I was (and still is) in love with Martha Quinn. She was so fine. I always looked forward to watching her on MTV. Years later MTV completely changed into crap. Those were the days we loved watching our televisions instead of our cellphones.
I know this comment is 2 years old but I wanted to let you know martha is a DJ on FM95.7 the jet now. I listen to her show every day in seattle washington
I so miss those days - graduated college '82. carefree, broke, lovin' life and knowing that I had my whole life ahead of me. We lived real life then, not the digital electronic life kids have today. I'm ready for a rewind.
Thank you very much for this videos. One of the things I like so much about TH-cam is that younger generations are now able to see why we mean when we say that the older music was better and why MTV was a real game changer back in those days. The MTV they get right now is crap campared with what we had those days.
It's a very different time. Hard to say how it'll be fifty years from now, but my gut says the 1980's will be called a Golden Age of Pop Music. Maybe similar to what Frank Rich said about the early sixties as the end of the Great Broadway. I can truly say "I want my MTV." 😇
The days when I was only a Lad n MTV blew me away. I get home from school, run down stairs and watch it for hours. Last night I accidently came across VMA music awards so I stopped for a few minutes to check it out. I'm watching a couple of "musicians" lip singing to a bad song and running around in underwear with gay guys parading around in style. I thought back to the earliest days of MTV and thought wow what a decline. Like they said in the old days. "I want my MTV" back please.
Looking through the comments, I'm amused to see that I'm not the only one who fell head over heels for Martha Quinn. I feel so lucky to have been a teenager in the '80s. Music was fun. It didn't try to be anything else. Just fun. While the other VJs were great, Martha was my favorite. She was genuine and relatable. And she had fun with her job.
One Christmas eve, in the mid 90's, a friend of mine asked if I wanted to join him going over to Martha's place for the evening. I asked, "Who's Martha?" and he was vague when he answered. Yes, it turned out to be Martha Quinn's house. There were no more than five or six of us there and I have to say, I totally fell for her. She was married to the guy from The Fuzztones, though. He wasn't there, so we got into a long conversation. Martha was incredibly down to earth, hospitable, charming, sweet, smart, and she liked cats. I really felt like we were hitting it off, but I think really, she's the kind of person who could hit it off with anyone. Such a great energy.
Music videos just ain't what they used to be! Of course, you can listen to Martha and all the other surviving original MTV deejays on Sirius XM, 80s on 8!
Martha, you're 4 years younger than me and still lookin hot. Too bad I can't say the same for MTV. It's good to see these old reels of what MTV used to be in the beginning when it was My MTV!!!👍✌
When I was 21, my Martha crush was well documented. I would go on and on about her to my friends until one of them would tell me to shut up, and then we could go one with our evening.
Martha has such class, and amazing poise for someone so young (I think she was 22 years old in this clip). It's wonderful to see people with such heart and passion for what they were doing back then, today's MTV a mere ghost of what it was when it started. As far as VJ's go from MTV's heyday, Martha Quinn will never be equalled.
Met Martha in 1980 when she was signing autographs on flyers for everyone, at a local record store. I asked her to sign my arm so I could show it to all my friends at the bar later on that night, and she got real indignant, like she was insulted. She finally gave in and signed, but after that, I was not very impressed with her. She seemed real snobby. So as far as I am concerned, THAT is the REAL Martha Quinn.
Totally agree! Music today is just disposable. Who is going to remember today's "hits" even 3 years from now? Rap and hip hop did kill music. That's when things really started to go downhill. What a pity. I watched MTV religiously from its first broadcast but then when it started with the rap BS that was the end for me. RIP MTV.
Robert, I never knew Martha was a Taurus. Her birthday and mine are separated by 4 years and 6 days. Whenever, I think of MTV in the beginning; I can't help but think of Martha. She's still good lookin to this day.👍✌
Martha Quinn was always my favorite...actually, I remember her being the favorite vj among other jr.high-type age girls, too. I think it's because she's like an-every girl/girl next door plus she knew a lot about music which made her even cooler. Wonder what's up with her now??
0:19 "Dirty Creature" by Split Enz. One if the singers of the group was Neil Finn who after Split Enz broke up, he formed Crowded House with Paul Hester. Crowded House is best known for "Don't Dream It's Over". Crowded House is still making music today.
Amazing to think that when they were talking about the Doors, they were talking about an era from just a decade before. It seemed like light years had passed.
I remember for a long time when they showed the J. Giles Band video of "Centerfold" many fans speculated that Martha was one of scantilly clad school girls in the video, and she had to inform the viewers that she was never in the video, just some other girl who had the same haircut like hers when she had her hair real short before growing it out.
Pink Floyd contest - win a Walkman - Cassettes + $300.00 in spending money! Loved the contests. I remember the John Cougar Mellencamp " Win a Little Pink House" contest.
A Doors contest with LPs and cassettes; one of the prizes for "The Wall" movie premiere trip being a Walkman(CDs would be seen in ritzy upscale boutiques not long after); and when the star was Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats.
I used to tune in just to see her, i was very close friends with a girl just like her. She was cute as all get out, playful and full of energy just like Martha.
@observer750 - The tape is from the summer of '82, and I figured this bit to be from July but, could be from August '82. 'bettyfelon1' says it is after 1982. That is incorrect.
You get older, you get wiser. Today's music is shit. I feel sorry for kids today. I graduated from high school in 1981, when AC/DCs Back in Black was the biggest album in the world. Today - Justin Beiber? Srsly?

Martha Quinn was the Queen of MTV!
She was THE reason I watched MTV, the videos were secondary.
I still love Martha! She still looks hot after all these years.
I so miss those days - graduated college '82. carefree, broke, lovin' life and knowing that I had my whole life ahead of me. We lived real life then, not the digital electronic life kids have today. I'm ready for a rewind.
The day Martha Quinn left MTV was the day Music Television died.
No argument here.
Yes it pretty much rolled over and died. Her perky behavior and fun interviews were gone.
Did John Belushi and Randy Rhodes get to see this in 1982
She on the radio station now in corpus Christi lol
I still remember watching MTV with a bunch of people in my friends basement when it first came on. It hasn't been the same since.
how could anyone dislike this. Classic Mtv with Martha Quinn and the other VJs is magical. my heart misses this...
Without Martha there was no MTV.
pre rap and grunge the good days of mtv and music in general
Martha Quinn RULES !!!
1982 was such a Great Year & The Whole 1980's was THE BEST DECADE EVER !!!!! 👍🏻🪙👍🏻

Happy Birthday, Once Again, To The Always Beautiful and Talented, Little Lady Martha Quinn!😎
Watching this brings back a lot of memories
I had a massive crush on Martha back in the day. I could not wait to get home from school every afternoon to watch her on MTV.
The days when I was only a Lad n MTV blew me away. I get home from school, run down stairs and watch it for hours. Please focus on what is important - Martha.
She was Gorgeous then and still Gorgeous now !

America’s sweetheart. That says it all!
I remember.🙋💆

Doing great til you mentioned she liked cats 👎👎👎
Great to hear she is a cat person!
I really miss the days when MTV actually showed and featured music news and videos. Now it's a bunch of teeny bopper reality show crap
MTV's a fucking joke today.... it's about as gay and diverse as you can get
15 old people agreed with you. 🙄
None for you lol
Music videos just ain't what they used to be!
Of course, you can listen to Martha and all the other surviving original MTV deejays on Sirius XM, 80s on 8!
The surviving VJs except for Martha. She left around 2015.
Even though it didn't have MTV back in '82, I had a huge crush on Martha. (still do)
Martha, you're 4 years younger than me and still lookin hot. Too bad I can't say the same for MTV. It's good to see these old reels of what MTV used to be in the beginning when it was My MTV!!!👍✌
I adore Martha! Best of MTV! When they actually played videos!
When I was 21, my Martha crush was well documented. I would go on and on about her to my friends until one of them would tell me to shut up, and then we could go one with our evening.
Tony Lombardo whoa! I immediately recognize your name from reading album covers. Are you one of the original Descendants?
No one cares you fucking moron
Martha is such a cutie and a doll!

That face.. oh, that face. Like other teens at the time, I was totally in love with her.
The Doors and Pink Floyd contests on MTV!! What a glorious age

I've got tapes recorded off MTV so old, they still had Video Killed The Radio Star in their rotation.
That's very cool. You must have been pretty hip to have a VCR at that time. They were very expensive.
Those are gems now love those posted hear.
So lucky

This video transports you through time.
Thank you, Martha Quinn. I loved you in that thing you did....
That is one sweet VCR they're giving away.
And cassettes remember. Apparently cassettes are having a comeback recently. My Sony Walkman goes for $200 on Ebay now.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 vinyl records are back in stores. They were available during Black Friday in 2020.
About 2 years before I started watching. MTV was still cool in 1986.
I see Martha Quinn in the title, I click. Sue me! The only girl I will click on faster is Phoebe Cates.
Martha Quinn, on MTV, Music Television
Robert, I never knew Martha was a Taurus. Her birthday and mine are separated by 4 years and 6 days. Whenever, I think of MTV in the beginning; I can't help but think of Martha. She's still good lookin to this day.👍✌
Back Before Music Video Started, There Was Nothing Like MTV Music Television, in Stereo
My FANTASY WIFE in the 1980's !!!!!!!

Oh my God do I remember that Heat of the Moment video being played over and over back in 82. Very weird time for pop music.
Very, very GREAT time for pop music!
she was so CUTE!! #definition
Amazing to think that when they were talking about the Doors, they were talking about an era from just a decade before. It seemed like light years had passed.
Ladies and Gentlemen, This Was MTV Music Television

I remember for a long time when they showed the J. Hanging out with Little Lady Martha Quinn
How, HOW did MTV go from this to what it has devolved into today?!? Somebody made some BADDDDD decisions.
A Doors contest with LPs and cassettes; one of the prizes for "The Wall" movie premiere trip being a Walkman(CDs would be seen in ritzy upscale boutiques not long after); and when the star was Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats.
Martha Quinn, Video Host and Trivia Expert
She was the best
I want my MTV (back).
I used to tune in just to see her, i was very close friends with a girl just like her. She was cute as all get out, playful and full of energy just like Martha.
