I'm surprised how much more the appraisal is than what the owner thought on the F100. Almost never happens, lol. It sure is a great execution. Well done, subtle and the colors work very well. As for the LM002: Wow. Probably the cleanest 1-owner example in existence. About 10 years ago, I saw one at a shop in California that the owner thought would be cool to do with Escalade headlights and some other tasteless mods. It was unsettling, to say the least. So good to see one as God, or at least Lamborghini, intended.
I have been anticipating this series and as I expected it did not disappoint. Colin and team congrats you have a winner series on your hands! Happy New Year, Dave Ochser
There was a black LM002 at a local import garage for quite a while, as well as a Laforza! My estimate of the LM002 was nearly spot-on, but my Ford pickup number was around $60K.
The well done resto mod/pro touring f100s and c10s are binging 150k+ at auctions now, it seems high because a rust free roller short bed is still only worth about 10k to get the project started, but none the less that's what they bring done. Think it's a combination of the popularity from the fast and loud show and now the covid supply chain issues/ inflation on top of that.
The triple-stack of the Mustang Cobra Rs was my absolute dream in the early 2000s. I may need to rewatch the show as I wasn't paying attention to the host, haha.
I loved Richard's love of Italian cars, here is a guy who rolls in a Lambroghini wearing a Ferrari Jacket and an Alfa Romeo hat. I giggled when thinking about Lambroghini's history with Ferrari.
Nice video. For a future video idea, it would be nice to do a walk-through of how to find and select an appraiser that is appropriate for your vehicle. For example, I imagine some appraisers are more familiar with certain genres over others. Also, what are some of the tips for having your car appraised.
Even in the bubble of everything we are in currently in and auction silliness i would doubt that truck would pull $150k ..Custom/modified normally never get what is invested in them ,they are not collectable. Appraiser should be more conservative . The lambo on the other hand is a true collectable .
That truck should be in the 20s it's just a crate engine and a few suspension add ons. It's like the internet is jacking the price up on everything now. A stock 1990 volvo wagon sold the other day for 36k dollars.
Agreed.. a crown vic front end is "doing it right"? Uuuh,, no. That's dong it cheap. And as mentioned, it's a 5.0 crate, tranny, and rear end. It's nice, but it's a 45k pickup.
@@slowrunner1660 that was my thought. I was thinking $40k, up to MAYBE $60k tops if he were to find the right buyer. I’ve worked at two high end shops, one primarily a hot rod shop, and the other a concourse restoration, on top of owning my own hot rod shop.
I knew I would find this post, and I totally agree that $150-170k for that truck is ridiculous. I was honestly thinking $40-60k. Its certainly a nice build but its just not special enough to command that kind of money.
That lambo is something else. Especially with the original owner.. but like he said, it's family.. although I'm worried bout the paint peeling off though. I feel like a strong gust of wind would tear it apart. I guess the garage it is for the rest of its days.
Hi, All! Thanks for watching the first episode of "The Appraiser" and for all of the great comments. To answer the most common one, the much debated value of the 1970 F100 on this episode, I agree it seems unlikely something like that could be worth so much money. But as I mentioned on the show the value of such a machine, for the person who wants to own one, is based on what it would cost to duplicate. In this case you'd be hard pressed to find a donor short bed, original paint very straight and rust-free F100 as nice as Jim did for less than $20k these days. Add to that just a Gen 3 Coyote crate engine from Ford, with the PCM and harness to run it, is $13k alone...plus the transmission...suspension..brakes...interior etc and you can see where the parts are easily over $40k. Now let's add in the labor at a pro shop such as the one that built Jim's truck. That's a minimum of 1,500 hours at a prevailing average shop rate today of $100/hour= $150k+ Therefore you can see the replacement cost would well exceed $200k, not to mention the time to manage such a build. Given that, the fact that I have seen a number of similar trucks sell for well over $100k at auction, and the fresh build and high quality of Jim's truck led me to my $125k appraised value. Far less than it cost to build and, hey, it is just a bad ass machine that has "the look" and was a hoot to drive. In fact, the day before this episode aired, a 1968 F100 that was an older build in a similar style to Jim's truck (but an automatic...and I don't know how to drive those) sold on Bring a Trailer for $127,777 all-in with the $5k buyer's premium. So if Jim decides to sell in this market I maintain my number will be pretty damn close! Now, as for the LM002....holy crap do I want that truck! I owned one in 1997 and have regretted not keeping it since I sold it. Of course, as one of you so accurately pointed out, they aren't $50k anymore either. Sigh. Maybe I'll just go buy a Ferrari jacket and an Alfa hat instead. Or not. Thanks again for watching and keep the comments coming! Remember, too, a new episode hits the Hagerty channel every Friday at 10am CST! -Colin
I suggest people take the time and look up the 68 F100 like I did. It's a fully completed truck that only sold for 127g. But yet this guy claims at auction this 70's truck could bring in 150-175g!!!! Makes perfectly good sense to me. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Awesome show. Would love to take my wee time capsule FD RX7 on some time! Going to be west coast bound to film a top speed run attempt later this year. Hope I can keep watching these until then. 🤟
For a moment I thought the owner of the F100 truck was none other than Walter White. I also think that even he had trouble believing the valuation based on his body language! I think the owners estimate of 80k is much, much closer to the mark. The Rambo Lambo on the other hand if off the charts cool, and I think a 300k+ estimate is quite realistic given the market for old V12 Lambo's at the moment, not to mention its coolness and rarity.
I first saw that Lambo on Motor Week, way back when, and used on a short-lived series called "Nasty Boys." Wish I could afford it--and a '65 Jag XKE as well. One lousy winning lottery ticket would solve the problem.
If that Lamborghini is family, it's got a face only only a mother could love! It's a $350,000 dune buggy that you can only take to buy groceries or to church. The Ford f-100 resto mod is nice and all, but I'm not a fan of the original paint color nor the garish color combination of that interior with the bronze trim and wheels. Wheels. Maybe somebody likes it but good luck getting $125,000 for it. He says he's not in it to sell it, and that's a good thing. Be fortunate to get what he put into it back out of it when he sells it. If he sells it. All that negativity expressed, I do like the show. Hopefully they'll be something come along that floats my boat aesthetically. These two vehicles are beside the point for me. I'm glad they've got owners and fans. To each his own.
For a complete resto-mod car the builder must've known how much they valued best and I agree $80k is realistic but we all know there's always someone who'd pay around $150k for that F100 and won't regret it
The LM001 was designed to be sold to the Italian Army. They balked at the price tag so Lamborghini offered it up to other countries (including the USA) with no bites.

Regarding the 1970 F-100, when the Bed Floor was "modified" to accept the Mustang Fuel Cap, the Bed is not as "Utilitarian" as an actual Truck that someone may Haul Groceries, Lumber, or possibly Gravel/Soil. And, can the "Upgraded" suspension keep up with it's "Roots" for Payload and Towing?
No, it's a truck in name only. Sure you could haul normal things like the groceries (and watch them fly out as you drive), and some camping gear and luggage, etc.
The owner was close on what that truck would go for at an auction. My guess would be more like $65-70K. No way in hell it would sell for $175K. This show reminds me of Antique Roadshow where the appraisers quote unrealistic re-sell values to try and make the show more interesting.

@Lassi Kinnunen 81 idk..i mean i have to insure my car for what i think im comfortable receiving back in value..i can also take the cheap way out and insure it based on its "value" where i live..he knows what he has into it so..plus i luv that power in the f100 with that rear end..thats probably a great truck to have fun with.I luv just not 100k luv..80k id be down for that..i live in NH so that would be a 7-9 month truck for me
$80,000 for the truck, the owner knew.
