  • This video shows how to simulate the motion of an helical savonius wind turbine using the dynamic mesh tool in Ansys to rotate and inner domain containing the turbine walls.
The mesh should have more elements for a better simulation, but I think this is enough for demonstration purposes.

In 18:25, when the time step size is defined, you have to change it to 0.01[s]. I forgot to show that in the video.

for design can we just design in ansys? or first we must design at solidworks?

At 16:18 when defining dynamic mesh zones, how do we know which ones have to be what? I understand that if we select the whole domain then we dont need to add the interior faces but we do need to add the exterior. Also the stationary is for the interface exterior interior, which we didnt create as named selections. So what is that zone?

Have you got clarification about this?

How can I get power of turbine?

Why do you checked and then unchecked the option of "coupled wall" from 14:35?

I'll admit I'm not quite sure why that is important to do, but I've checked that if you skip that step the fluid on the interior zone won't move.

Hi, can I know how do you determine the turbine rpm from here?

Define maximum veleocity im turbine walls, then delete the maximum velocity to turbine radius. Then multiply this to 60 then you will get rpm.

how did you import from cad software to ansys? i tried but it wont work

th-cam.com/video/t7EP56BvrJM/w-d-xo.html . That's a video from CFD Ninja explaining how, it shows how to import the file from inventor, but it should be basically the same for any other cad software.

save your cad file by clicking save as STEP214 format. open design modeller in ansys and find the STEP214 file and click generate

have you figured it out sir?

    • @herkdaniel807

It is simple math. Basically the function works the following way:
You wan´t the velocity of the wind to be 8 m/s, but to have a smooth ramping, you can just use tis function. The velocity starts at 0 and with increasing time, the velocity reaches the desired 8 m/s. You can write that on paper and place random values for the time variable. You can see, that at 0 seconds the velocity is 0 and at some high value, like 30 seconds, the value is 8 m/s.
