweet English girl cheer up your whole day before you get started! Haven't painted in months and I'm coming here first to get the proper mindset and inspiration! Thanks Katie!
Thanks For the Tip's and Inspiration, Value Practice is kinda new to me so thank you i'm going to try this one out.Don't really have any Tips. I think you covered some really great one's.I will Just add that yes use tools like reference,Straight edges,Circle templates etc.sure practice free hand/imagination, but they are there for a reason for well, most of us who create art. Thanks Katie :)
All ur tips are awesome and very helpful ... mainly ur tip no.9 is really important As many of us think it should turn out as awesome piece everything we paint and if turns out bad and we think we can't paint or it's not cup of our tea ...thank you so much ❤ once again
Totally love this video 🤩 Katie!! with all the video snippets of previous videos. I can't tell you how much your tips have helped me in the past too. Thanks for refreshing all that. And just happy that you are back 🤗
Katie, you are adorable. And you are right about paintings having an ugly stage. Too often, I’ll just set that painting aside hoping that an inspiration will hit me later. I think it’s probably a better idea to just keep pushing through and getting it done. What are your thoughts about unfinished paintings?
Thanks Jennifer 🥰 I talked about this in my recent vlog. I have many unfinished paintings in my studio waiting for the inspiration to hit. And it definitely can happen, even years later. My thoughts are that art is there to serve YOU, so if you’re not expressing what you want through a specific painting, save it and move onto something that is serving your needs in that moment. What do you feel about it?
@@KatieJobling I really want to see it but I could only find the watercolor stag tutorial and mini stag painting Katie. Does it have a different thumbnail?
I always learn from you and I always wish I had seen your videos earlier and not had to learn the hard way! I have loads of inspiration photos but I'm sort of clueless about considering the light source on my art. Since I rarely paint outside, I would love your tips on how to think about that and then doing the right highlights, shadows etc. I'm painting daily and eagerly await YOUR videos. Thx!!!
Thank you for all you help!! I am doing oils mostly, but your such an inspiration. Thank you, Susie. Don't often share, but working on this for about a week.
Thanks for the quick, simple and valuable 10 tips!! I am a beginner artist and trying to feel comfortable with oil paints and all the mediums as well as acrylic paints. These tips are great for all paintings. i really have enjoyed using the Winsor and Newton water soluble oil paints, and the colors are lovely.
I've started painting only a few months ago, but your channel is definitely one of my favourite! I am learning so much, so thank you for taking the time to give us some tips. I will personally give a go to tip number 1 as I am struggling with shadow and light at the moment!
My biggest tip for painting is observing things for a long time to get a really nice idea about colours, shadows and next art piece. Believe in yourself, it may get a boring when not getting the desired outcome but you will get there.....
they're soooo valuable! I must admit I'm guilty on tip number 6. I mean I can draw a bit, but I'm not a master in it I'll say! So I'm going to get myself a sketchbook and start drawing more! I absolutely love your channel so much! And I hope I can get as good as you are. I started painting last year and have painted around 17 paintings now 😊
That’s amazing Luna 🙌🏻😄 I’m going to join you and practice my drawing skills too! Since having a baby and not spending as much time creating I’ve definitely lost it a bit 😆
@@KatieJobling thanks for the reaction omg!!! 🥺 I'm going to buy a new sketchbook tomorrow and start drawing the roses I photographed yesterday! 💪🏻🙌🏻 Also feel pretty inspired and drawn to Macaws so I'm going to practice! Curious how the B&W could help me further! Thanks again! 😜😘
I definitely agree with the ugly stage tip!!! There is always a point or two in each piece where we think it will never turn out right, but most of the time it does and becomes a new favorite painting! I would also say to try all different styles you’re interested in! I know for me, I thought I had a style/certain subject I preferred to paint, but once I tried other things, I realized how many other styles/subjects I loved to paint!😊
Hullo Alice refers to THAT phase in a painting as its "awkward teenager phase". Even Bob Ross had them on his show. He always knew where he was taking the painting, but on some episodes, he'd say, "I'll bet your saying, 'You have REALLY done it this time!' You may be right! Let's see." ...and those are often the best ones. These are great tips!

Thanks Katie. I am trying to dabble in water based oils. My subject s a Southern Georgia Oak and the painting has gone thru it’s ugly stage a few times but with every layer it is slowly improving..
Yasss... thank you Katie for your another amazing tips. I once started painting with acrylic on my cold pressed paper sketchbook and it doesn't turn quite good sadly. I think it's true that we need to keep on going even if we're in the ugly stage. Lots of loves~~~
you paint beautiful things and you always have good food for thought as I progress in my painting. Can you talk more about values and painting in black and white and it's application to landscape painting? I also want to learn more about perspective. Thank you so much!
Thank you. I appreciate your tips and love your videos. I've only been painting for about 7 months... (I gave a recreations of one of your sea shapes to my parents for Christmas). I have difficulty knowing how much water to use in my acrylics. I don't want to waste paint, but I also want those vibrant colors... is it all just a question of layering? How do I layer properly with watered down paint?
The best tip for me was an ugly stage. I had no idea other people hate their paintings most of the process too. :'D I'll definitely keep pushing more, thank you. :)
Hope you guys enjoy the video! What’s your biggest painting tip? 🎨✨
I'm with you on the reference photo tip! I can never imagine beautiful scenery in my mind because it's too hard for me to do. References are the best because they help you with colours and value
