Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez, and Randy Johnson were all on the same team. And Dave Niehaus announced every game. That’s a remarkable amount of talent.
Don’t forget jay buhner who was a great outfielder and would always get ya 35-40 homers and 100 rbi’s. Our lineup in the mid 90s was crazy ..if we had only had more pitching aside from randy ..
On my Humble Opinion Edgar Martinez had the most beautyfull swing to see from the stance to the mechanics to the extension of the arms to the end result and it looked so effortless all of that at the same time ¡¡!!
@@Fishmorph Did you forget to include that Ortiz has 225 more hits, 507 more RBI's, and 232 more HR's? Also, Ortiz is one of the most clutch postseason performers of all time in any sport.
Hearing that Dave Niehaus call and watching Edgar Martinez hit the game winning double gives me chills every single time. Extremely glad he got into The HOF!
I am so HAPPY to learn Edgar was hired as batting coach earlier this evening......maybe the Ms can revamp the team's approach to discipline at the plate for the first time in 20 years!!!!!!
Yeah, his defensive play gets overlooked for obvious reasons, but if injuries hadn't taken him off the field so early in his career, he would've been a first ballot HOFer.
One of the greatest right-handed hitters of all time finally gets enshrined. The only thing keeping his numbers from looking even better is the fact that he didn't receive regular playing time until his late 20s. I say this as someone who despises the DH.
When the award for your position is named after you, you damn well better be in the Hall of Fame! Edgar wasn't just a good hitter, he was one of the best right-handed hitters ever! When your total body of work can be compared to names like Babe Ruth and Ted Williams, and other similar legends, there can be no doubt. And Edgar vs the three pitchers he was enshrined with: Vs Halladay: .444/.474/722 with 1 homer in 19 PA. Vs Mussina: .307/.337/.627 with 5 homers in 83 PA. Vs Rivera: .579/.652/.1.053 with 2 homers in 19 PA.
As a Yankee fan, he is the one player I don't want at the plate in a close game. I would literally prefer every other player. Yankees fans still have nightmares about him.
I want to say the clip at 1:52 was against the yankees, after i think the bottom of the 7th my dad said lets get out of here and beat traffic & i remember hearing edgar Martinez hitting a grand slam not even 10 minutes after we left on the radio in the truck.. i was so disappointed we left 😂
Mariners had a murderers row of Thier own, as well As a Prime jay Buhner..So babe Ruth seemed to mostly hit with his upper body, whereas Martinez used his lower body more.
Hank Aaron, Honus Wagner, Rogers Hornsby, Albert Pujols, Jimmie Foxx, Mike Trout, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays, and maybe Miguel Cabrera. All better.
😂 the most normalist coolest looking person on the field and was thy most dangerous. Bruh I remember waiting for a game to hurry up and end and hereeeee goes Edgar completely destroying the opposing teams lead single handed by himself in one measly at bat 😂 pahahaha!!!! They should have given him the jacket and induction before he retired 😂!!!
Not sure about this guy in the HOF. Not saying he's a roids guy but I'm suspicious of anyone who played in the mid and late 90s whose power hitting numbers suddenly went through the roof as his did.
Martinez didn't become a full-time DH until the '95 season. Prior to that he played 556 games at third base for the M's. He was moved to DH because of an injury that never healed properly. His bat was too good to not play so the M's made him the DH. He then went on redefine the DH position. So much so that former commissioner Bug Selig renamed the Outstanding Designated Hitter Award after him in 2004.

Seattle @ its peak.
Not to mention Tino Martinez and also buried in their minor league teams was a young David Ortiz
Omar Vizquel??
It's mind boggling that they couldn't win a championship with this squad
Long, long, LONG overdue!
- Yankees fan who still remembers 1995. Long live Edgar!
we do...we definitely do remember him
I knew Edgar was a great hitter but what amazed was finding out he was the first right handed hitter since Joe DiMaggio to win two batting tittles!
On my Humble Opinion Edgar Martinez had the most beautyfull swing to see from the stance to the mechanics to the extension of the arms to the end result and it looked so effortless all of that at the same time ¡¡!!
One of the greatest pure hitters the game has ever seen
The greatest DH ever goes into the hall with three pitchers he absolutely dominated, as it should be
greatest DH was Frank Thomas

Edgar Martinez is on a very upper echelon elite list of greatest hitters I've ever seen. Probably my personal favorite next to Ken Griffey Jr
With Griffey Jr, the Mariners and gorgeous left and right swings
Hell ya Edgar. Been waiting for this day for 10 years
Love Niehaus announcing. Ugggh miss those days 😢
Maybe the greatest all around discipline hitter of all time
I couldnt wait for this dude to come to bat

Almost never played the field. What a sham.
Michael Lechner I completely agree. The whole DH thing is a joke. Might as well just have 9 players that only bat and nine that only field.
Antiquated NL way of thinking......Hahaha stinky old farts(Michael and Jack)
