    Great stuff guys. Finally a simple set up without needing to spend 100k for a caravan or 100k 79 series ute !

      Getting excessive and the ones that blow a tonne of cash, and then have to pump out sponsor reviews that are dishonest to keep their lifestyle going. Keen for real life, budget travellers without all the extra BS.

    Hi Adam, from my understanding all solar panels have reduced output when they get hot, and I understand that when they are direct fixed, they get very hot. From what I am told it is best to have a raised panel with airflow underneath the panel. But like yourself, I am always happy to learn. Thanks for the video

      Thanks for the tip, I looked everywhere for any mounting instructions from kings, and couldn't find anything. I'll know for next time

      @@GoingOverland Grab some corflute from Bunnings and put it under the flexible panel this will help to cool/insulate it from the heat of the roof. I also think that panel is stuffed have you measured the output?

    Great to watch this! We've just bought our first caravan & looking at setting up a 12v system. We don't need all the frills, just lights & creature comforts. This really helped us settle our stress for off grid camping

      Glad we could help. And after spending 6 months travelling our setup was working great. We only plugged the trailer into 240V once and it didn't even need it!

    Liking your content. My Kings panel the same lasted 13 months (denied warranty) it just stopped working and now it is pealing badly as well. I Sikaflex it on in spots to try and let some air underneath. Worked a treat when it did work. Cheers Paul

      @GoingOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Paul for the support, I think Kings gear is OK to get started but soon enough it needs replacing for the people who use it more. So far the new panels and install are working great and no signs of any problems

    Great little video.. just curious.. what gauge or cable type are you using for the wiring of the Anderson plugs and from the front of the vehicle to the back and the patch cables, etc..

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      From memory it's pretty thick, maybe 8mm wire. But we have only 1 had to plug into the car to charge the lithium in the trailer, that 1 solar panel at the back is all we need for 6 months off grid!

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it seems like everyone wants to take every creature comfort there is. We would rather rough it a little to be able to get to a remote, isolated spot where heavier setups can't get

    The amount of overkill 12v systems people think they need is really interesting. Spending $10,000 so you can make a coffee or dry your hair is nothing more than good marketing.

    I've watched 5 of your videos today, I have liked and subbed.
    My 12 volt is budget as well. I have minimal needs, Engel 40lt fridge, charge phone, tablet, Bluetooth speaker, and camp lights.
    I have a fixed 200w, and a 120w folding blanket, and dcdc charger, if I camp for a couple of days, I need to turn my fridge off at night.
    My battery is 140Ah agm, I suspect that is my issue.
    Any ideas?

  • @Al1978Newman

    Hey Crew - how come you're not charging the lithium battery from the alternator??

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well for one thing I have always been a bit sceptical if the alternator can correctly charge all 3 batteries and run all the electrical gear even with the bigger alternator.
      As it turns out after doing 6 months of travelling the solar charge was all the trailer needed! Only plugged it into 240v once for a test and it only needed 10amps! And towards the end of the trip we ran the fridge every night off the lithium in the camper because the other battery just couldn't last 12hrs without the fridge turning off.
      So after 2 years we still run the same setup and battery has never been below 45%. Really happy with that lithium battery and highly recommend it 👍

    Great video. Do you rate the itech world lithium? Also does the Victron 240 charger charge the lithium as well?

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah itech lithium battery is fantastic. We would struggle to do such a big trip with a AGM. We would need a dcbc charger and probably another even bigger alternator and more stops at powered caravan sites. Yes we specifically got the victron charger for the lithium battery, it stops putting an amps into the battery when full. Main thing about lithium is to not over charge

  • @Mixos_place
    @Mixos_place 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would not call lithium battery budget..I think you have a realistic setup for camping...

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your right it wasn't cheap, but cheaper than a good AGM, dcbc charger and a good solar regulator and having to stay at a lot more expensive powered sites on the trip. Thanks for the support Michael

    • @shanenorwell8580
      @shanenorwell8580 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Considering you only need half as much and it lasts 4 times as long it’s cheaper than agm if you do the sums.

    What air compressor/ inflator do you use to inflate the kayaks.
    Cheers Andy

    • @GoingOverland

      We use the ryobi inflator. It's really fast, cost about $60 from memory and we already have the batteries

    Was interested in watching your series until I heard the judgement from you about people wanting to travel with coffee machines etc and that they should stay in motels. Why couldn’t you have just gone with the “to each their own” way of thinking and not judged. You can absolutely appreciate our beautiful country, in the bush, off grid..,with a decent cup of coffee. Just seems like you are judging others who want to do it differently to you..,which is a disappointing start to your series

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey if a coffee machine is your thing go for it. We just can't afford the weight on things like coffee machines, 12v ovens, microwaves. We are campers, we just go without, but the lighter, smaller setup gets us into spots bigger setups can't. I'm not stopping you
