I think you should do person swimming lure with arms that go round and round like a paddle wheel....if that is possible. But I'm sure you could do that...you make some amazing lures.

How’d it go?
The Jitterbug was my favorite top water lure for years. I never fished mine the way you did. Short retrieve and some sharp jerks, pause. Repeat is how I always fished them and more good days than bad that way.
Jitterbug is my 2nd favorite top water and a very productive bait in my experience. But, as you said, short retrieve and wait, then repeat was always the best action for me.
Should make a t-shirt with the quote... "Chip! Get out of the strawberries!". Cracks me up every time.

This Sunday I was pretending to rest until late, but I had a little flooding in the kitchen and laundry area. Now everything is fine. I've got a tackle box of my grandfathers with 15 old 50's era Hedon jitterbug lures, also a bunch of old jointed Muskie lures in there so cool.

Love my old Arbogast Jitterbugs. My first I found while fishing. Perch colored. Rocked that lure for many years and still have it. Caught a ton of bass, especially in the dusk/night times. Found waiting a few seconds after landing before starting the action was beneficial. Nice channel!
You did a gorgeous paint job on this "jitterbug" lure and it has pretty good action.
A real jitterbug has a more rounded body and and a more cupped blade.
They make more disturbance and more noise.
I've always had better luck with top water baits early morning or evening or on heavy overcast days.
Your strikes did come in the shade of that bridge.
That said, you made a really nice lure.

Have you ever thought about building a set of baits made with different woods. I would think that they will have slightly different actions. Good chance one of them are going to work better than the others.

Absolutely love this channel! Every lure is beyond perfection. Craftmenship is better then some name brand lures that are on the market..The amount of passion and heart that goes into these is amazing. Compared to some lures that are on the market that are just produced in mass quantity pumped to the masses and grabs the wallet and the money.

This is so awesome!!! We all have blanks sessions...At least you got a few bites... and know that the lure attracts fish...All in all, I would say this lure was a success even though you did not catch any fish...

Chip, always getting into those damn strawberries.
A little trick i use to getting my eyes on painlessly is a toothpick with a little blue tack on the end, then i stick it to the pupil and put the eye on.
Your jitter bug looks and works great....tip..use it after dark on calm water. Cast it out let it sit till the splash rings dissipate than slow retrieve....you will hammer anything from giant gills to bass....lots of fun to hear the water explode at strikes at your lure

In my experience fish response very well to scents. Sometime you should do a lure with a small scent pocket built in to accept garlic salmon eggs or something of that nature. Great work man!

jitterbugs are my go to bass lures, love it.
I always heard top water lures work best at day break and not much past that. Works with frogs, never tried a jitterbug. Very nice lure.

We got a lot of other people lures that way to, some a lot more expensive than ours
Great video and tough break, literally. Sorry to see that jitterbug go. The action was perfect. Next time, try a slower retrieve with some pauses throw in. That's how I've caught all my jitterbug fish. Looking forward to the next video! That tadpole sketch looked fire!!!

When you're casting a baitcast reel, rotate your wrist so the spool is always perpendicular to the ground. This will greatly reduce the amount of nests you get. My 12 year old hasn't nested one all year with this technique.
You should make a package that you can buy on Amazon with all the essentials for starting making lures

Just a suggestion but I know some lure builders who have a large flow tank that you put your lures in to test action and has different flow strengths for different lures. It can save a lot of time when you want to do a quick test but don’t want to drive down to a body of water.
