Thank you for letting us in on your family trip around Australia. It’s refreshing to watch a family having the time of their lives with just a modest but efficient piece of kit. Well done mate. I was watching another couple and recent post showing off their $400k setup. I mean how realistic is this for the average Australian? I mean “oh please!” Great tips. Hey mate, Tass Wylie here, ive commented on a few of your videos now. Im actually watching them backwards. Most recent to oldest. And im loving every minute of it.. Do you have a way of contacting you guys directly? Ive got a few questions about travelling with kids. In one of my last comments i spoke about my plans to travel aus full time starting September this year. And id love to touch base with you to share ideas and get advice. Ive personally travelled AUS more than most. But just as a single bloke working my way around in my trusty old cruiser, swag and dog riding shot gun. Now doing it with a family the whole ball game has changed. I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers
Great to hear you're going to be doing similar travel, it's definitely more challenging with kids, but such a great experience to share. Easiest way to connect with us is via instagram, just search goingoverland
Very informative. 🙂 Thanks for this video and thanks again for letting us join you on your adventures. I have added so many locations to my must visit list after seeing you guys visiting them and your information and experiences has helped me as I build my own travel set up. Looking forward to watching more of your excellent videos in 2022. 😎
Hey guys, just found your Chanel and love your work. My wife and I have a similar size trailer and it is encouraging that you are doing it without a big van like every other TH-camr. Just a bit of advice with your power steering, when you turn your wheel to full lock, the power steering system will over pressurize and cause broken lines and pumps. So when you hit the stop (full lock) back the wheel off a bit and the pump and lines will last forever. Great work
Thanks Clayton for your support, it's been a amazing adventure and having a smaller trailer has been a advantage, being able to take it everywhere, beaches, Mitchell Falls, Bungle Bungles, places a full size caravan simple can't go. And I know exactly what you mean about the power steering, unfortunately in this case we got supplied with 2 dodgy new pumps that had a problem with the tank mount to the actual pump and 2 dodgy pressure hoses that was just poorly made. That company has since changed the design and refunded us for the parts. Check out our Plenty hwy video, part 3 of our trip and than the Elquestro video. Such a stress we were trying to avoid when we changed the perfectly fine orginal pump!
We enjoy your videos great job , even though you have faced a few challenges with breakdowns , you have shown us what it's really like to travel the outback warts and all and you all seem to have had a great time good on you
Thanks Mark, I think it's really important to show people that you don't need everything, but you do need the right gear. And Larissa doesn't mind showing the warts off🤣
Hey Mike thanks for the support, we will have a full budget video shortly. We also did a couple of prep videos before we left home and a car and camper run down. Just have to go into our channel and our big lap prep play list.
Thanks Ian, just wanted to show people you don't need everything but the right gear, and I'm so impressed with all the gear that is holding up to some of the roughest roads, heat waves, dust and at times constant rain.
I remember watching the Leyland brothers tour Australia with hemp rope, a billy, some bale wire and a positive attitude. Well done mate. I'd rather watch you than some sponsored wanker with a 14 m caravan with aircon and induction cooking and satellite TV.
😅 I know what you mean. I loved watching them go up Cape York for the first time, modified aircraft winch, custom fat tyres, home made buggie. It's what inspired us to adventure, not caravan around Australia.
Thank you for these practical tips and advice from your experiences mate. 2nd time I've watched this information packed video and this time I've jotted down invaluable notes for preparation to do, for when my wife, 2 maltese x poms and myself finally this year, get to give it a crack of what you're family have been doing . Best video out there guys! All the very best to you guys. Thanks again!!!

Happy new year guys. Have really appreciated all the effort you've put into making these videos. It's given us lots of ideas for our big lap. And prep-wise, it's great to know what works and what doesn't as opposed to what's sponsored and what's not.

Thanks Steve for the support. Like must people we have a budget and time frame and we just wanted to show people you can do it too. Bit of hard work, the right gear and a sense of adventure and we are having the trip of a lifetime.
Thank you for this episode was very informative. We've just come back from our Christmas camping trip overpacked clothes and just about everything else. How many chairs do 2 people need (apparently 6) :):):):) its ridiculous.
Great video and info. Re the Joolca flame out. If it’s a common issue then have a chat to Joolca. They showed me how to ‘adjust’ the position flame sensor so it’s not too sensitive (closer into the flame) . Mine used to blow out heaps and now it’s rock solid. Easy to do.
Just found your channel. Great stuff guys. I love your style of travel. The way a lap around Aus should be done. Real authentic travel. I’ll get busy watching all you other vids now. 👏

Very informative Adam. We are minimal travellers these days. On the two of us now so it’s easier for us and we have 2 drawers each and bunks are purely storage now. Fully self sufficient with 2 x 120AH iTechWorld lithium batteries. Safe travels guys.
Thanks Kevin, it's definitely a tight fit with the 4 of us, but it's amazing how much you don't need. Larissa wants to sell most of our stuff at home now😅
Thanks David, exactly right. Just need the right gear, sometimes having everything doesn't make your life easier. Especially if you have to tow it all up a sandy hill😅. Thanks for the support and have a happy new year 🎉
Great advice on using the Supapeg pegs. We carry the long and short versions for different ground conditions. See our video. We buy them cheap from snowys
Thanks for the vid mate! Interesting re the anderson plugs (noticed even the Narva you picked up had cracked?), maybe they just have a bit of a shelf life when in the tough stuff?
That narva plug was on the trailer hitch when we bought it, so probably over 3 years old, and yes it did have a small crack but it's one of the most abused plugs and I just replaced it with our last narva plug. The cheap ones are constantly falling apart, but we have struggled to find narva ones in the top of NT. Thanks for watching and the support 👍
I did in a early video and was threatened with a law suit. So unfortunately I can't risk it. But it was a company that is specialising in 2 particularly vehicles.
Thanks for a great end to an eventful year Adam..Hats off to you guys for your determination and tenacity the past year, its definately been inspirational. Happy New year to you guys from us oldies.take care, stay safe.
Thanks Wayne for your support this year and positive feedback, it's been fantastic mate, really appreciate your backing. Hopefully this year will be a lot better than last, but it will have its own challenges no doubt. Cheers cobber
Happy New Year Adam, Larissa, Hayley and Joe. All the best for the new year guys. Enjoyed the video. I related to most of what you said. Having spent,5 months on the road, it's amazing what you don't really need!. Knowing that now.. I'm re-hashing a lot of things and getting rid of the surplus. The roof bag is a great idea. I put mine on, at the last minute, prior to travelling. Like you mentioned, it's that extra storage space, and came in handy for me. I put, pretty much anything into it, that wasn't being used.
Thanks mate, and a happy new year to you too! What a year it's been. I hope this year coming isn't as testing as the last and your plans come together. Stay safe and see you on the roads
Thanks Graig for the support. Just wanted to show people you don't need a mega expensive set-up, just some good gear, a set-up that suits you and a sense of adventure. Have a great new years
@@GoingOverland Yes so true our old 1990--80 owes us 10g and our 1983 Jayco wind van owes us 5,5g and we go everywhere free camping in most states, , hopefully we get to do WA and SA soon, Loved your show and content,
Hi Adam and family Very informative and most importantly ‘ REAL’ for those of us that have a trip like this on the bucket list. Your recommendation on the amount of solar an eye-opener. You mentioned your switch to a Hybrid over the camper for ease of setup - was your camper a soft or hard floor ? Agree with your current tyre choice - I’m on my 2nd set. You might pay in terms of the kms you get out of them (They get a bit skaty as they near the end of their life) but that’s the trade-off for reliability. Look forward to more uploads. Happy new year Cheers 👍
Thanks for the heads up on the tyres, I'll keep a eye out on that. We had a 12 foot soft floor camper, great for long weekends but if the wind picked up, it was like a kite! We were going to remove the tent off trailer and put a Ute canopy on top, plus roof top tent and 270 awning, but then would have to upgrade Axel, brakes, upgrade gvm etc.
The main shirt I wear is from mangrove outdoors(on line shop), and it's the best one, vented, spf50 plus, quick dry. The others are from Anaconda. We then got a local company to put our logo on them.
Thanks Raza for your support this past year. Really appreciate your feedback and positive comments. Have a great new year and hopefully we have a more tips to help other travellers
Thanks Andrew for the positive support. I have a dji mavic air. Small enough to take hiking in a backpack yet big enough for windy conditions. Got the kit with 3 batteries and you definitely need them at times.
Stumbled across this video today, great content! Question for you about the portable shower. Have you had any issues where the camping location requires you to be "self contained" and you have had issues because you can't contain the grey water from the shower? I've been wondering if this is much of an issue or not.
Nope, no issues with where we have been camping. We had a plan that if we had to we could shower before arriving at camp if we had to, but have had no problems. We brought a collapsible 10L water container if we had to collect water from the sink, but haven't used it one. We collect in a bucket and spread water around way from camp
Happy new year, Very helpful information, we are taking a camprite camper on our trip so not as much space as your camper. Is there anything you think you could have left at home? Or wish you brought with you? Cheers Des
Thanks Des and have a happy new year too 🥳. Those Camprites where the pinnacle of camper trailers, so well built and designed for off-roading. We are pretty much spot on for our gear and setup. We haven't sent anything home or had to buy much. I pretty much thought about our day to day life and what needs the family have from sun up to sun down and started a list of gear we needed. Eg, going hiking needs a back pack, small first aid kit hats, boots, water bottles etc. Fishing needs a kit, rods, bucket etc. Kids needs paper for homework, pens, colouring in, toys, games etc. And so on and so on. Than when packing make sure no double ups and anything that isn't needed or could be used for another purpose.
I think in an earlier video you mentioned you had a satellite phone. Which brand/Sat did you go and did you just go prepaid time or something? Just starting to look at options now for a future trip and wondering your choices and experience.
Yes we have a optus sate sleeve. It's been good to have on our remote travels. It's on a $15 a month plan plus calls. Plan can be paused at any time. Calls from sate are $1 minute, and we can access data to, so we can check emails and weather. Now here's the best part, calls to sate sleeve from another optus phone (and maybe other providers ) are at standard call costs, so if a family member has $0 calls in Australia, they can call you for free!
Yeah we would only travel in a 4x4. Lots of reasons, but we love the ability to go remote and get away from the masses. There has been so many amazing places on this trip that haven't been a serious 4x4 track, but long distance from supplies, fuel, water and klms of corrugations and a 4x4 can carry big weight on rough roads with big strong tyres fitted.
Happy new year and thanks for sharing and taking the effort to share. What are your early thoughts for your next adventure? Yes early I know but curious stay safe cheers Mark (Bob the Colorado)
Thanks Bob and a happy new year to you too. After we get everything back to 100%, have a little rest, and put some money in the bank, I want to go south into Victoria and the high country. Also have something bigger kicking around in my head, a long term goal for motivation. Thanks for your support this year, really appreciate it
Thanks Allan for joining us and the positive feedback, great to hear. The patrol did a amazing job despite being nearly 30 years old and fired up every day with no problems. We did have a couple of things break which I've repaired and I would do it again if we didn't have to work and have the kids in school. Full video of all the breakages below th-cam.com/video/_e3g8Nul5cc/w-d-xo.html
Is this a crystal lead battery by beta batteries ? I’ve got mine in the cargo area because I was told it couldn’t go under bonnet, have you experienced otherwise ? Cheers
No in the car it's a lead acid deep cycle battery under the bonnet. 100amp hr. I should change it but like having it out of the way and the weight forward. In the camper is a 100amp lithium battery and it's amazing. It only charges off 1 solar panel. Nothing from alternator and hasn't needed 240V charging.
Thanks Rob, just tell your friend to search going Overland if you can't send them the link, I think if you click the button on top right it brings up the share options if on a phone. And yeah I wouldn't be following 24/7 down a track 🤣 I don't have the sponsorship to buy new alternators every week and clean out brakes and radiators isn't fun. We used to do stuff like that but sitting radio deep in the patrol twice in 1 month wasn't fun after. Ended up costing $2000 in damage to electrical equipment and bearings.

Each to there own, there's no wrong way, but match your trip, gear and places to your own style. Happy to answer any questions, and we have some more tips and budget video coming soon.
Thanks Paul, got some great spots coming up to. Wait until you see Bitter Sping, the water is amazing 😍
@@GoingOverland Stop teasing. LOL 😊
Great Vid Mate, nice to see a channel not being over the top!
Thanks TwoCrabs we just wanted to show people a realistic lap of Australia
We enjoy your videos great job , even though you have faced a few challenges with breakdowns , you have shown us what it's really like to travel the outback warts and all and you all seem to have had a great time good on you
Thanks Mark, I think it's really important to show people that you don't need everything, but you do need the right gear. And Larissa doesn't mind showing the warts off🤣
Legends - great video!
Thanks for the support Gregg 👍
fantastic episode!! very interesting some good points there . shame about the mechanical issues with the Patrol ! well done !
Thanks Brent, hopefully we can shed some light on what's important to bring on a big trip.
Good list! Where did you get the stainless little tables?
if you have wires properly crimped they wont heat up and break
Google recommendation, So refreshing to see a normal build lap, would be good to see the costing of the trip plus build. Well done!
Hey Mike thanks for the support, we will have a full budget video shortly. We also did a couple of prep videos before we left home and a car and camper run down. Just have to go into our channel and our big lap prep play list.
HNY to you guys! Tx for the run down and helpful advice and suggestions.
Thanks Ian, just wanted to show people you don't need everything but the right gear, and I'm so impressed with all the gear that is holding up to some of the roughest roads, heat waves, dust and at times constant rain.
Very refreshing - straight, sensible and practical - thank you.
Thanks Benny for the support. Great to hear people getting something out of our videos. Just wanted to show people a realistic lap of Australia
Thanks Shaun, happy to help and answer any questions. The gear we are sharing is the gear I paid for and I trust, not just free gear to promote. We also have some great tip videos coming which should really help you out
Only recently discovered your channel and really enjoy your videos, very informative. Good work guys!
Thanks Allan for joining us. We just wanted to show people a realistic set-up on a realistic budget. No sponsorship or promotion, just gear that I actually like
Amazing! Some great tips there. Your kids will have some great stories to tell their mates when you get home, well done.
Thanks Colin, they are little troopers, they have been through the ringer and still have a laugh at the end of each day
Happy new year guys.
Have really appreciated all the effort you've put into making these videos.
It's given us lots of ideas for our big lap.
And prep-wise, it's great to know what works and what doesn't as opposed to what's sponsored and what's not.
Thanks Gary, that was one of the reasons why I wanted to film our lap, and happy new year too!
Just remember everyone's lap is different and you'll do your lap in your style of travel. Happy to answer any questions you have, and we'll have a couple more tip and budget videos soon.
Great video good to see someone doing their trips without heaps of sponsors. Keep the vids coming
Thanks Steve for the support. Like must people we have a budget and time frame and we just wanted to show people you can do it too. Bit of hard work, the right gear and a sense of adventure and we are having the trip of a lifetime.
Good video and tips. Thanks mate. I went to tunnel creek as a kid and now wants to take my kids back there.
Thanks Ian it was a amazing experience. Just check before you go because not long after we were there it closed due to a rock slide.
Easy to do.
Great advice, it's been working pretty good, but occasionally it's just not happy. I might shoot them a email. Thanks for watching
Your trip has been unreal to watch very impressed
Thanks John for your support and positive feedback. Have a great new years too🥳
Just found your channel. Great stuff guys. I love your style of travel. The way a lap around Aus should be done. Real authentic travel. I’ll get busy watching all you other vids now. 👏
Thanks Dirrection overland, for the support, it's been a amazing adventure and so much learnt that I really want to help others see that you don't need a massive budget. Happy to answer any questions.
@@GoingOverland cheers 🍻. You have some great tips and info. Just like Aus travel used to be before the industry made it too complicated and pretentious.
Hi Team
Thanks for being Honest and forcing.
Great videos thanks again stay safe
Thanks Barry for the support 👍
Hey Guys, great show and thanks, happy new year and all the best👌👍.
Cheers Scoot
Thanks Scoot for all your support and positive feedback this year, Really appreciate it, means alot. Have a great new years too 😀
Hey guy's thanks for vids, wemcertainly live in a magic country. Some very wise words for those about to travel.Thanks....
Cheers Doug, just wanted to show people you don't need everything, but the right gear and a set-up to suits your needs is everything. Have a great new years
Great stuff guys best wishes for future.
Thanks Gary for your support. Hopefully this year will be less challenging than the last, but it's going to be different that's for sure. Have a great new year
Thanks for your tips on budget traveling and advice
Thanks Rae for the support, we will have some more tips and budget videos soon, just wanted to show people a realistic lap and realistic gear.
Thanks very informative. Enjoying your videos.
Thanks Steve for the support 👍
Only just came across your channel today 4/1/22. Really good video. Guess I have a lot of catching up to do. Well done.
Thanks for joining us John, we really appreciate it. We are not professionals, but just wanted to show people a realistic lap of Australia, and it's been a amazing adventure. Plenty of highs and lows. Happy to answer any questions
Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2022! So enjoyed All your info! Thanks for sharing your fantastic travels! Cheers Wonderful family ✨💕✨
Thanks Jen for all your positive feedback and support this year. It really helps us and keeps us motivated. Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and have a great new years too.
Hopefully this video shows you doing need everything, but the right gear, and a set-up that suits your individual requirements.
Good stuff. Only just found your channel so I have some catching up to do.
Thanks Western Aus. We just wanted to show people a realistic lap of Australia. The good and the bad.
Great video & insight to life on the road. Well done guys
Thanks Andy for the support. It's been a amazing adventure.
Very informative, thank you!
Cheers Mark for the support.
Nice! Adventure without first robbing two banks!
That's the plan. We still have a mortgage and bills to pay. And we don't feel like we've gone without anything, but the places we've seen, priceless 😍
Larissa wants to sell most of our stuff at home now😅
@@GoingOverland I know my wife would quite happily sell all my stuff in the garage ☹️
Thanks for the Vid. Yes shows its within reach for alot of people. Dont need to sell the family home to do it.
Thanks David, exactly right. Just need the right gear, sometimes having everything doesn't make your life easier. Especially if you have to tow it all up a sandy hill😅. Thanks for the support and have a happy new year 🎉
great video excellent advise
Thanks for the support Jimmy
Great advice on using the Supapeg pegs. We carry the long and short versions for different ground conditions. See our video. We buy them cheap from snowys
Thanks Places to sea. It's amazing how the little things make a big difference to life on the road.
Laughing, had a friend with a normal car, old, but they doing a break job, I so trying to forward them your vid , on stuck drum.
@@GoingOverland Ah interesting! Thanks for the reply, always good to see how stuff goes in the real world 👍
You should mention where you got the power steering pump, it might help save someone else some drama.
I did in a early video and was threatened with a law suit. So unfortunately I can't risk it. But it was a company that is specialising in 2 particularly vehicles.
@@GoingOverland lol, I would have called their bluff! If their product failed and you warned people, that’s hardly your fault!
Thanks for sharing guys will you be showing us you arriving back home would love to see
Yep, we have shown most of our prep work before leaving and the idea is to show us getting home and what's broken and needs fixing
@@GoingOverland thanks love watching great to see normal everyday people inspiring us to do same cheers
Thank you so much.
Thanks Geoffrey for your support, hopefully we can help other travellers and happy to answer any questions
Great Ep. thanks for sharing
Thanks Graig for the support. Just wanted to show people you don't need a mega expensive set-up, just some good gear, a set-up that suits you and a sense of adventure. Have a great new years
@@GoingOverland Yes so true our old 1990--80 owes us 10g and our 1983 Jayco wind van owes us 5,5g and we go everywhere free camping in most states, , hopefully we get to do WA and SA soon, Loved your show and content,
Quality, thankyou
Thanks Jon for the support 👍
Hi Adam and family
Very informative and most importantly ‘ REAL’ for those of us that have a trip like this on the bucket list.
Happy new year
Cheers 👍
Thanks for the heads up on the tyres, I'll keep a eye out on that.
We had a 12 foot soft floor camper, great for long weekends but if the wind picked up, it was like a kite! We were going to remove the tent off trailer and put a Ute canopy on top, plus roof top tent and 270 awning, but then would have to upgrade Axel, brakes, upgrade gvm etc.
Inspiration thank you
Thanks Macca for the support 👍
Happy New year guys like your you tube videos. Just a quick question, what brand are your shirts and where do you get them from.
The main shirt I wear is from mangrove outdoors(on line shop), and it's the best one, vented, spf50 plus, quick dry. The others are from Anaconda. We then got a local company to put our logo on them.
Good job 👍
Thanks Jame for your support. Happy to answer any questions you have
Noice - got some good tips . cheers
Thanks Mark, we'll have a honest budget video soon and a couple more tips video too
bloody good info cobber
Thanks Raza for your support this past year. Really appreciate your feedback and positive comments. Have a great new year and hopefully we have a more tips to help other travellers
great watch as normal,
Thanks Peter for your support this year and the positive feedback, really appreciated it. Have a great new years
Thanks for letting us follow your adventure. Some great destinations and the drone footage is amazing. What drone do you use?
Thanks Andrew for the positive support. I have a dji mavic air. Small enough to take hiking in a backpack yet big enough for windy conditions. Got the kit with 3 batteries and you definitely need them at times.
@@GoingOverland thank you. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Great advice.
Thanks Korker for the support. Fellow travellers will know what I'm saying, and the reality of life on the road. Have a great new years
Happy new year,
Very helpful information, we are taking a camprite camper on our trip so not as much space as your camper.
Thanks Adam for replying.👍
Can you please tell me how the rooftop bag mounts to the rack or does it strap down ?
It has 4 built in straps that go through the bag and around the roof rack. It does recommend that you use a rachet strap over the top too
I think in an earlier video you mentioned you had a satellite phone.
Would you ever consider a van or seriously keep to 4wd … convenience says van/rough tracks 4wd?
Thanks for your support this year, really appreciate it
@@GoingOverland sounds good you will love the VIC high country, the NSW side of the high country is also special. Stay safe cheers
How did the GQ handle the lap trip. Any major mechanical issues?
Thanks Allan for joining us and the positive feedback, great to hear. The patrol did a amazing job despite being nearly 30 years old and fired up every day with no problems. We did have a couple of things break which I've repaired and I would do it again if we didn't have to work and have the kids in school. Full video of all the breakages below
th-cam.com/video/_e3g8Nul5cc/w-d-xo.html
Is this a crystal lead battery by beta batteries ? I’ve got mine in the cargo area because I was told it couldn’t go under bonnet, have you experienced otherwise ?
Cheers
No in the car it's a lead acid deep cycle battery under the bonnet. 100amp hr. I should change it but like having it out of the way and the weight forward.
In the camper is a 100amp lithium battery and it's amazing. It only charges off 1 solar panel. Nothing from alternator and hasn't needed 240V charging.
@@GoingOverland oh I must of mis heard, thanks!
Ps, if you bump in to Shawn, or Graham, 24/7 Do not follow them.
In middle off ,
And don't take a fucking dog with you!
Sorry I'm not a guy so will move on!
