They chose a very difficult concept to express in a logo, but whoever designed it is a creative genius. The result of a survey during the Stanley Cup Final was that 75-80% of Pittsburgh was rooting for VGK to take the Cup, only partly due to Pens being trounced by Caps in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

All of the logos mentioned such as the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers are associated with winning. They aren't viewed as great logos for what they are, they are great logos because those teams have many titles with those.

Some years ago I was visiting a friend in Florida and on the flight back, as we got closer, people would say "Man this is my first time in Vegas," and even the annoying as he'll "YEAH!!!!! VEGAS BABY!!" So yeah, it is called that by many.
